Supply Chain Disruptions from Sandy-PLEASE REPORT- NY, NJ, CT, PA,

There is extreme Normalcy Bias going on there right now but it is starting to unravel quickly. NYC is just not used to things like this and always expect things to be done yesterday. Its just the nature of the area.

The Oil comes from a variety of different places so it depends on the area. I believe that the refineries,etc. that I am looking at really just pertain to NJ, NYC/NY State, CT but maybe a little bit of Eastern,PA.

I'm in Brooklyn, overlooking the NY Harbor. Have a birds-eye view of everything from my balcony. We were very lucky, minimal damage, some trees knocked over on cars was all.

Stopped by a major grocery store yesterday...it was at least 40% out of inventory and they were only taking cash. They were completely sold out of canned foods, milk, bread items, chip aisle was bare. Asked the store manager (who is a good friend of mine) if he could pull some items for me from the back. He said "that's it, we don't have any more stock...we don't know when we're getting the next delivery truck. They're not letting any food trucks thru NJ or CT, all the food trucks are being turned back. The government has deemed food trucks to be secondary. They're only letting in utilities trucks and medical personnel." I asked him if he had any idea when they would start letting food trucks thru and he said no. Then he got tears in his eyes and walked away.

I'm going back to the store this afternoon to see if food truck deliveries have resumed. And do general recon in the area.

This happened after Katrina too. Trucks with ice and water stalled for 2-3 days because they could not get in.

The logistics are overwhelming, but hopefully someone, somewhere is working on getting trucks into working terminals, unloaded, and back out again.

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, from what I am reading I do not think it is going to get better for quite some time.

If the trains cannot come in from the west than the trucks cant be loaded. Stock up on what you can as at minimum you should see higher prices shortly.

Hang in there and be smart. Keep posting here too expecially if you have info on the condition of the docks, ships docking up or not, etc.

The destruction wrought by wind and water should be old hat to Riverside’s Ted Honcharik, whose nonprofit Fuel Relief Fund is sending post-Sandy aid to New York and New Jersey.

For every recent major disaster, Honcharik’s charity has been there, providing some type of fuel when gas stations are closed, pipelines are disrupted, or supplies of heating oil run low. They sent gasoline to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, diesel to power generators after Haiti’s 2010 earthquake, and kerosene for home heating after last year’s earthquake and tsunami in Japan...

When the Power goes on, the situation will actually get worse because of the pent up demand and the lack of delivery to the Ports.

This is a setup, the clock is ticking you had better get your family out ASAP as soon there will be no escape at any price. Im in NEPA and we have NO DISRUPTIONS here that I can see, no gas lines and stores are fully stocked. Im seeing full truck stops, I mean overflowing truckstops so there is truth to them not being able to get into the cities. Ive been shuttling gas cans to co workers in westchester for their backup power (over 200 miles round trip) soon I will be making food runs, I have a very small passenger car, others here have trucks. Its time to step up people and make it happen, our brothers and sisters need help.

I am thinking no differently.... perception may be better, as in the race would have been cancelled and the generators forcefully repurposed.

But there is not much you can do about the overall situation execpt work your way through the issues.

I guess it would help to have a population that can take care of itself and that would prepare for these things. Then government could focus on fixing infrastructure instead of feeding a bunch of.... people.

Ok Yes I have been hearing that people are coming up to you in Northeast PA to get gas and food. As well as out to Easton, PA.

Most of the new gas inventory that is coming into NJ seems to be coming from PA at the moment as well.

I feel for those poor people in NY, NJ.. but its a technology island and if the music stops its going to be hell on earth, that's why I moved 4 months ago. You know everybody who was paying attention should have got the message.. That cop on the radio was warning of an East Coast event in July. I told everybody I knew, even now Im telling friends to head west and nobody seems to take it seriously.. God be with them, and with us in NEPA when they make it to here on foot looking to survive.

I heard on CNBC earlier that potentially one Dock in Brooklyn is open at an Oil Depot, but the whole Depot will be at 40% capacity.

Also, the first few barges are for Boston, CT and NY.

same article...Some relief but as mentioned before, how much is actually going to Boston, etc. Could have been adjusted but futures contracts would have had to adjust as well which might complicate things.

Last Fall I sold our place up in Canada and completed the move from CT NY down to Texas

I told everyone I knew that I had a strong feeling there would be a "weather event" of some kind within a year

it was just a hunch, but I have been rewarded for acting on my hunches in the past

I regret what is happening right now in the tri-state region. No one deserves what is happening up there

However, the congestion and cost of living in that area makes it extremely high risk, imho. Even on a normal/non disaster day it could take 1 hr to travel half a mile in NYC, one could sit stuck in traffic for hours due to one lane lost to construction

I grew up on Long Island, and when we were kids teachers would tell us that if there were ever an attack on NYC, LI's would be in trouble. Traffic would lock down all exits to the mainland.

Only thing in the NY harbor in the past 45 minutes is a couple of Coast Guard boats, the Staten Island ferry went by once and what might have been a private yacht (it's windows were blackened) docked. Oh yeah, one small barge.
Boat traffic is nonexistent in the harbor.

On Wednesday and Thursday traffic was epic gridlock everywhere. Today traffic looked about the same as it does early Sunday morning. Everyone seems to have gotten the memo: no gas.

Car traffic leaving lower Manhattan on Brooklyn Bridge seems to be picking up for the first time since Monday.

Sadly it is an election next week and who knows what they will try to do.

We will see how it plays out as I still do not believe that there are Docks to tie up to though.

CNBC on just a bit ago and said there are a few Terminals opening up but from what you are saying, that isn't equating to ships Docking yet.

Sun just set in NYC and the temperature is dropping. It’s gotten COLD and windy outside. Rain has started to fall. Real feel temp is now 42 degrees, going down to 33 degrees tonight. All those poor, poor people stuck without any power or heat. They are in for a long, icy cold, wet night of complete misery. That’s 400,000 people in lower Manhattan alone in the dark without factoring in Long Island, Staten Island, New Jersey, etc. So very sad.

Now I know why there is so much car traffic high-tailing it from Manhattan and Long Island.

Yes it sounds like tonight is not going to be a good night for people there and certainly it will raise the anziety levels for everyone there.

I was just out and about and took a brake from researching and I think that there are conflicting stories on what has been delivered to port.

One one hand, One terminal in Brooklyn is saying they are at 40% capacity in regards to what they can have delivered.

1. The Port of NY in total does about 900,000 barrels a day under normal circumstances.
2. It was claimed on CNBC by way of the NYC Governement that some how 2,000,000 barrels were delivered to port this morning.

My brain is hurting from all of the research but even with 1/10th of a brain, that just doesn't add up.

One terminal reopens at 40% capacity and only a few small barges are allowed into Port, magically carrying 2,000,000 barrels and full delivery. Which by the way this delivery was done before the order was given to allow these small barges into Port.

Run with that one folks.
