Re: Supply Chain Disruptions from Sandy-PLEASE REPORT- NY, NJ, CT, PA,
From the US Energy Information Administration

"Of the stations sampled, 76% (up from 73% yesterday) had gasoline available for sale. None reported they were not selling gasoline because they had no power."

[link to www.eia.gov]

So NYC as a whole is down 24% at the moment. They are giving daily updates as we can see and a great chart.

A good Summation of Gas

“This is like crack. Liquid crack,” said Randy Rosen, 40, of Coney Island, an elevator company driver who had been waiting at the BP station on 10th Ave. and W. 36th St. for two hours Monday. “They’re saying two more hours for the truck to arrive.”

Thanks to the EIA! You can definitely see the Pain on LI.

They have a checkbox for Post Sandy Damage and it is new Satelite Images. Finally some images of the Docks. Many actually do not seem to be bad, at least from above.

The ones that do look bad are Linden and Perth Amboy, NJ. There is no telling whether the Tanker Docks, which are the really thin curved ones are damaged though. Salt water corroding the hookups, etc.

Thanks for the Philly update. That Paulsboro facility can only store 90,800 barrels so it will be overloaded quick unless they are getting trucks in and out of there.

It seems to be about 1 or 2 Tankers a day docking in Philly. Does that seem right?

ISOLA BIANCA Has Docked and is unloading.

At best is carrying 14,910,000 gallons of GOO.

This is the first large tanker to dock since Pre Sandy.

For those who were hoping. The election has NOT changed the Train status.

Trains still CUT OFF

This is now day 11 with no train deliveries or pickups at NY Harbor and the Nor'Easter is now on top of the area Snow is falling in New Jersey

NY HARBOR UPDATE:

7 Container Ships have Docked overnight with 2 Docking at New York COntainer Terminal on Staten Island, which is freshly opened.

Total MAX TEUs overnight: 24,735

Total TEUs AT BEST since reopen: 140,811

That is still short of what the average daily sum would be for the 10 days since the port closed. Also assuming that all ships were full and unloaded all cargo which is not likely. We were short about 140,000 TEUs when the first docks reopened.

No new Oil tankers have Docked at the moment unless they have disappeared from the Map.

[link to www.poten.com]
There is a good summary for the situation on 2 november for the oil supply in the whole area. The gasoline stocks are down to 5year minimum and are less than 50 MB (miliion barels?) This was enough for 16.5 days starting from 2 november.

Does somebody knows in which way the supply in middle long term will be affected? I read several articles mentioning problems for super Friday and the holiday season.

That is an excellent find. Thank you so much. It does verify what we have been covering here for a week now.

In an earlier post from yesterday I guessed that incoming supply at this point is in theory down about 40% for the area. My personal opinion is that it will be wavy, so some days will be bad and the next day pretty good at the pumps. But there will be a delay becaus of the existing supply. Maybe 1 or 2 week delay and then supply will start to get thin, prices rise, long lines etc.

I don't know how much of an area will be affected either.

Long term it will recover but I think we are looking well through Thanksgiving of abnormal supply, lines and rationing. Especially with this new storm coming in with the potential to knock out power again in many areas including the ports.

I just hope we do not see this with Food as the trains are down still and docks are not fully operational throughout the Port of NY/NJ.

Certainly anyone can give their opinions and observatiosn here.

Philly looks like it will get the most snow of the Two Ports. Somewhere between 3"-8"

That is where most all of the Oil from Tankers is being unloaded.

Will see if the power goes out down there.

Yo OP!

Just started raining/sleeting in Brooklyn. Gonna be a rough ride, methinks.

Tremendous amount of cargo trucks heading towards 278 (gawanus expressway) right now. Bumper to bumper...first time i've seen trucks since the storm. Someone must have been able to unload.

Also lots of private cars now leaving south side of Brooklyn...no surprise there....

Shipping losses from Superstorm Sandy at $1B, says consultant

Cargo Business Newswire
Monday, November 5, 2012
Top Story

Superstorm Sandy cost an estimated $1 billion in damages to the Northeast cargo industry, said an industry consultant on Saturday.

"It looks like we're losing close to $80 million a day on that," said Charles Clowdis, managing director for transportation and consulting services at IHS Global Insight. "Through yesterday, we have probably lost close to $1 billion on cargo delays."

Railroads and trucking companies are beginning to service the region again. The container terminals at the Port of New York and New Jersey remained closed through Saturday, with vessels rerouting to other ports.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said on Monday that the Port Elizabeth Terminal had opened with the arrival of vessels at the Maher and APM terminals. The Port Authority also said that the Port Newark Container Terminal and the Global Terminal in Jersey City, NJ, would open for business on Nov. 5 with ship arrivals expected at both facilities by that night...

Jones Act waiver gets fuel to Northeast, gas and heating oil prices drop

Cargo Business Newswire
Monday, November 5, 2012

After the U.S. waived shipping requirements to get much needed fuel into the Northeast, prices for gasoline and heating oil fell.

