I hope you have something cool. Do yourself a favor and watch this amazing video. I thought it was a lighter weight. , but it was in the middle of no where,, it weighs 4 pounds 10 ounces, I thought that was heavy for the size. I did send pictures to a so called meteorite guy and he actually was kinda stumped and said to send it to him to look at and I was like uhhh no. Quoting: inithiemx Possibly you could chisel off a small piece and have it assayed somewhere; maybe the chemistry department of a university or even send the sample to that meteorite guy. Look in your phone book for companies that might have some sort of chemical testing department connected with their operations and call them. I would keep the big chunk hidden away unless you want some doofus to pull a 'confiscation' routine on you. "Who decides?" ---Robert A. Where my father used to live in Australia up in the mountains there are dead volcanos and theres heaps of these rocks, he stacked them as a wall in his garden. I was always amused by them as a child.. little holes all over them and SUPER heavy!!, some of the edges were a bit sharp.. you could drop them and they wouldnt break.. well theyd break your toe, thats for sure! |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 30747832 12/25/2012 10:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | When I was a kid I found what I thought was a bunch of what I thought were rocks that looked just like that. I found them sticking out of the ground. I was immediately interested because they looked like a meteorite, so my friends and I gathered them all up. Well it didn't take long before my idiot friend Tony decided to have a rock fight. He lugged one of the rocks at me and I jumped out of the way and it hit the wall behind me and it shattered. I was confused at how it was so brittle that it nearly turned to dust so I asked my dad what kind of Rock it was seeing as he used to work in mines. He told me that it wasn't a rock at all that actually it was a type of fungi that could be found in the Midwest. He said that the way to tell if it is a fungi or a rock is to do two things one being check and see if its brittle and two being smell it. Seeing as its organic material it does produce a smell and it is a strong musky smell. So get a whiff and if your nose feels like it just got punched it may be a weird mushroom. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 25019064 12/25/2012 11:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Definitely looks like a chunk of basalt if you said it's heavy. The pores in it mean it cooled really fast, and not at depth. So it was probably expelled from a volcano umteen million years go. Hit the surface, lost all of it's internal gasses, and cooled looking like that. Nice find. Congratulations, the darker it is the higher chance of it being mantle material. Your holding a piece of the earths core. That's what I can glean from it from the pictures. I would take it to your local university and have a geology professor have a look at it. They might be interested in it depending on how old it is. |

Then you must have it tested for cosmic radiation. I found a 10 lb stony meteorite a few years back and got my ass handed to me for just bring the stone in without that information. I have since proven my rock a meteorite, but will never sell it. What you do is up to you, but you must prove it true FIRST. Good Luck |

Ohhh Noo! Hehe! Honestly looked like lava, however the weight does seems heavy.... I've held a rather large piece and it was light as air (resembles stone sponge look) I hope it's worth a ton of money! Good find :) |
