Today I watched thousands of Geese flying to the North in V formation... Since I was a kid I watched them fly South... Something is really not right....... We have many "resident" Mallard ducks (and other species of ducks) and some Canadian geese who due to our relatively moderate winters are able to live here year round. However, in September, October, and November we usually see large numbers of Canadian geese traveling in V formation in traditional flyways all over Kentucky heading from north to south. From my perspective, I can say that I have seen very very few V formations of Canadian geese this year. Additionally, the V formations I have seen have had much fewer birds in them and the birds have been traveling in a whole gambit of directions, not just north to south. Something is definitely up with the Canadian geese population this year. |

I live on the western slope, for the past few years I have not seen any geese flying south, like somebody said, the flocks are smaller and I have seen them flying around like they are confused! This evening we heard a large number of birds in our backyard making pretty cool noises. We raise chickens and quail....the sounds were much different than our birds. My husband and son ran out back to check and it was a decent flock of geese just hanging out. It has been raining all day. Maybe they were trying to get out of the bad weather...? |

New Years Eve a bird we hear in the summer sang in the tree outside my window all night long in the dark. Usually we see very few birds in the winter but it's like a bird convention here this winter!
