We have been cut off, out of the loop for days not knowing anything but what the local media on the radio had reported.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26922019

I don't understand why you didn't have a portable radio with batteries or a crank up. That's your own fault. I was also on Long Island when it hit and was listening to my crank up the whole time and knew what was going on.

Also, there is plenty of food as many supermarkets have opened and fully stocked. Just drive around. Go further up north.

From what I see, yes some people had their homes damaged and in some cases destroyed, but for the most part people are just inconvenienced and complaining about not have their iPhones charged or being able to watch their favorite tv programs.

Re: Sandy from the South Shore Long Island - Just got power & Internet back. Here's the REAL DEAL
Thank you all for the kind words and wishes. I want to clarify my family and I are in a good place, warm and safe. I have plenty of bottled water, however we are bathing in the chlorine water.

My situation is mild compared to most just a tad bit south and west of me. Some more strange things I have observed:

National Guard troops at a gas station just north of me.

Military Humvee Vehicles escorting a 500 gallon fuel oil tanker.

Cash Only everywhere! Even if they have power the cashiers are being told to only accept cash. Others have said you must pay cash at gas stations. No Credit/ATM accepted.

Here are some local news sites, but most of them require you to sign up to read. You should be able to see headlines though.

Re: Sandy from the South Shore Long Island - Just got power & Internet back. Here's the REAL DEAL
We have been cut off, out of the loop for days not knowing anything but what the local media on the radio had reported. Even getting power back we still have no TV. I just got Internet.

The damage in my town and the towns surrounding me is moderate to severe. Flooding is horrible and no one had power. But we survived and lucky to have more than most elsewhere.

Water is unusable and sewage treatment plants are down left and right. THE WATER SMELLS OF CHLORINE - SUPER STRONG!

Gas/food/supplies:
it is near impossible to get. On a normal day I travel 70 miles a day into Nassau County and points in between. I quickly ran out of fuel and still find it impossible to get gas. I refuse to play into this panic and wait online 3-4-5-6++ hours just to get $40 of $4.89 gas.

Everyone wants a generator. All over the radio talk about them here or there. No gas but run out and buy that generator.

Food stores are hit or miss. I really feel this is the next big crisis. No deliveries are getting in. Twice now I have gone out to restock the fridge with new food and found foul milk being sold at King Kullen and Stop & Shop!

Controlled Chaos:
The politicians are making things worse. Media is hand in hand creating panic. All day long on local stations all they have is folks calling in reporting who has and who has no gas. I'm sure you hear the stories. People lines up hours waiting at a closed station for some delivery that may or may not arrive.

For example, Governor Cuomo in all his infinite wisdom announces 10 gallons of free fuel in mobile stations parked in western regions of the affected area. Lines form and quickly they tell everyone its for EMS vehicles only. Mayor Bloomberg holds a news conference an hour later telling people to go get the free gas if they need it.

Employment:
Most everyone I know couldn't get to work on Friday. No gas. My job laid everyone off on Friday afternoon for all of next week. Calling it a work furlow just so you can't claim unemployment! So now people need to worry how the hell they are supposed to feed their family losing close to 2 weeks pay.

Look it's bad. Worst I've ever seen. Worse than Gloria back in the 80's and much much worse than the 70's gas crisis. Back then it wasn't chaos. IT IS COMPLETE CHAOS.

I have seen fights in the streets. Accidents and cars broken down on the side of the road no gas. Flooding came far inland, trees and power lines down all over. LIPA can not tell us when the power will be restored fully and the whole situation is about to boil over into a full scale breakdown of society.

I can see how they control the chaos. Slowly ratcheting it up and now whipping it up into a full scale frenzy.

I know this is normal for a crisis such as this but hold on folks. I see it getting much worse yet! This was more than a "Hybrid Storm". It was the start of it all! I am sure of it.

Just needed to vent and let you guys know what I see.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26922019

Many people still dont get it that this storm was manufactured and Obama knew about this False Flag. Howevr, we are yet to see the worst of it and there are many pointers they want to put on a show for the elections and freeze the whole place. Perhaps even some flooding. I tried explaining what is going on with this storm in this thread:

Thread: Sandy Staged to push Global Warming Fraud - Obama's unprecedented response is the clue.

About the aid coming, they will stall it.

I am very sorry to say this but I think they have decided to use the people of NJ and NY as a sacrifice to push their agenda of GLOBAL WARMING to herald in their NWO. The masses unaware that this storm is engineered will fall for the deception.

Michio Kaku said that this was a storm you will tell the grandkids about while Obama said this was a slow creeping storm. The NJ governor Chris Christie look frightened as if he knew another round of this storm was coming. His complete 360 turn about Obama is also suspicious.

