why would someone or someone(s) withhold another's birthright? to what end? cui bono?

OK, say a king has a son, and it is his birthright to take the throne. Does the prince not learn everything he can to improve himself before taking the throne? Or does he lay around in bed all day, not learning how to read, or write, not learning negotiation tactics, not developing relationships with surrounding influences, etc. etc.

Just because someone has a birthright to something doesn't mean he releases all responsibility of some day being in that position.
