PROOF of a economic MELTDOWN in my area!

We had a mall similar to yours fail, it to ended up in disarray. The reason it did was do to growth on the other side of town thanks to walmart moving in. It had nothing to do with the economy except the cheaper prices at walmart. People are sick and tired of the high prices of malls, that's all.

Local towns here in the UK have been decimated by out of town retail parks which are very popular.

However when the Petrol Price rockets again well probably see a turnaround.


People have little disposable income because of Gas and energy prices here.

Recovery my ass

Well, here is one for you. For the last 8 years I've had kids in marching band. Most of the contests are in a city 70 miles from home. We go to state finals every year (this year we got third). On the way home, the band and most of the parents that were at the contest stop at a certain rest stop. The kids get fed and we do some picture taking etc. We do this on the same weekend every year.

I know, get to the point.

Point: every time we stop, the buses park back with the semis. Every year its a tight fight for 5 buses and a couple trailers for equipment to find in with the semis.

This year: the whold damne thing open. Only one semi setting there along the site. It was effing bizaar! Makes me wonder whats up because that stuff, shipping, doesn't pay much attention to politics or weather. They just drive.

What could be the source or it? Even in '08 and '09 there wasn't any noticeable difference. But, this year, damn! semi parks were vacant. The 5 buses just rolled right in. I think thats the deal: we're about to collapse. After the election... BOOM!

I was really struck by a mall in Anchorage I went to about ten years ago then went back recently.

Before it had lots of shops, a couple of department stores and there were many people shopping.

Now most of the stores are shut down, the best department store there is gone, and now there are lots of military recruiting spots where there were once stores.

Also there are a lot of gang types skulking around there now instead of regular people shopping.

you can go to the sawgrass mills mall ANY day of the week at ANY time of the day or night and the place is packed here in broward county, fl.

same with the galleria mall in ft laud. but then there is so much dough here and people from all over the world come here and spend it and enjoy the best weather in the world.

Its called sprawl. It has more to do with under population, and saturation, than it does the economy.

What happens is, they build a new mall closer to the new developments. The people that use to go to the old mall, go to the new mall, then the old mall starts to become a ghost town.

The probolem is out building the demand. I hope no of you have an economics degree, because it should be taken away (I do not have one, I have a degree in physics).
