That might not be enough to stop a determined attacker with one shot. Then again...looters/thieves tend to be cowards that run at the first sign of a victim fighting back. |

Quoting: Generation Doom good catch. a broad-head traveling at 350-400 fps does god-awful things to a person. specially if it hits the sternum or pelvis. |

To get a concealed carry permit you have to be well connected, rich or famous. Mayor Mikie is very much against guns. He doesn't want any citizens to own them. But he is surrounded by armed men 24/7. He is well protected all the time. The poor people in Queens don't have that luxury. This is typical class warfare. The elite in New York are always protected. the peseants not so much. |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 25676821 11/05/2012 07:55 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well, I read the whole article, and here's what I think: I think it is as bad (or worse) than you can imagine - unless you've been there. After Hurricane Charley came through our town, I slept with my 38 near me for several nights. The first night, my bil, and sister (who had evacuated to my house) thought I was being dramatic and it scared them for me to say I was carrying a loaded gun. HOWEVER, after reports that looters had gone into one of the only 3 grocery stores in our town (they probably tried to loot them all, I only heard of them being in one), bil and sis realized how volatile and dangerous the situation could become, and were glad at least SOMEONE was able to protect our "stuff." That being said, it is after all, only STUFF, and if someone with a * bigger gun * than mine were to come in and want something, I would probably give it up (maybe not, I don't know, it didn't happen). Next point: I don't believe the power co. in Rockaway is just sitting around playing checkers while people shiver in the cold and dark, laughing all the while about those dumb shits being without power. I believe the power co's are doing all they can to return power to as many people as possiblel as quickly as possible. But, I get the sense that Rockaway is a little off the beaten path - a little bit of a respite-type town, and quite a ways away from the hub of the action (NYC). If that is true, it wouldn't surprise me to find out that there are bigger cities getting worked on to return power sooner than Rockaway. Don't forget, Rockaway had TWO disasters. First came the hurricane, and flooding, and THEN that horrible, devastating fire. Double whammy. There are a lot of logistics that need to be ironed out in order to return "normalcy" to them. We live in a small town of 7,000. Several small towns in the middle of FL were hit by Charley, and really only 1 or 2 larger cities. First was Ft. Myers/Port Charlotte - and they only have a combined population of about 360,000. After barreling through our small towns (about 4 or 5 of them), it went through orlando. You know there are plenty of people there, but NOT more than 1-2 million. I can't even IMAGINE what it would take to restore power for SEVERAL MILLION! And in our instance, we were still without power for 10 days, and some people in our county - in the outlying areas - were without power for longer than that. As to the IDIOT on here who is all macho - the points on his arrow wouldnt' do a thing: I say this: YOU DO WHAT YOU CAN WITH WHAT YOU'VE GOT. The guy with the bow and arrows is sending a message, and I'm sure it would be heard loud and clear. |

Now, where I am I have more firepower to bring to bear on a situation than did, probably, a squad of WW2 marines. Anybody messes here had best have their affairs in order. |
