Yeah that is really a drop in the bucket.

The figures that I have seen so far for Oil/Gas Supply are:

1. Prior to the storm, there was enough supply for 23 days (at normal usage) So this should last for a while once the electricity is back on.

2. Main pipeline In from the Gulf is down...that's 15% of supply to the area

3.. 2 Refineries are down. Hess and Phillips 66...Thats 23% of production for the region

4. Port of NY is closed. That's 20% of the supply for the area but likely more towards NYC and Long Island

I think the larger concern is again the damage at the ports and facilities as this will account for any distruptions AFTER the Power comes back on, which is still a week out or more.

I am still looking for damage reports at the Ports and may have some by tonight.

One NuStar Energy executive estimated the marine terminals at his site could take four to six weeks to repair.



This is an example of what is ahead. See, New Orleans was impoverished with lots of placated welfare types. New England is still a producing region of the USA.

U.S. pipeline and storage terminal company NuStar Energy said its Paulsboro, New Jersey, terminal should be back in operation Tuesday evening.

It also said initial assessment of damage from the storm Sandy showed significant high-water damage to its marine and storage terminal at Linden, New Jersey, which was without power. Timing for a return to operation is pending, the company said.

FRom their own website it sounds like the Paulsboro facility is fairly small though. The one in Linden is likely the bigger one and if theirs is damaged and is the 4-6 week repair that you mentioned than the others in the area are not likely in good shape.

So 4.5m barrels off line for 4-6 weeks then?

IMTT's tank terminal in Bayonne, N.J., suffered major damage when Hurricane Sandy hit the area on Monday, a person doing business with the facility said Wednesday.

The 600 acre complex, which receives, stores and distributes refined petroleum products and commodity and specialty chemicals, is without power and its six deep-water tanker berths sustained structural damage.

"There's extensive flooding and debris everywhere," the person said.

The facility, which has access to Buckeye, Colonial and Harbor Pipeline systems, contains 620 tanks with 16 million barrels total capacity. There are truck and railcar loading and unloading facilities and 12 barge berths at the confluence of the Kill van Kull and Upper New York Harbor, 10 miles south of Manhattan.

There is no estimate for restart.

Hamilton NJ. Powers back on, we have cable and just filled my car up with gas. People at my work waited over 3hours in lines to get gas. You need to take back roads to small town gas stations. Only took me 15mins at a little mom and pop spot. Shelves are stocked as well.

Well those think tanks consist of morans, moonbats, commies and plain retards, when did you ever see those groups come up with something useful?

Re Gas stations without power;

You can't tell me the national guard does not have or cannot obtain generators. It is not rocket science to tap into a breaker panel with a power source.

In other words I see no excuse for more gas stations not being operational.

Its a bit like Triage...Priorities are set. Right now from what it sounds like the Power companies main priorities are getting the power back to the Ports and vital economic areas and then to the outlaying areas.

Whatever the reason, that is what they are doing.

I understand that. But generators at individual gas stations would be a stop gap measure. I will not believe they can't bring in generators from neighboring states.

Hell. a 10K gennie would run at least 10 pumps.

When one station has been pumped dry, move the gennie to the next station. Some people need fuel for generators to heat their homes. Some will die from exposure because of poor logistics

Gas demand is really insane. People flocking from NYC, NJ and Long Island to NJ/PA border in Easton PA to get gas for generators at one of the few operational gas stations in Easton area (power still out in much of Lehigh Valley).

Noticed this interesting tidbit in the Forbes Port story (bold added):

" In many instances loaded tankers carrying the oil that is so critical to our national security, pass in and out of the harbor with only 2 feet of clearance between the hull of the tankers and the bedrock at the bottom of the harbor. Ship captains rely on the skill and judgment of harbor pilots to ensure the safe navigation of the vessel so that the cargo can be safely transferred to shore side facilities." With all the junk--cars, trees, parts of houses etc-- that swept into the harbor with the storm surge and flooding, that 2 feet of clearance may be gone in some places.

If one of those tankers rips open its underbelly, there will be an oil spill.

Yeah that is a great point and I believe that the Port Authority is thoroughly checking all of this and that is why the whole Harbor area is closed to start with.

Let's hope for the best on this. In one of the articles above they said that there is a Refinery leaking down in Delaware and they have the booms out collecting the oil already.

- Logistical problems caused by power failures and navigational hazards from storm Sandy continued to roil New York Harbor on Thursday, threatening widespread delays in fuel deliveries off the New York Mercantile Exchange's futures contracts.

With many New York and New Jersey gasoline stations running dry or without power, oil companies are scrambling to resupply their networks but cannot gain access to millions of barrels of fuel trapped in the region's terminals. A diesel fuel spill after the storm added to the woes, keeping a key waterway shut.

Most, if not all, of the terminals approved by the NYMEX futures exchange as delivery points for its gasoline and heating oil contracts were closed, raising the possibility that traders would be unable to fulfill contractual deliveries immediately under the November futures contract, which expired on Wednesday.

Most of the region's refineries continued to restore operations, with oil markets focused on the recovery of Phillips 66's 238,000-bpd Bayway plant in Linden, New Jersey. The refinery could resume operations next week at the earliest as it deals with electrical equipment damaged by flooding and boosts power supplies.

Navigational hazards forced the closure of three channels in the lower part of the harbor, including the heavily used Arthur Kill, a tank farm-lined waterway separating New York's Staten Island and New Jersey, the U.S. Department of Energy said.

So as discussed earlier, the waterway to that Linden Refinery and many others is blocked by a diesel fuel spill, debris and possible canal depth change...

That means that even though the terminals may be open or reopen, new supply cannot get into the Docks.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration said on Thursday that only four terminals in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut were open. None was in the harbor, three were in Connecticut and one was in Paulsboro, New Jersey.

So the Paulsboro Terminal is only 90,800 barrels of capacity as stated in one of my earlier posts. The other 3 opened terminals are in Connecticut.

NYC and North Jersey Oil supply is virtually shut down past whatever supply exists in the storage tanks which was 23 days at normal usage prior to the storm hitting. Surely this has been slightly depleted at this point.

Coloniel Pipeline Update

Colonial Pipeline, operator of a major artery that moves fuel from refineries on the U.S. Gulf Coast to the northeastern United States, said it hoped to resume limited operations on Friday but that deliveries into the New York Harbor area would be complicated by storm damage.

In what way is fema responsible for the power being down and what do you think they could do about it anyways. Nothing. The power company's have to fix it. Gas stations could have installed their own generators. Thats right. Individual gas stations can install generators to pump fuel. Hello.

I guess the rest of your country needs fuel as well I would think. You guys don't get it do you. The east coast is the HUB for the rest of the country, Guess maybe they would worry about the ports and refineries first before the homes. People were told to prepare. What part of that was not understood. I heard everybody on this site just about go on and on about what a big deal was being made about nothing. Ya right. Turned out to be everything. Maybe everybody will listen next time. Ya Think...? Preppers not so crazy afterall.
