Or should I say the whole premise behind the picture is a fake. Someone took the damn picture, the Rover isn't not on Mars. It's on Earth. This is all bullshit. If we landed on the moon in 1969, there is no way in the world we wouldn't have gone back. It's been nearly a half-century since we allegedly went there. If we had gotten there successfully that long ago we would have had colonies on the moon right now, not just the USA either. Be bloody realistic. Once you leave this atmosphere you have the Van Allen radiation belt to contend with starting at 1000 KM going to 60,000 KM. It's highly irradiated. If our space program successfully got through it unharmed in 1969-72 then why has no one passed through it since?

I have run out of ways to say "It doesn't matter HOW MANY IMAGES make up the whole". The number is irrelevant. It doesn't matter. It's beside the point.

The point is that the ARM is MISSING.

I'm sitting at work browsing my favourite forum, trying to contribute. As I said, I know fuck all about space missions, not even space programme rovers. Let me get this right, you're saying that MAHLI is visible in this photo? That would sure be impossible to perform, I agree. From my understanding, there is no MAHLI visible in this photo, just like the arm is not visible. But if I'm wrong, well fuck you if I'm wrong, you're the rude asshole here.

I apologize for being rude but none the less you have to be incredibly gullible to believe what's being shoveled here.

I don't necessarily believe it, actually it's hard to believe without being there. I am not a photoshop specialist, neither an expert in rovers structure and accessories. I just didn't see the problem with putting the robotic arm to the left, than to the right while keeping the camera in the same position, then overlay the images. But ok, I did not realize at this point that the same camera that took those 55 images is visible in the composition. Now I can go with the story of this being pure bullshit.
On another note, I heard someone saying "If we have a rover on Mars then we definitely should have like a bunch of HD webcams on the Moon by now."

Actually if you look closely in photoshop it is a reflection of a lens, nothing behind the lens though. I'm not sure if it setup a tripod of some sort to take the picture or what. Very strange none the less.

Not sure, maybe another probe on the planet? What other robots that are functioning does NASA have on Mars?

In the above photo you can see where the arm is mounted.

The self-portrait is a composite and they were able to edit out the arm. They left the shadow of the APXS and MAHLI.

Whatever this is, the shadows are all wrong. Look at the shadow of the rock going in the opposite direction. The shadows dont line up. This thing is wrong is so many ways...

Most of those wires need to move so they can't be put in conduit, but I agree, should be in a protective flex at least, pretty vunerable.

Now imagine what it would look like if composite-part of the picture in the lower center was taken when the arm was moved out of the picture. It would look like the Mahli was floating in space.

Composite pictures with moveable arms sometimes necessarily edit out the arm because it has moved to multiple different positions and would obscure the desired image.

Not that 99% of you brianless morans could ever understand.

I waited a good ten minutes for that page to load, and saw just what I expected to see:

AN ARM ATTACHED TO THE ROVER, HOLDING THE CAMERA.

No matter where you move that arm, it's STILL ATTACHED TO THE ROVER. No matter where you position the camera, THERE WILL STILL BE PART OF THE ARM VISIBLE. You cannot get rid of it no matter HOW MANY ANGLES YOU USE, without 'shopping it out, and if you do that, you must SAY SO. It will NEVER look like the MAHLI was floating in space, because there will be the base of the arm sticking out from the rover to the edge of the frame.

Speaking of morans, did you not once read the parts where I said "If NASA 'shopped it, they have to say so, or we can never trust them".

ADDED: IF this were a PANORAMA, the arm would have to be edited, and NASA would have to say so. BUT IT IS NOT A PANORAMA. It is a gazillion still shots from ONE ANGLE, taken in many rows and columns.

super rover,it out runs the dust storms that would sandblast it away and blur the lens and it manages to take a pic of its self without any dust on top of it..NASA did say mars has dust storms caused by the solar winds didn't they?
