Happy Halloween! Trick or treating was postponed until Sunday in our town due to the storm. Kids were disappointed today.

This is what my 3 boys came home with tonight:

:halloween candy :

haha - They won't eat all of this though, don't worry =) Usually after Halloween we give them a treat every day for a bit, but after while it gets old/thrown out. And yes, me and my husband let ourselves have a treat here and there too, lol.

Happy Halloween everyone!

Do you have kids? Not trying to be rude, serious question. Do you know how ridiculously hard it would be to say "no" to all the candy when they're friends and kids they're around eat it?

I care about my kids health of course, but what DOESN't seem to "cause cancer" or other problems these days? Seriously? Unless you eat like totally, totally healthy, but honestly? When you're busy with work, kids, etc......sometimes I just don't have the time to spend finding totally ok food. I'm sure the pepsi I drink every day is bad too........but I also believe in enjoying life, and allowing my kids to do so. I grew up getting candy once in awhile, and at Halloween, am 28 now, and am very healthy.

It's def. a fun holiday when you have kids =) Not sure I'd enjoy it really without them. Before I had kids my husband (well then he was my BF), spent Halloween in a bar, and that was about it. This is MUCH more fun =)

I'm with you...on Easter and Halloween the rules don't count.

When I was a kid my mother kept all sugar away from me. She yelled at anyone who gave me any....I ended up with no cavities, but the minute I left home, I gorged on sugar..

Whatever is forbidden, makes you want it more...

I finally got it together, years later, and reached a happy medium..

Thank you! most of the time, I DO limit their sugar intake and they really don't get many sweets. Maybe a cookie here and there, and of course, being in Vermont, we love our maple syrup w/pancakes or waffles for Breakfast once in awhile =) But on holidays - rules go out the door in this house, and I don't feel the least bit sorry for it. My kids birthdays are close to the holidays too. Two have December birthdays (the 10th and the 26th) and another Jan. 25th.....so from Thanksgiving until then it's like one big party here, haha, and during that time I am more relaxed. I think you have to be sometimes - your kids will remember it, and not because of the candy/treats - they'll remember the memories.

Interesting story about Halloween,

I had a HUGE bowl of candy consisting of chocolate covered eyeballs filled with caramel, malted milk Whoppers, Butterfingers, Jr Mints, and Black Forest Fruit snacks.

I gave the kids a choice of what they wanted and 90% opted for Fruit Snacks!!!! Very interesting that they went for the healthy choice.

Also, when they walked up and said "Trick-or-Treat" I told them...this is not the government and I don't give free stuff away here.

I said, If you want candy from me..you have to work for it. And this is the way it's going to work. I'm going to ask you some Texas State trivia. The more questions you get correct, the more candy you can earn.

I kept it simple...
What is the Texas State flower?
What is the Texas State Bird?
What is the Texas State Capital?
Where is the Alamo located?

For the older kids I added...Who was the first president of the Republic of Texas?

If they couldn't get any questions correct...I asked them to sing the chorus to the song..."Deep In the Heart of Texas"

Believe it or not...none of the kids were mad and all of them enjoyed the challenge. No one left empty handed and they learned a small lesson.... You need to work for what you get!!!

Happy Halloween

This is quite a lot for MY kids. We only kept to our own town (which is small) - sure I could go elsewhere like some people I know do, but why? My kids are happy with this. Plus, even though my older two do really well, my 22 month old can only take so much of being out and about like that. When my oldest is 12, and the other two are 9 and 5? Then yes, I'd imagine this pile would be much bigger

Your boys are adorable. I remember those ages very well and it made Halloween so much fun. I have all daughters who had no wish to go out trick or treating this year.

I would have loved to have gone though, but I think it would be odd to my neighbors to see a 39 year old woman trick or treating by herself, haha ;)

Aww, thanks. I def. am enjoying them, and I know time goes by SO fast - they've already grown so much, and so quickly. It's especially bittersweet watching the youngest do stuff - as he's our last =)

I always love the kids coming to the house trick or treating. They are so happy and having fun, laughter and young voices calling "trick or treat" could be heard down the street. I just love it!

It was about 4 degrees Celsius.. cloudy but not raining.. the kids came in smaller numbers.. 10 years ago we got about 145 kids, then it dropped to 120 for a few years, last year we had 80 and this year we only got about 60 kids.
Guess many of the trick or treaters from years ago, have out grown the door to door run on Halloween.

Another cyclical thing in our lives.

I sure hope more young children move into the area so the number of trick or treaters don't go much lower.

It was nice here. last few year - cold, everyone wearing their heavy coats over the costumes. But this year - no rain, temps in the mid 40s or so. Could actually see the kids' costumes, not just coats, haha. Very very good year.

It is all deceptions, halloween is actually representing the 3 days of darkness which cometh at end world, people celeberating it allow for entitys access to their lifes during that time. The candys are not good for people either full of poisons that effect both mind, body and spirit. But that isnt the reason why you should avoid hallows eve. The reason is because by celebrating it you are staining your souls with the mark of Mammon, no true christian will celebrate the devils day of wrath, you do not understand their will be a real day of horror at end of the world known as the 3 days of darkness it begins on a 31st on a hallows eve.

The Devil is a master at deception he makes sin fun he makes people enjoy the very thing which condemned them, people must let go of the worlds ways bablyon is about to fall. This world isnt what you think it is learn the way out before time runs out.