The masses getting excited over the election think its over. How come people don't ask the question where this storm came from and whether they are gonna see any other one in the very near future affecting other states. Perhaps maybe even them and that they should get out while they can, after all no one knows what mother nature would do next and the next time she comes around she could bring all her fury.

Or is Obama now able to tame mother nature?.........adding to the list of the many campaign promises he's making? When the next storm strikes, Obama will pretend as if he doesn't know about it and that it is as a result of mother nature and these people laughing now will be crying for help and taught a lesson of their lives.

I beg you to please leave that place while you can in the next day or 2 and move farther inland. Stay safe and thanks for the heads up.

You're going to the wrong areas for food and supplies.

I just came back from Commack, Deer Park and Northport which is just a 20-30 minute drive from the South Shore. Plenty of supermarkets open and packed with produce. Trader Joe's in Commack all stocked. The big shopping mall in Deer Park open, including the NY Sports Club. People were jogging on the treadmills and swimming in the pool.

Also got a full tank of gas two nights ago in Northport. Only two cars in front of me.

I hear you. It's block to block good and bad in some cases. I am so close to utter devastation areas yet life goes on elsewhere.

FEMA announcing these creepy "Feeding Stations" situated nowhere close to where they are needed. All over the radio telling people to drive to them. I tend to believe FEMA is aware there is a gas shortage.

My wife spent the day out looking for gas. She gave up. It's just not that important right now.

I think the local government officials are focused on reelection and are over promising. And the Fed's are pushing misinformation left and right.

Someone asked about elections. I don't think anyone in NY, NJ, CT are focused on the elections at the moment. Obama made his appearance for the press in NJ and really left us New Yorker's feeling left out. Not a surprise from the president.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1015009

Um, how do you know where to go? If there are supplies there and someone else knows about it, you think they'll tell YOU? No they'll keep quiet and hurry over there themselves.

It's everyone for themselves, and no sufficient provision nor military/police presence to enforce distribution and rationing. People obviously will die in this.

OP another storm is coming in a few days. Please consider coming inland.

I'm getting sick of people telling people they should've prepped better. Seriously. This is worse than we thought and if your house is swept away and you packed your car with supplies and left, you will still need more supplies in a few days with a family of four!

People, think!
 Quoting: Starry eyes

Insurance will provide you temporary living if your house was completely destroyed. derp derp.

Its called preparing, but of course (I live here) I have to hear all the tards complain and cry about how Obama has to save them.

Didn't want to spend money on insurance when you live on the fucking coast or an island? Well then stfu and enjoy the streets.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14969347

Newsflash fucktard...

There is even devastation from this storm away from the coast. Even Central PA had power outages and curfews. WIDESPREAD DAMAGE.
 Quoting: Starry eyes

I live in Jersey where the eye hit you fucking tard.

If you prepared even slightly you are fine. Most people don't, then cry about it.

Sandy wasn't even a fucking hurricane anymore when it made landfall...

But a few 50 year old, poorly constructed homes got smacked down and now it is the end of the fucking world and people demand government to fix it all, feed them, house them, I have seen people demanding that government clothe their fucking children for school...

Its not like we were prepared for over a fucking week or anything. I was at Sams club the day before and not a fucker was in there buying anything, the place was loaded with supplies.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14969347

the eye of this storm was not the strongest point for damage.....
it was traveling do west so you never got the high winds it packed nor the highest storm surge.
that was long island lower manahattan brooklyn and the hardest hit staten island.

so it just so how little you followed this storm and it effects.
this little slip up could put you in the same boat next if you are not as lucky.

we had 90mph winds on long island and a 13' storm surge.
now if this storm had made a later land fall there would have been a 5.6' high tide as well.
this was a cat 1 huricane solid but carried a cat 3 storm surge.

I made a thread explaining why this storm couldn't just be a coincidence. It is pure common sense....something you can ask yourself and almost feel. It will take you at least 5 mins to read through. You responded to my post barely seconds after posting without even opening the thread asking me if I want to look stupid..

Thread: Sandy Staged to push Global Warming Fraud - Obama's unprecedented response is the clue.

If you did open the thread and read through I am sure you might be the one that might look stupid for believing that this storm was purely coincidental.

And if it was the word "manufactured" that got to you, well I meant it was controlled and stirred perhaps even created.

In my yard, we had two big pine trees, maybe a foot and a half in diameter and completely healthy, SNAP IN HALF. (I can confirm they were completely healthy, I can see all the wood in the middle of the trunks now!) I am north of NYC, maybe 10 miles inland from Long Island Sound. We had only wind damage, but it was severe, worse than Irene. This storm took down many trees that survived both Irene and the Halloween snowstorm last year. And it also snapped power poles in half, when have you ever seen that before?

