They have a checkbox for Post Sandy Damage and it is new Satelite Images. Finally some images of the Docks. Many actually do not seem to be bad, at least from above.

The ones that do look bad are Linden and Perth Amboy, NJ. There is no telling whether the Tanker Docks, which are the really thin curved ones are damaged though. Salt water corroding the hookups, etc.

NY HARBOR UPDATE:


7 Container Ships have Docked overnight with 2 Docking at New York COntainer Terminal on Staten Island, which is freshly opened.

Total MAX TEUs overnight: 24,735

Total TEUs AT BEST since reopen: 140,811

That is still short of what the average daily sum would be for the 10 days since the port closed. Also assuming that all ships were full and unloaded all cargo which is not likely. We were short about 140,000 TEUs when the first docks reopened.

No new Oil tankers have Docked at the moment unless they have disappeared from the Map.

There is a good summary for the situation on 2 november for the oil supply in the whole area. The gasoline stocks are down to 5year minimum and are less than 50 MB (miliion barels?) This was enough for 16.5 days starting from 2 november.

Does somebody knows in which way the supply in middle long term will be affected? I read several articles mentioning problems for super Friday and the holiday season.

That is an excellent find. Thank you so much. It does verify what we have been covering here for a week now.

In an earlier post from yesterday I guessed that incoming supply at this point is in theory down about 40% for the area. My personal opinion is that it will be wavy, so some days will be bad and the next day pretty good at the pumps. But there will be a delay becaus of the existing supply. Maybe 1 or 2 week delay and then supply will start to get thin, prices rise, long lines etc.

I don't know how much of an area will be affected either.

Long term it will recover but I think we are looking well through Thanksgiving of abnormal supply, lines and rationing. Especially with this new storm coming in with the potential to knock out power again in many areas including the ports.

I just hope we do not see this with Food as the trains are down still and docks are not fully operational throughout the Port of NY/NJ.

Certainly anyone can give their opinions and observatiosn here.

Philly looks like it will get the most snow of the Two Ports. Somewhere between 3"-8"

That is where most all of the Oil from Tankers is being unloaded.

On the local level, my enterprising bodega owner opened day one after Sandy and stayed open.....he has no power but had new stuff to sell every day....his wife and relatives were sent out thru out the area to source out goods for the store...he made a ton of money while providing a service to the neighborhood without price gouging....he was even able to get a generator for a family with a sick handicapped girl....


He tolded me the advantage he has over the other closed businesses is he's a Middle Easterer.....this is normal business there to get goods....have to be a good trader and scrounger.....

Very interesting. Stick to that store. I am not very old but I still remember when many stores were like that. Now so many stores are corporate franchises that they never need those skills or learned them.

Tremendous amount of cargo trucks heading towards 278 (gawanus expressway) right now. Bumper to bumper...first time i've seen trucks since the storm. Someone must have been able to unload.

Also lots of private cars now leaving south side of Brooklyn...no surprise there....

Superstorm Sandy cost an estimated $1 billion in damages to the Northeast cargo industry, said an industry consultant on Saturday.

"It looks like we're losing close to $80 million a day on that," said Charles Clowdis, managing director for transportation and consulting services at IHS Global Insight. "Through yesterday, we have probably lost close to $1 billion on cargo delays."

Railroads and trucking companies are beginning to service the region again. The container terminals at the Port of New York and New Jersey remained closed through Saturday, with vessels rerouting to other ports.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said on Monday that the Port Elizabeth Terminal had opened with the arrival of vessels at the Maher and APM terminals. The Port Authority also said that the Port Newark Container Terminal and the Global Terminal in Jersey City, NJ, would open for business on Nov. 5 with ship arrivals expected at both facilities by that night...

Jones Act waiver gets fuel to Northeast, gas and heating oil prices drop

After the U.S. waived shipping requirements to get much needed fuel into the Northeast, prices for gasoline and heating oil fell.

The Department of Homeland Security waived the Jones Act so that more vessels could carry fuel from the Gulf Coast to the East Coast. The Jones Act normally requires shipping companies calling between U.S. ports to use U.S.- flagged vessels only

Colonial Pipeline Co. said its main line that delivers to New Jersey and terminals around New York Harbor resumed deliveries on Saturday.

"The supply situation is going to improve quite a bit," said Andy Lipow, president of Lipow Oil Associates LLC in Houston. "Some of the terminals in Linden have full power. Buckeye restored to full power last night."
