We continue to work around the clock with all of our port partners to get all of our maritime facilities open quickly to ensure that our port — which enables the flow of goods to approximately 20 percent of the U.S. population in fewer than eight hours — is back in business and fully operational." Quoting: AnonymousFacts25 Interesting... a US Gov Vessel is heading somewhere towards Breezy Point/Rockaways. 284M long...about 931ft long so no small ship. Might be an Aircraft Carrier comparing the length to the USS Lincoln, H.W. Bush and Truman. [link to www.dimensionsinfo.com] No other activity in NY Harbor. This US GOV Vessel has now Anchored about 5 nautical Miles off the coast of the Rockaways. Will keep searching the news to see if it is an Aircraft Carrier. |

Reuuuters India has the article but can't put the link in here I guess. Cliff Notes: 1. 80 Vessles still sitting off Port 2. No estimates of being reopened 3. The largest Pipeline in the area is apparently still closed as well. 4. Apparently the debris in the harbor is causing some ships props to fail, with many ships floating in disrepair 5. New York Harbor stores 75 million barrels of oil 6. Recieves 900,000 barrels per day as of August 2012 7. Ships are only allowed into the harbor area with permission from the Port Captain's approval...called "Condition Yankee" 8. One barge is beached on Staten Island youwould think therewould be lots and lots of pictures of all this, but . . . NONE ! ?- preposterous. |

Though this may be true what is concerning is that starting from the inlet, which starts at the Verrazano Bridge, on up both sides of the Hudson River and both sides of the East River are mostly all docks. The shores of Brooklyn, West Shores of Staten Island...Just have a look at Google Maps. Then you have large canals that weave around the marshes on the Jersey side which lead into Port Elizabeth and slightly further inland. Anyone who has landed at Newark Airport, sees this total dump, especially landing from the South. This dump that everyone laughs at moves an insane amount of goods on a daily basis that effects the whole country. There are container mountains at Port Elizabeth that are stacked 30-40 containers high or more almost like Pyramids. I did see a picture of Liberty State Park Train Terminal, which was the starting point of millions of Immigrants after Ellis Island...totally destroyed. If you look on a map of that surrounding area, to the south, west and north you will get the magnitude of the situation. Anyhow, will keep searching for reports of damage and delays. get a death count while youare atit . . . if they let you |

"Specifically, the Executive Order permits wholesale or retail dealers of gasoline to broaden their supply network, so long as appropriate written notice is provided at stations as to the source of the fuel, if it is not from their previously approved source. For 10 days, these restrictions will be lifted." [link to www.4-traders.com] Well it looks like Christie is taking decisive action on the gas situation still. The storm surge caused nearly four feet of water throughout the port. Round the clock cleanup efforts have repaired damaged roadways, hundreds of displaced shipping containers, fixed rail lines, damaged electrical systems and other port cargo." "In 2011, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey handled 5.5 million TEU’s (20-foot equivalent units), a record and nearly 4 percent more than 2010’s volumes. The port’s on-dock rail system – known as ExpressRail – also set a new record in 2011, handling 422,144 containers, or 12 percent more than in 2010. In 2011, the Port's major import commodities included furniture, beverages and apparel. The dollar value of all cargo that moved through the port exceeded $185 billion." [link to www.panynj.gov] Sounds like they are doing a great job in the New Jersey side of things. Be interesting to see how this next storm effects things. Terrible if they have to do it all over again. |

Trains are still cutoff: [link to shipcsx.com] [link to www.nscorp.com] So with that in mind the total amount of trucks needed to move the newly landed supply would be: 42,500/5100 = 8.3 x 10,200 trucks per 5100TEU = 84,660 Trucks to move this supply. Well...I just don't see it happening with the gas shortage. The slow trickle will start as least. The mad dash is on to unload before the Nor'easter hits |

Thanks for the moral boost and I will certainly keep this going. I am actually enjoying this because it will help people and we are learning a whole lot about how things work too.
