I am in the process of sending goods and money to people I know in the afflicted area.

What are you doing to help?

You have obviously never run a business. One cannot recoup losses through a business write off.

If a store has $1,000 stolen from them, then can't get it back through a write off. All they can do is claim 1,000 less in profits. Of course, here's hoping that, that $1,000 wasn't needed to keep the lights on or pay the employees.

I retired at 42 in a business (three of them) that suffered loss on a daily basis due to breakage or theft and rarely took a loss. Hope you do as well in life.

Yes, you'd be handing out food to grateful people waiting quietly and patiently in line...NOT! (Hungry mums with starving infants would make The Hills Have Eye's freaks look about as scary as Forrest Gump!)

You can't wrap it all up in one tidy little package and say "shoot the looters"....they are trying to survive, feed their kids. Wouldn't you keep what you and your family needs, and give what you don't to others who do? Wouldn't that be the right thing to do?

Goodness doesn't come from god or christ. It comes from within and without. Obviously some of us have it....and some of us don't. Evidently even some of those who are christian.

People need to understand that praying does fuck all. Expecting some god to take care of the people who lost it all in the storm is beyond ridiculous. The only help those people will get it from you and me.

What if some were preppers, like you and me, and the freaking storm was bigger than what they prepped for?? Could happen to you, you know. Your stockpile of diapers could get soaked in the flood and your poor baby has none. Your jugs of water were washed away and your freeze dried food was no match for the deluge. Could be you or I or anyone who thought they had "prepared". Don't you understand that no amount of preparation is truly a match for the awesome power of nature's elements?

I find it interesting that all the haters here are ACs.

In a disaster situation many people go in fight or flight mode. Many people are dangerous and un-reasonable in this state. I also however think in a way your right. Some badass could see your generosity and goodwill and decide to protect you...with their weapons. Fact is; alot of humans are just bad.

I believe that the majority of people looting aren't doing so because they are starving, I believe they're doing it because everything is chaotic right now and they think they can get away with it.

They're not trapped in a mine with no way out, it's NY for christ sake. They have options.

The only people I feel a great deal of sympathy for are the disabled/elderly/children. Able bodied people that are capable of fucking up your business are capable of getting where they need to go for help.
