It is truly inevitable ... Also add the lack of fire and police presence in these and the stimulant of building full of fast burning kindle set ablaze inadvertently by those unaccustomed to the presence of open flame bumping into a candle setting a curtain .... The rest is history and it could pan out to be one for the books ...
The sights of bodies blazing in the streets drenched in the black blood (oil) of the earth ignites the flames that light and enlighten the dark streets and closed eyes to the beginning of what is in fact a New beginning and a New order of command can and will be established .

The word needs to get out to these people: Do NOT light fires in an effort to stay warm.

I wish I could tell you a better alternative. But if you succumb to this instinct the potential for disater is off the charts.

Please seek refuge from the oncoming storm in a heating center. I know it's an awful thought but you could be in danger far greater than the hurricane.

We have yet to realize the impact of Sandy....with another storm looming the area....the set up for massive casualties are ripe.

And incidently, I believe that this may be the vision that Pastor David Wilkerson foresaw before his death a couple of years ago.

Morbid speculation seems a popular hobby amongst bible-thumpers, but it's not surprising considering how your whole religion is based on death and suffering, and the god in your bible is an ego-maniac psychopath!

My morbid speculation was made in hopes that people will think twice about lighting fires.

I would think God is happy that people are trying to help other people who may not be thinking logically at the moment while they're in shock over their current situation.

Lite a fire, just be careful. Best place would be in the street, of course...

With all the flowery speeches that Obama and Bloomberg have given (while people are standing there cold, starving, and thirsty) they have never mentioned a commonsense warning such as this.

This whole Sandy fiasco just underlines the stupidity and uselessness of "Big Government". They had SEVERAL days to set the rescue efforts in motion; what about all those Military "emergency drills" which have been happening all up and down the East Coast? And what happened to all of the food and supplies, supposedly for an upcoming emergency, which were commandeered by the gov't (along with all those millions of hollow-point bullets)? I remember several posters reporting that their orders for survival food were being held up because the warehouses were empty.

And when Katrina happened, the people affected were already blaming Bush ONE DAY after it happened. Is anyone blaming Obama? Thought not. All Sandy has meant for him is a great 10-minute photo op, looking all "presidential" and shit, after which he took off to go campaigning somewhere (probably after enjoying a sumptuous lobster dinner complete with imported wine).

I thought the whole concept of FEMA was to have everything in place so that WHEN a disaster happened (not "IF") they could spring into action in order to immediately alleviate the effects of the devastation. Instead, FEMA has come off looking like it is directed and staffed by the Keystone Kops or the Marx Brothers. If it weren't so tragically horrific it would be funny.

So, a lesson for America: when TSHTF, don't even bother to hope that the Government/FEMA/Red Cross will ride in to save the day. You (and your neighbors) will be entirely on your own, and in fact when they finally DO show up it will be to round you up and prevent you from even staying with your homes, property, and possessions - or what's left of them.

Technology has made us lazy.

It's too bad someone didn't think of this scenario. For light the city could distribute flashlights to everyone.
