| Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 17033550 11/05/2012 10:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Container ships are starting to funnel into NY Harbor. Quoting: AnonymousFacts25 9 in total. One is docked over night. Still no movement from the Oil Tankers though. But Oil tankers are moving into Philly slowly as |||||||| mentioned late last night. 13 total Cargo Ships will have landed = Roughly 42,500 TEUs should be unloaded assuming full ships. Trains are still cutoff: [link to shipcsx.com] [link to www.nscorp.com] So with that in mind the total amount of trucks needed to move the newly landed supply would be: 42,500/5100 = 8.3 x 10,200 trucks per 5100TEU = 84,660 Trucks to move this supply. Well...I just don't see it happening with the gas shortage. The slow trickle will start as least. The mad dash is on to unload before the Nor'easter hits Your point is essentially that tankers can't do anything without trucks to offload. And that point is clear, thanks for your work OP, keep this thread bouncing. that is correct and more importantly that the trains are so important because of the amount of supply they can move. 84,000 trucks of the correct model will be very difficult to accomplish, if not impossible to keep things at normal flow. Thanks for the moral boost and I will certainly keep this going. I am actually enjoying this because it will help people and we are learning a whole lot about how things work too. I will say that it sounds like crews are working their asses off so certainly there is no fault anywhere. A massive task and I hope the Nor'Easter doesn't set them back. |

"That holds especially for truckers working in the northern part of the state, where most of the distribution terminals, including those in Carteret, Perth Amboy and Linden, which supply the bulk of the gas in North Jersey, lost power with the start of the storm, and only are few are back in business, he said." "The gas haulers — which carry 8,500 gallons of fuel – were being shunted to terminals near the Delaware River, making the gas delivery chain more sluggish, Risalvato said. That meant about a three-hour round trip for those haulers, plus perhaps a two-hour wait just to load their tanks." [link to www.nj.com] |

I made it down to the harbor (by Hess Containers) actually made it on the grounds then got run off by security. Anyway NO activity at all...except for security walking around. And the smell of diesel/gas was gone. Appears some Marines landed in Staten Island yesterday..must've been the chinook helicopters I saw. AND Heard that navy has arrived via boats in some parts of southern Queens to help residents stuck there. That means that marine traffic website is not picking up military vessels. Only gov vessels showing up on marine traffic DOT COM is coast guard boats. Otherwise marine traffic website is accurate from what I can see. They really need to evac those people especially children and elderly into shelters...can't see how they will survive the coming nor'easter. |

No need to get arrested over all of this but glad we can confirm Marine Traffic. If you look out south of the Rockaways there is a Gray GOV Vessel. I posted a early yesterday that given the length of the ship from Marine Time it may be a Carrier and I do believe it is. Not sure how the tracking of Mil vessels goes but I would doubt that they are up to date intentionally. Just a guess though. Great job. It does look like www.nj.com is really on top of things at the moment but things are definitely lagging in NYC/Long Island. Keep us posted with what you see and Grocery stores, etc. If miltary planes start coming in we will get you pictures of those too so you are informed. |

It is kind of surprising that it took Bloomberg until yesterday to address this issue even just in talk. From hour 1 you could figure that was going to be an issue. Hopefully those Marines and Navy boats have makeshift shelters to popup as time is certainly running out with this storm coming in. I have faith in the military though. Best in the world |

We have 16 Container ships that have docked and are unloading. 1, The Haydar was at Docks before the storm Only appears to be 3 more Container ship in range at the moment. Rough estimate of TEUs(Cargo) being delivered. 63,852 TEUs assuming all ships are full. That would roughly be 127,704 trucks to move that supply Railroads are still cutoff No other Docks in the area appear to be active. No Oil Tankers have moved all morning. There have been two Tugs moving between the three Tankers past the Varrazano all morning but that's it. For Oil Tankers 17 Total waiting. One more in range and none diverted There are three Big bastards out there too at over 100,000t which in theory are above 25m gallons each. (Panamax Class) And as I write this Queen Express(Tanker) is making a move. Again all estimates |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27050477 This means that any progress made, will have to be halted as the ships cannot stay moored? Yes I believe so. I wasn't able to monitor the situation pre storm but under Condition "Zulu" Gale Force winds are within 12 hours and all vessels should prepare for full port closure. Right now we are in Post Storm Condition "Yankee" but that is kind of morphing into pre storm Yankee. They really moved all of the container ships into the docks today quickly so I would think they can unload and head back out to sea. There doesn't seem to be more coming in either. The tankers have not moved at all and only two in the Harbor now. I would expect them to wait until the last minute because supplies are so short right now. |

When supplies finally arrived in Lakehurst on Tuesday, they were modest, and apparently, not immediately made available for local distribution. Indeed, the first bottled water that arrived in many of the communities of New Jersey's eastern shore didn't arrive until Thursday, and those supplies didn't come from the FEMA distribution center. Instead, they were half a million units of bottled water donated by Nestle's America on their own account without any apparent prior planning by FEMA and stored in the local Somerset, New Jersey warehouse prior to local distribution." | Anonymous Coward User ID: 21746667 11/05/2012 05:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Okay, back from my latest excursion around Brooklyn. I started paying close attention to NY harbor traffic on the Saturday before the storm arrived (9 days ago) when I noticed boats, yachts, cruise ships, you name it…leaving NYC. Never seen anything like that. By Sunday night it was “bumper to bumper”…everybody was high-tailing it out to sea. So I’m figuring they’ll prolly start doing that again by Tuesday. Noticed something strange…hardly any food trucks out there making deliveries. Only saw maybe a dozen during a three hour period. But this is the odd part…all of them except for one were from same area of Brooklyn. The food trucks all have their home address painted on them and they were all from either the same zip code that they were delivering in or from neighboring zip codes. So that indicates that it’s still only local food deliveries that are supplying the stores. And that they’re still not letting food trucks into the City. The only food truck that was NOT local was a huge diary truck full of milk only that came from Perth Amboy, NJ. I watched it for awhile and it seemed to be stopping at the small bodegas and grocery stores in the area. Overall inventory in the more affluent areas was much better then in the less affluent areas. Affluent areas had much more stock and variety on the shelves. Some of the grocery stores and bodegas in the less affluent (working poor) neighborhoods were closed cause their shelves were bare. Oh yes, and the Mayor is telling everyone to “stock-up” for the next storm…must be nice to be a multi-billionaire. |
