Re: Sandy from the South Shore Long Island - Just got power & Internet back. Here's the REAL DEAL
My heart and thoughts are with you OP and all others trapped in that situation.

Having lived through a category 5 cyclone here in Australia, and having been part of the recovery process, I know that while prepping is essential, sometimes, something so big, so powerful, so scarey comes along that no amount of prepping is going to save you.

For days in my case, and weeks in other areas, travelling for supplies was too dangerous with powerlines down, flooding, trees down blocking roads, snakes and other dangerous wildlife on the move etc .....

The mind numbing shock of the day and days after has to be experienced to be believed. The trauma can stay for months or years.

It is at times like this that we all need some generosity and a helping hand from our fellow man, not judgement or "I told you so".

Please, all of those judging and advising this OP that they should have been better prepared, be open minded and open hearted and accept that sometimes "shit just happens" no matter how well prepared you are, and give whatever you can, supplies, money, your time, to help these folks recover from this.

I did prepare. More than most. I am an avid GLP'r. I have supplies. Honestly I didn't see the gas thing coming. I'm not going to power a generator just so my wife and kid can have a night light.

What I am seeing is it is bad ad getting worse for a bunch of people. It could have been avoided - but I really see TPTB seem to want this.

That's the thing. It's nearly impossible to prep for EVERY contingency.

Thanks very much for taking the time to give a thorough and honest report. I live in Norfolk (another Hurricane Happy Land), and I've been wondering what's really going on up there in NY/NJ.

I'm grateful to hear a report from a "real person."

NY / NJ were way overdue for this. It is much worse than the media portrays. Think long term and displacement of people, business, etc. Folks will be pulling up stakes out of necessity, towns and municipalities will be losing huge amounts of revenue. No tourism dollars this summer or likely the next, the cascade effect is incalculable. Insurance companies and reinsurnance toast, there is absolutely no money to pay for any of this. Don't forget old neglected infrastructure, it is not going to be pretty.

Guess you are learning the hard way. It's was not that difficult to figure out. You live as sea level (which indicates that the ground has been prone to deluge over the last millennia).

If you look on the positive side, if you survive this chaos, you can make better preparation when it happens again (which it surely will)

Live an learn! Good luck. BTW, don't rely too heavily on the twisters you pay your taxes too. They will tell you anything to line their pockets with your cash!

The doom is not now, the doom is the next few years, that is the reality, slow death for many families and livelyhoods, leave now if you can, walk away and take the hit. I've seen it, think ahead now, if you did not prep this is a second chance, plan to leave and set up shop somewhere else permanently.

Re: Sandy from the South Shore Long Island - Just got power & Internet back. Here's the REAL DEAL
This thread is mostly about no gas. Heres some truth!

I work for the major utility company in NJ. I have been part of the crews restoring power. Not the actual work but assessing damage so i have seen all of jersey. From north (mahwah, caldwell, jersey city, etc), to south of there in (east brunswick, rahway, linden, newark). Ive seem alot.

What i can tell you is getting power is going to take still some more time. You must understand that the amount of trees that have taken down power lines is extreme. I worked on a circuit that had multiple hits in west caldwell that had 30 different issues. That line is going to take a week just to replace the multiple poles, and splice all the lines together. We had to stop every 2 minutes just to write up a new report

As were doing the lines, we understand people are in the dark so we try and let them know whats going on but most dont understand the more were stopped, the less we get done. Talking for more then 5min to every person that runs up adds up.

OP, heres a reccommendation. Next time they say a storm is coming...PREPARE! Water! Theres a reason to buy it! Fill up your gas tanks! Get non perishable food that will last for more then a week! Generators are available as i know of 10 people myself that have bought them from different stores. They run out very quickly though.

How bout if you had done the above, you could then have enough of what you need to maybe run your car and get into jersey more south where there are no lines and you might have to wait 5 minutes for gas.