No you're wrong about Bloomberg, he is gay but he's quite centrist in his policies and practical. He's willing to go after the troublemakers even if he's accused of racial profiling.

Why did he keep Obama out? I don't know but every time Obama visited NYC or Connecticut, there were always massive costs, congestion, delays, business interruptions, etc. He probably just could not trust Obama, would rather avoid the risk.

Makes sense to me, feel free to Monday-morning quarterback.

I agree. He did look frightened, it made me feel really uncomfortable watching him. I felt that something was definitely not right. Anybody else feel like this? It made me think that he was told to act as he did or his state wouldn't get what they needed. It was very weird.

The new storm that's coming in is bringing rain, snow, wind & cold temps. If you have a way out of there, you should leave. Get as far inland as you can get.

I thank you for posting this thread, which is invaluable to the rest of us Preppers. I have a few straight up questions. Please do not take offense.
1) Are Silver coins of any value to you in this situation?
2) Are your neighbors prepared in anyway at all?
3) Do you know that another storm is coming on Wednesday?
4) Is there anything that I or we GLP can do to help you?
5) Do you have any idea as to why the people in NYC were so unprepared?
Thank you in advance for your response.
I am now praying for you and your family too.

Agree 100%. People who weren't in this storm have almost certainly never been in a storm like it. The amount of energy in this storm was incredible, and damage in our area was massive even with no flooding or moisture issues to worry about.

I think we'll still be learning about the damage to the coastal areas in a week -- and a new storm is coming that could affect them again. And it's getting down toward freezing tonight (wind chill 20F in my town according to accuweather) and colder than that the next couple of nights.

Re: Sandy from the South Shore Long Island - Just got power & Internet back. Here's the REAL DEAL
I know this is normal for a crisis such as this but hold on folks. I see it getting much worse yet! This was more than a "Hybrid Storm". It was the start of it all! I am sure of it.

Just needed to vent and let you guys know what I see.

In a number of ways this storm may be the start of a vicious cycle of storms that can cripple this country and with another "storm" already in sight the size of the eastern seaboard and a noreaster dropping two and three feet of snow over the Midwest heading east. Thr possibitirs of what could be written off on news broadcasts as a snow storm can be the nail in the coffin. With current devastation and added wind and rain Nf flooding , add freezing remorseless amd 2 feet of snow as far south as north Florida ... Let's just say have your ready packs extra supplies and be prepared we are in for a long rough winter

Praying for all of you.yoda

I would have a full tank of fuel and watch the weather. If another storm is building I would bail and roll to a safer location with less people. The problem is there are too many people in a small area and everything has to run smoothly or things break down very quickly. Prayers for all..angel3

No deliveries are getting in. Twice now I have gone out to restock the fridge with new food and found foul milk being sold at King Kullen and Stop & Shop!

Not true for most people on Long Island. I just came back with fresh milk, fresh eggs, fresh meat, freshly baked bread and a slew of other groceries. Lights are coming back. Things are getting back to normal.

Also, if you live on or near the water, what do you expect? Those places are always hit the hardest, especially the South Shore. The good thing is that food and supplies are not that far away. The fact that you have internet means you can google supermarkets and then just call or skype to see if they're open. No need to drive randomly around.

Re: Sandy from the South Shore Long Island - Just got power & Internet back. Here's the REAL DEAL
I think tptb like to have all the footage all over showing how dependent we are on our fossil fuels. Damn us for not all buying those solar powered cars.

But...an electric car would have its advantages right now in an emergency situation. Your power is back on, so you'd be able to charge it. But while the power was off, you wouldn't have been able to drive it once it ran out of juice, it's a trade off. Those first few days tho, you didn't really need to go anywhere, it's now that people have to go back to work and go get supplies, or go check on people, and there's no gas, it's really fucking shit up.

Wonder why gas isn't getting delivered. Why can't they just send a bunch of fuel trucks in there? I'm not getting it, are the bridges and main roads not cleared yet for trucks to make it through?

OP, I am glad that you are safe. Your message about being prepared, but not seeing the gas shortage coming is clear.

I'm not OP but I was talking to a young woman who lives in a high-rise in the area last week and encouraged her to store water in her bathtub. She made a face and I don't think she liked the idea. She's a very smart and capable young lady, but she is young and hasn't seen many storms.

People who live in cities are used to services being present. They rely on services and tend to block out the possibility of them being interrupted. And services are quite reliable almost all the time, far moreso than out in the countryside.

This is the city mindset. People depend on the infrastructure and their decision to do so is almost always rewarded. Prepping is a losing decision almost always.

Except when it's not!
