Gonna be a rough ride, methinks. Tremendous amount of cargo trucks heading towards 278 (gawanus expressway) right now. Bumper to bumper...first time i've seen trucks since the storm. Someone must have been able to unload. Also lots of private cars now leaving south side of Brooklyn...no surprise there.... Yo Brooklyn! Thats great news about the trucks. I spoke with a friend who used to be a shipping broker and most of the carbo that goes over to LI and your area lands at Bayonne. From what I have seen there were 3 Container ships that landed there. It must be pretty amazing to watch the supply in person like that after figuring out what we have. If there happen to be Italian Subs, LTO, SPO w/extra oil and vinegar, send me one!! I have been eating bagels ever since you brought them up but Thomas's Bagels just don't cut it. Hope the storm isn't too bad on you. |

Right now we have two more Container Ships coming in. One of them, BUSAN EXPRESS is a Panamax. 8721 MAX TEUs. Only two more container ships sitting out in the staging area right now. One Oil Tanker Docked in NJ with a maximium of 10,000,000 gallons of goo, so it is starting to trickle in a little more. Sadly, Trains are still Cut Off though. [link to shipcsx.com] [link to www.nscorp.com] From Waterlily's found article: "The shipping lanes have mostly reopened, except for a few areas around Arthur Kill south of the Goethals Bridge, and Bay Ridge and Red Hook channels, said Justin Ward, spokesman for the Army Corps of Engineers." As of Saturday, container vessels weren't yet allowed to wait for the terminals to reopen. "If you don't have an approved berth, you can't come in and sit for a week and wait for something to open," Ward says. |

Here is what I learned: Stores that prepared (moved stuff to higher shelves etc.,.) didn't lose much inventory, and re-opened relatively quickly. One strip mall, four stores: Big food store opened about five days ago (they had a massive cleanup), small pizza place and drugstore opened last week. (They moved their stuff out of the way, saved most of their inventory). Discount store; didn't prepare and didn't start cleanup immediately. They are still closed, still cleaning and now have to deal with mold issues, so the EPA is involved in their cleanup. Some did, many didn't. "When tyrants tremble in their fear, and hear their death knell ringing, When friends rejoice both far and near, how can I keep from singing" page7 |
