I dont know why in this day and age, Landlords dont ban pets from the premises unless its a rental home with yard and even then, ive seen too many carpets destroyed.. A animal can do thousands of dollars worth of smelly damage when you add in irresponsible owners.

When I first started my career, I lived in an apartment for close to five (5) years. I can tell you first hand that human beings were never meant to live that close together. Go ask any police officer in your town where the most complaints and crimes occur and they will most always name an apartment complex or "projects".

My neighbors put little green bags of dogshit outside their doors. They pick it up and carry it up the stairs with them. They carry the shit in their hands further to put it outside their doors than they would carry it to put it in the dumpster or receptacle. And when they carry it to their door they don't flush it. They keep it so they can carry it away in the morning. Maybe they carry it to work with them. Or maybe they launder it in public laundries. Who knows?

All you can do is run the machine with hot water and bleach and cheap detergent before you use it. Don't use the dryer. Check freecycle for washer and dryer. Check rental prices. Make an arrangement to use a friends machines. You buy her brand of detergent and leave it with her. Be good company.

Buy a small washboard at the hardware store and do your underwear and shirts in the sink. Have less laundry. Buy fleece. It air dries fast.
Look for a clean laundromat.


You won't teach your neighbors. Management won't teach them either. One of the requirements for being an apartment manager is that you have to be really, really stupid. Not just low IQ. Brain damaged too. You have to be actively dumb, not passively dumb.

Yes. This. The first apartment that my husband and I moved into allowed cats and ick.. just ick. One lady's cat got out all the time and used to crap in the hall and hang out in the basement where the laundry was.

IMO, part of the problem is that many people were not shown how to do a lot of basic things growing up. I know a lot of people who had to find out the hard way how to do laundry, cook basic meals etc. This is stuff we need to know before leaving the nest. Of all the things my mom fucked up on, she did teach me what I needed to know to not live like a slob.

Hate to say it.. but this person made a good point. No matter how much you rant at the person who put the shit in the dryer, they won't learn. They don't care.

I did have one awesome apartment manager but yes.. the rest were actively dumb.