Also, guess what, sitting in traffic as we try and bring peoples power back on does not help either. We sat in 3-4hours of traffic that affected not just us, but other crews as well( service crews, tree cutting crews). State of emergency! You stay home unless its absolutely neccessary to go out. Keep the roads clear so we can get our job done quicker!

You need food??? Go to linden, walmart was open. Tons of food there. Generators? Home depot right next store as well. Ask them when they are getting a shipment in and get there early. Bring cash just in case!

Bad milk you mentioned? Yeah well for me its common sense but understand a power outage just happened across multiple states. When you go to buy your food, check it out before you buy it. Stores are very busy, trying to get back to normal mode. You must be careful as the store is doing their best to get the freshest food in. I used to work for a food store, A&P, and if we saw something that had an issue we would pullit from the shelf immediately. I saw 3 different people bring back 3 same dated gallons of milk back as well as a phone call about it, and told the manager to pull any milk dated with those dates.

Media sucks!! They always have!! They are the ones who try to control everything!! Your on this site for a reason, its time to wake up and realize that they dont control you any more! Take control of the things around you before you let things control you!!

People who did not prepare are at the mercy of the state/gov. People who did prepare, are not as worried about food/water/staying warm.

Its still bad out there though and this is going to last a while. Gas problems will quickly go away now that its finally being distributed to gas stations. Stop creating panic.

Sorry for being the bringer of the non doom, but "I" am just trying to bring some truth to the table here.

Also, on my cell, from home, in the dark, without power still. I have the second largest utility for my power in jersey, and they suck lol

How did you prepare? It sounds like you ran out of food and gas quite quickly. And you should thank your lucky stars that your TV doesn't work. It's nothing but lies and mind control. Use the time you used to spend in front of the TV looking for another place to live, far inland and far away from the hordes, because things are only going to get worse. Spend the time figuring out how you can become self-sufficient.

Thank you all for the kind words and wishes. I want to clarify my family and I are in a good place, warm and safe. I have plenty of bottled water, however we are bathing in the chlorine water.

My situation is mild compared to most just a tad bit south and west of me. Some more strange things I have observed:

National Guard troops at a gas station just north of me.

Military Humvee Vehicles escorting a 500 gallon fuel oil tanker.

Cash Only everywhere! Even if they have power the cashiers are being told to only accept cash. Others have said you must pay cash at gas stations. No Credit/ATM accepted.

Here are some local news sites, but most of them require you to sign up to read. You should be able to see headlines though.

Yes, the aftermath of this geo-engineered event is playing out exactly as premised. If you prepped accordingly (food, water, gas, generator, propane, cash stash, etc.), then you're sitting pretty. If those who were told to evacuate, had evacuated, there would only be horror stories of destroyed homes, which should have been covered by insurance. The horror stories of death and food/gas/clothing shortages are now arising from those who did not prep or did not leave when they were supposed to. Textbook aftermath. Typical and preventable. As for the old people not leaving -- the adult children are responsible for getting them out. Simply saying "she/he didn't want to leave" doesn't cut it. WHERE OH WHERE ARE PEOPLE'S BALLS AND SENSE OF PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY THESE DAYS???

It really is not as bad as people are making it seem. As i said a bit earlier, power is hard getting back. Trees were major issues in ruining power everywhere. Its gunna be a while. Gas is not as big an issue as people are making it seem. Many just flock to gas lines to sit for hours because they are afraid from what the media keeps saying. There are plenty of gas stations in jersey, just gotta find someone with a cell phone, look up on the internet where the gas stations are, and your set.

People who dont have food/water, stores are opening up, again, ask around 50% of each city has power and stores open. Just might have to walk 10min to get to the store...or drive?

Jersey was hit bad. I wont deny that. But most of the people complaining want things hand delivered to their house....

Wake up. Take control of yourself and family instead of relying on the government. Its really not that hard. If your told to evacuate, evacuate. People have issues because they didnt prepare or didnt evacuate and then complain about everything.

