PROOF of a economic MELTDOWN in my area! | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1331439 United States 11/05/2012 01:10 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Latham Circle Mall was opened in 1957 as an open-air plaza called Latham Corners Shopping Center[2] before being converted into an enclosed mall in 1977. The new mall featured a JCPenney (which stayed over from the original strip), Woolworth, and Boston Store as anchors. The mall was expanded in 1988 to include a Caldor, a new JCPenney store to replace the old one and a second level which would house the ten screen movie theater. The two level space occupied by The Boston Store closed in the late 1980s, however, due to a fire. The store closed for remodeling and was replaced by Burlington Coat Factory in the early 1990s. Woolworth closed in 1995 and was replaced in 1998 with Stein Mart, which subsequently closed in 2001. Also, Caldor closed in early 1999 when the chain went out of business. The Caldor wing was finally demolished in 2003 for a Lowe's which does not open out to the mall. Many other tenants began to leave during the 2000s, leaving Latham Circle as a dead mall. In February 2010, owners of the mall have been in talks with a major retailer to occupy the open space, which subsequently did not happen. In May 2012, Burlington Coat Factory closed leaving Regal Cinema and J.C. Penney.[3] |

I work at a mall and that shit is always loaded with people, they just don't stop coming in. Doesn't seem like there's anything wrong at all. anywhere. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17081156 Depends on your geographic location. Mall near me is only open for one reason; the movie theater. Other than that, it's a ghost town and has been for almost 8 years. "What you have just said, is the most insanely idiotic thing I have ever heard. At no point, in your rambling incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul." |

If you're gonna talk shit at least know what you're talking about. Moron. If it did not close and is being remodeled...where is the economic meltdown...in them having enough money to remodel it? Show us a video from now...not something re-uploaded from some other time months back. I don't disagree with the video, but I don't agree with it either. I have seen many things that are showing a "meltdown", but meltdown to me sounds quick...quick and effortless. Meltdown has to be the wrong word. This seems planned and it is planned so on the spot...so that we can slowly suffocate. Great Vid, but maybe something recent...so that it does not seem like you are just trying to force feed the conspiracy sheep. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 26980107 United States 11/05/2012 01:42 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Here's a video I made, it's of a local mall that resembles a ghost town. Show this to anyone that claims "everythings ok" and "the economy is coming back" Quoting: Nonfictiontube Subscribe for more reality. Feedback welcome, Thanks My area has already had two malls close down completely. Plus a giant shopping area anchored by Sears just disappeared. And I'm in an area where the economy is pretty good. I think online shopping is killing brick-and-mortar. Plus too many malls got built and it's consolidating around one or two instead 5, that kind of thing. Best part of your video was how the music was still playing. Gave it an air of creepiness. Good work! What is your area? Malls in my area don't look like this. They aren't bustling quite like they were ten years ago but still doing OK. Ten years ago, the mall in the video (Latham Circle Mall) was already dying: [link to en.wikipedia.org] Not sure what the local economic trends are there, but they are long term trends that are killing this mall. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 20926074 United States 11/05/2012 02:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I thought of doing this on my route from work - before I lost my job. I don't have video though, I could only take pics. Then I thought, after seeing all the idiots on GLP, that people would say "oh, you picked and chose where to get a pic of, that doesn't mean anything." I still might do it. The idea came to me after going to KFC for lunch one day and seeing it boarded up the next. I passed store fronts and gas stations literally with plywood on the front and then graffitti. The only NEW businesses that moved in? A psychic, an occult store, and a tatoo parlour. What does THAT tell you about America? Long standing businesses and restaurants are GONE. My town looks NOTHING like it did 4 years ago. For God's sake, businesses that survived the DEPRESSION have gone under across the country! I cannot imagine anyone dumb enuf to vote for Obama. I try to have a Christian attitude, but a part of me thinks we should round them up and ship them to some island where they can be cared for by people who CAN make decisions. And never, ever let them off. |

Quoting: Lorax Noooooo, it wasn't a "trick." You almost had me? What a super sleuth! Let me get this straight, you missed the entire point of this posting because of Walmart, Target and Sam's Club? Hey dummy - we had WalMart Target AND Sam's Club here years ago and the smaller businesses around me STILL thrived. PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE ENUF $$ TO GO ANYWHERE ELSE NOW. Yeah, I know, some idiot on here, after reading my pleading of poverty and losing my job, told to "go to WalMart." The existance of those stores in the area in NO WAY negates the point that people did not have disposable income to sustain the stores that were lost. No disposable income because of lower wages, higher taxes, higher health care premiums, higher gas and utility - oh for God's sake - USE YOUR HEAD! You people really piss me of with your stupidity. Big chain stores, big oil, big coal whine whine whine. Always an excuse. |

Look, USE YOUR HEAD...You word off without taking account it is possible when getting plans to have the building remodeled...The Owners of the Mall came by each store and said "HEY, WE ARE RECONSTRUCTING...PLAN AHEAD OF TIME TO CLOSE DOWN WHILE THE BLUEPRINTS ARE BEING FINISHED." I bet they ended up having enough time to have sales, move items, completely move over to a new location and start once again till this mall completed its plans. Stop over reading into every generic bit of information, because it fits the puzzle. This is what I mean by don't feed the conspiracy sheep. You tell them, OMG! Mall closing! Everyone starts a mad panic of "ITS THIS DAMN ECONOMY" only to have 3 weeks later a posting of "PLANS TO RE-CREATE OUR TOWNS MALL". My nearby mall Sunday-Tuesday...EMPTY - STORE CLOSED - LOOKS LIKE A GHOST TOWN. Wensday - Saturday. People start rolling in and money starts flying...Week later, Mall get's a new store, some new sales, some new fancy paint. Everyone in this city talks about how boring that mall is...come the weekend though, like I said...it is Teenager Territory. |

Stop and ask yourself... What would anyone gain by making this video and sharing it with you? Hell, people are so fuckin stupid they can't even fucking figure out where he's at and he TELLS YOU at least three times and you even see the mall LOGO at one point in the video... I thought people were pretty stupid on GLP, but I'm now realizing they are far beyond stupid... No words describe the level of retardation in this thread. It's usually due to poor planning, poor management, or larger mega-malls opening close to the area post-construction. Here's an example from the 80's and 90's in my area. Look at the pictures and they are much worse. [link to www.labelscar.com] |
