The reason it did was do to growth on the other side of town thanks to walmart moving in. It had nothing to do with the economy except the cheaper prices at walmart. People are sick and tired of the high prices of malls, that's all. |

This latest proposal would retain the J.C. Penney and Lowe's stores, with the Regal Cinema also remaining for a minimum of two years. Pending approval, demolition of the mall would be completed by December 2012, with construction beginning sometime in the spring of 2013.[8]" [link to en.wikipedia.org] |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 26643085 11/05/2012 05:00 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You almost had me. Looked on Google maps found Walmart, Target, Sam's club that is booming not far from this mall. This is what these stores do to your communities. We all have this story. Welcome to the club! Quoting: Lorax Noooooo, it wasn't a "trick." You almost had me? What a super sleuth! Let me get this straight, you missed the entire point of this posting because of Walmart, Target and Sam's Club? Hey dummy - we had WalMart Target AND Sam's Club here years ago and the smaller businesses around me STILL thrived. PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE ENUF $$ TO GO ANYWHERE ELSE NOW. Yeah, I know, some idiot on here, after reading my pleading of poverty and losing my job, told to "go to WalMart." The existance of those stores in the area in NO WAY negates the point that people did not have disposable income to sustain the stores that were lost. No disposable income because of lower wages, higher taxes, higher health care premiums, higher gas and utility - oh for God's sake - USE YOUR HEAD! You people really piss me of with your stupidity. Big chain stores, big oil, big coal whine whine whine. Always an excuse. Ok, I'll be nice since your only about 20 years old. This "No disposable income because of lower wages, higher taxes, higher health care premiums, higher gas and utility" was started by your fucking president Ronald Regan call Free Trade. The Middle class CHINA Syndrome! It went down hill since china bombard us with low price goods. Everyone and your mom and dad fell for it, to have more money left from there pay check. Is it all connected? Absolutely! Just like were connected to Neanderthals. One way of battling china was to buy bulk and Walton did just that in a grand way. Then the fucker stocked his shelf's with china shit. I wouldn't put a store in that mall if they paid me. It's to far from Walmart! Since nobody has a union (destroyed by Regan) at work to get good wages. They have to go to Walmart. Do your homework Kid! [link to www.politicususa.com] |

Local towns here in the UK have been decimated by out of town retail parks which are very popular. However when the Petrol Price rockets again well probably see a turnaround. People have little disposable income because of Gas and energy prices here. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 4420825 11/05/2012 06:35 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well, here is one for you. For the last 8 years I've had kids in marching band. Most of the contests are in a city 70 miles from home. We go to state finals every year (this year we got third). On the way home, the band and most of the parents that were at the contest stop at a certain rest stop. The kids get fed and we do some picture taking etc. We do this on the same weekend every year. I know, get to the point. Point: every time we stop, the buses park back with the semis. Every year its a tight fight for 5 buses and a couple trailers for equipment to find in with the semis. This year: the whold damne thing open. Only one semi setting there along the site. It was effing bizaar! Makes me wonder whats up because that stuff, shipping, doesn't pay much attention to politics or weather. They just drive. What could be the source or it? Even in '08 and '09 there wasn't any noticeable difference. But, this year, damn! semi parks were vacant. The 5 buses just rolled right in. I think thats the deal: we're about to collapse. After the election... BOOM! |

Before it had lots of shops, a couple of department stores and there were many people shopping. Now most of the stores are shut down, the best department store there is gone, and now there are lots of military recruiting spots where there were once stores. Also there are a lot of gang types skulking around there now instead of regular people shopping. |

It has more to do with under population, and saturation, than it does the economy. What happens is, they build a new mall closer to the new developments. The people that use to go to the old mall, go to the new mall, then the old mall starts to become a ghost town. The probolem is out building the demand. I hope no of you have an economics degree, because it should be taken away (I do not have one, I have a degree in physics). |