Being on this site should teach you about becoming self sufficiant, and how to prepare and not buy the media hype on everything. If they say evacuate, do it! If they tell you theres a gas shortage, well, theres only a shortage because people didnt prepare.

What this guy said.

Seems there is always a few people who take some sort of perverse joy in other peoples misfortunes.

Maybe not enough love as a child or other sort of psych issues.

Whenever something like this happens, you get those folks saying, why do you live there?

California has quakes.

Gulf, Fla, east coast has hurricanes. Northern states have blizzards.

Mid-west has tornadoes, floods, drought, etc.

Bottom line is, we all live somewhere, due to jobs or where we grew up, etc. We can't prepare for everything. Many of us have elderly parents, in-laws, nearby who we need to keep an eye on, etc.

Way too much dickish-ness on here. It's the minority, but they still suck. Rant over.

I posted on page one, checking in still without power on south shore Long Island, day 7. I have a bike with knobby tires that allows me to leave and scout the area every day without burning gas.

I was more prepared than 95% of the spoiled suburbanites here, although didn't have all areas covered. I'm giving myself a day or 2 to seriously considering driving north out of here with the option that I will abandon my home and business and not return

I'm getting sick of people telling people they should've prepped better. Seriously. This is worse than we thought and if your house is swept away and you packed your car with supplies and left, you will still need more supplies in a few days with a family of four!

People, think!

Yes...and the temp is now in the 30's. Even if you didn't lost your house, if you have no power, you're cold.

It is terrible! There are many factors in play here. People are homeless in their cars with children or in a home freezing..and going hungry. Bodies found on streets and that just adds to the misery..
 Quoting: Starry eyes

yeah that sucks but guess what...thanks to the banksters, others have been displaced and homeless for years now. thanks to the cost of living rising far above incomes, people have had no choice but to live in their cars with their families.

i've said it before and i'll say it again...this 'ascension' everyone is talking about is bullshit. the real 'evolution' has to happen from real crisis and real wake-up: loss of material goods, experiencing a shattering of complacency, being forced to work together and a shift of values as the result of disaster.

the people who can handle this are the ones who have been forced to live it for years already. the meek inheriting the earth? a phrase i have always felt was sorely misunderstood.

also...derpa-der...have a freakin' voltage adapter in your vehicle so you can charge your shit/cell phones etc. up.

hot water bottles...jars, anything that will hold hot water...for heat at night. great on the feet!

i'd also suggest catching & boiling rain water for drinking, as opposed to relying on the city water. i'm sure rainwater is chock full of nasty crap but it's better than chlorinated sewage.

do not touch any animals, rats, etc.!!!!

basic survival is a lot easier than you are led to believe.

it does help to have a camp stove. all this shit should be in your vehicle at all times.

next tie 'they' say it's gonna be a whopper storm, PREPARE AND HEED! better safe than sorry. do NOT rely on GLP'ers to give you reassurance that it's 'overhyped, nothing will happen, it's just to scare people.' the way i see it, THAT is the GLP effect. fuck you shills. and screw americans for being so fucking convinced it can't happen to them. that goes for the UK too.

cat 1 my ass.

time to wake up.

the whole thing is a psy-op. ALL the new age crap is bullshit. the religious stuff too...people just eat what they are fed and have no idea about true history or the fabrication of religion.

for example, the thread on the mayans being pissed about exploitation of 2012 'prophecy...' they say it is completely false.

basically anything the media tells you is going to be bullshit. if there are movies and tv shows hyping it, you can be sure it is a lie.

what gets me are all these 'righteous' people who use fear to 'convert' & threaten. twas ever thus...anything based in fear is a lie. so i'm going to hell? nah. i know better.

If you need work FEMA needs clean up crews for South Jersey. It's $1,000 for 7 days, hotel and food included. Call 904-797-5998.. Pass the word on if you know people who need work.
