I have some really good MP3s that I'd love to have in wirting, but my typing skills prohibit such a thing.

Not a chance. How could software discern one instrument from another, or pick notes out of a chord, or notes that transcend octaves?

Only a supercomputer could do such a thing.

My MP3's are obviously not music files. Why would anyone want to transscribe music notes? What could you possibly hope to achieve by that?

No these files are all speaking. No music in them of any type. But man are they good stuff I'd love to be able to put in print.

Are you talking about voice files or music files?

get a dragon dictation type program and speak the words as they are 'sung', if it is already in a normal voice the software might be able to understand it without you.

If you need the music buy the sheets.

You could try converting the mp3 to a midi file, then use music notation software to open it up. I've used Noteworthy Composer in the past with limited abilities. I believe you can print but you can't save unless you buy it. The only problem is that the sheet music will most definitly not look like the original score. If you're good at reading music, it probably doesn't matter.

Re: Is there a program that can transscribe an MP3?
Well, excuse my smartass reply, but I did just finish saying they are entirely speaking so I'd guess voice. Also since I did state there is not so much as a single note in them that they are probably not music.

You people are reading aren't you?

So did that work with the dictation software?

I don't see any way to connect my MP3 players to Dragon Dictate. Using Version 7.

Hey Douchebag OP!

Why don't you fucking learn how to pose the proper question before you go off on people who try to answer you back and offer up advice?

You didn't specify that they were speaking MP3's, as most people (95% of the populous) think of music to be synonymous with that file format. For that matter, you made it sound like you had some really good music that you wanted to extract the text from only.

Like others have said, go find a dictation software that detects speech and play it through there.

if the software can access the line-in jack you can plug your player into it, or put the microphone in front of a speaker (won't be as clear as the first method.

Douchebag? You freak!

You don't read either do you?

Allow me to REPOST where I very clearly explained what I meant.

"My MP3's are obviously not music files. Why would anyone want to transscribe music notes? What could you possibly hope to achieve by that?

No these files are all speaking. No music in them of any type. But man are they good stuff I'd love to be able to put in print."

I'd say that pretty much makes it clear even to a jackass that talks too much like you. Now notice these lines.

""My MP3's are obviously not music files."
""My MP3's are obviously not music files."
"My MP3's are obviously not music files."

"No these files are all speaking. No music in them of any type."
"No these files are all speaking. No music in them of any type."
"No these files are all speaking. No music in them of any type."

Is it clear enough YET?

Re: Is there a program that can transscribe an MP3?
Their reply is thus.

Unfortunately, Dragon will not transcribe MP3 files at all. In fact, it will not even know they are there. Sorry to be the bearer of this news...

Take care,
Dragon Sales

Now, the idea of hooking a micophone up to the input may actually work. It'll be a while before I can try that since I can't find my software to install it again.

Oh well. Perhaps I can get a transscript form where I got the files.

Thanks all who got involved in this thread.

Oh, maybe I should design some software to do just this thing. I'd bet it would be worht a few bucks to whomever did design it.

Going by your level of knowledge of computers I doubt you'd know where to start in software design and development.

There are several ways you can "connect" mp3 software to speech recognition softwre runing on the same PC. Look for audio tools on download sites like tucows or zdnet which act as "virtual connectors". They'll allow the output from the mp3 player to be channeled to the input of the speech recognition program as if it was coming if via the mic connector.

I'm a transcriptionist with the capability of transcribing your files for you. I do, however, charge $75 per audio hour. But they'd get done.

Re: Is there a program that can transscribe an MP3?
yes use voice recognition software and loopback the output into the microphone in hardare or do it in software.

then use the voice recognition software to 'transcribe'

wont be 100% accurate and mostly depends on the clairty and quality of voice and even the language. but im sure it will do just fine if you go through and correct it afterwards.
