This thread is mostly about no gas. Heres some truth!

I work for the major utility company in NJ. I have been part of the crews restoring power. Not the actual work but assessing damage so i have seen all of jersey. From north (mahwah, caldwell, jersey city, etc), to south of there in (east brunswick, rahway, linden, newark). Ive seem alot.

What i can tell you is getting power is going to take still some more time. You must understand that the amount of trees that have taken down power lines is extreme. I worked on a circuit that had multiple hits in west caldwell that had 30 different issues. That line is going to take a week just to replace the multiple poles, and splice all the lines together. We had to stop every 2 minutes just to write up a new report

As were doing the lines, we understand people are in the dark so we try and let them know whats going on but most dont understand the more were stopped, the less we get done. Talking for more then 5min to every person that runs up adds up.

OP, heres a reccommendation. Next time they say a storm is coming...PREPARE! Water! Theres a reason to buy it! Fill up your gas tanks! Get non perishable food that will last for more then a week! Generators are available as i know of 10 people myself that have bought them from different stores. They run out very quickly though.

How bout if you had done the above, you could then have enough of what you need to maybe run your car and get into jersey more south where there are no lines and you might have to wait 5 minutes for gas.

Also, guess what, sitting in traffic as we try and bring peoples power back on does not help either. We sat in 3-4hours of traffic that affected not just us, but other crews as well( service crews, tree cutting crews). State of emergency! You stay home unless its absolutely neccessary to go out. Keep the roads clear so we can get our job done quicker!

You need food??? Go to linden, walmart was open. Tons of food there. Generators? Home depot right next store as well. Ask them when they are getting a shipment in and get there early. Bring cash just in case!

Bad milk you mentioned? Yeah well for me its common sense but understand a power outage just happened across multiple states. When you go to buy your food, check it out before you buy it. Stores are very busy, trying to get back to normal mode. You must be careful as the store is doing their best to get the freshest food in. I used to work for a food store, A&P, and if we saw something that had an issue we would pullit from the shelf immediately. I saw 3 different people bring back 3 same dated gallons of milk back as well as a phone call about it, and told the manager to pull any milk dated with those dates.

Media sucks!! They always have!! They are the ones who try to control everything!! Your on this site for a reason, its time to wake up and realize that they dont control you any more! Take control of the things around you before you let things control you!!

People who did not prepare are at the mercy of the state/gov. People who did prepare, are not as worried about food/water/staying warm.

Its still bad out there though and this is going to last a while. Gas problems will quickly go away now that its finally being distributed to gas stations. Stop creating panic.

Sorry for being the bringer of the non doom, but "I" am just trying to bring some truth to the table here.

Also, on my cell, from home, in the dark, without power still. I have the second largest utility for my power in jersey, and they suck lol