The Department of Homeland Security waived the Jones Act so that more vessels could carry fuel from the Gulf Coast to the East Coast. The Jones Act normally requires shipping companies calling between U.S. ports to use U.S.- flagged vessels only

Colonial Pipeline Co. said its main line that delivers to New Jersey and terminals around New York Harbor resumed deliveries on Saturday.

"The supply situation is going to improve quite a bit," said Andy Lipow, president of Lipow Oil Associates LLC in Houston. "Some of the terminals in Linden have full power. Buckeye restored to full power last night."

Atlas Supplies Critical Fuel To Superstorm Sandy Relief

Day 7 of our Superstorm Sandy support. We now have 56 trucks deployed and more than 70 people assisting! Fuel is in high demand.

As of Saturday, Nov. 3 at 3 p.m., Atlas Oil has deployed 34 fuel trucks, over 200,000 gallons of fuel and more than 30 drivers and support personnel to the Superstorm Sandy relief effort as fuel continues to be in critically short supply on the east coast. The team has set up a local command center camp in Pinebrook, New Jersey. Trucks and fuel are being dispatched to the hardest hit areas of the storm, including New York (including Manhattan and the Bronx areas) and New Jersey.

The company is on stand- by to provide additional resources as needed to aid the FEMA restoration efforts.

Engaging the supply chain community to support U.S. humanitarian relief efforts.

American Logistics Aid Network supports disaster recovery by engaging industry to address the unmet needs of relief organizations, communities, and people. ALAN makes supply chain related donation needs visible to the logistics industry and establishes an efficient process for providing the necessary goods and services through its web portal, www.alanaid.org

ALAN Supporting Critical Storm Relief Needs

Minneapolis, Nov. 2, 2012 – The American Logistics Aid Network (ALAN) is supporting Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) and emergency management agencies across the Mid-Atlantic and northeastern U.S. in their response to Superstorm Sandy. ALAN is engaging private industry and supply-chain companies to help fulfill needs of these disaster relief organizations during this time of great need..

Currently, relief agencies are posting urgent needs on the ALAN portal: www.alanaid.org/relief-needs.php. These include requests for food, transportation, water, and warehouse space. Businesses seeking to provide help can log onto the portal, view posted requests, and make offers of support. To help the relief/recovery effort, this week ALAN was able to secure:

A van and driver provided by CEVA Logistics to transport consumable medical supplies in New York City for the New York Hospital Association
Transportation provided by UPS for cleanup kits from Louisiana and Utah to the Bronx, NY for the United Methodist Committee on Relief

Hurricane Sandy Advisory 9
Sunday, November 4, 2012

EVENT INFORMATION

ALAN continues to work with our partners to respond to damages caused by Hurricane Sandy. Refer to www.FEMA.gov, www.nvoad.org for up-to-date information on government and non-profit response.

HOW TO HELP

PLEASE DONATE RESPONSIBLY, AND ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO DO THE SAME: "...unloading and storing or disposing of unnecessary donations can take away from more important relief efforts. When trucks, planes or ships laden with donations arrive at a disaster site, responders face a difficult choice. Unloading and processing the cargo requires considerable human resources, yet if the cargo is not unloaded, it can block access for shipments that really are crucial..."(LA Times)

ALAN is participating in VOAD, Emergency Management, and Business Emergency Operations Centers (BEOC) conference calls and monitoring media outlets for information. As of now we have the following open requests and are entertaining DONATED offers only at this time. Please check the ALAN portal as needs are frequently added and removed.

Truck-Rail Transload Locations

Bulk Transload Facilities Directory

This is the 27th annual guide of rail-to-truck transload facilities where cargo is transferred between tank or bulk trucks and water or rail transportation. The listings have been reviewed and updated and include addresses, phone and fax numbers. These bulk material handling companies also provide information such as products handled, services and equipment available, and methods for dry bulk product transfer. Click on the links in the left-hand column to find facilities in a particular geographic region. Each of these links then has listings arranged alphabetically by city.We encourage you to contact the company directly for more detailed information.
These intermodal locations are owned or operated by trucking companies, railroads, or independent bulk terminal operators. Unless the prohibition is stated, these businesses have indicated they allow outside carriers to load products at their facilities.

Tank Container Depots, New Jersey to South Carolina

Tank Container Depot Directory

INTERMODAL TANK container shipping operations continued to grow in North America over the past year. The annual Bulk Transporter Directory of Tank Container Depots is the most complete listing of bulk container storage facilities in the United States, and also provides listings for Canada and Mexico.
In compiling the directory, we have tried to list only those companies that have actual storage depot operations. The operators specialize in both the handling and storage of ISO containers. For instance, we try not to list carriers that provide only cargo container drayage service.
A couple of abbreviations are used in the section covering container-handling machines. SC stands for straddle carrier, and TLSL means top-lifting side-loader.
