gold is in a bubble, its value is 99% from its use as a currency between national treasuries or major banks.
Once the crisis gets unmanageable, the major banks and national treasuries will be subsumed or "underwritten" by the Fed. When that happens, there will only be one bank, and no need for gold as an intra-bank currency. Boom. The big boys will have already sold epic amounts of $1500+/oz gold to individuals, will pull the plug on the value and buy it all back at industrial value ($150/oz?).
Buy land, not gold. Land right now (well, non-ag land) is at its lowest price (adjusted $) since just after WWII. That will not be the case after the intl banks merge. Even non-ag land will grow food...
