When someone passes, the family has the ability to order as many copies of the death certificates as they want. Usually the family needs them to take care of the deceased persons financial responsibilities. When my mother in law passed, we order 10. We could not even have her utilities turned off without it. Quoting: Deb1964 You are correct. We did the same. People who believe 1 death = 1 death certificate obviously have not been through the process of wrapping up someone's affairs. Actually if, you take a average of 5 certificated ordered per death, the number actually seems low. Move along, nothing to see here. |

I can see why the number of death dertificates ordered seems like a large number, but as others have posted, each death can require as many as 20 or more death certificates in order to close out bank accounts and to satisfy life insurance requirements which all require an original certificate. Now, on with your death certificate doom. Ignorance is bliss until reality bites you in the ass. I take care of the dead...always. |

Quoting: Deb1964 You're almost right, there. Usually when someone passes, the funeral director in charge of the person's business will give the family 5 DC's (death certs), for reasons such as that. Bills, lawyers, etc. You don't "order" them, but it is true that you can obtain extras for whatever the case may be, at a set price. Being that I'm in the business, I don't know what to make of all these cert orders. Could be business as usual, could not. All I know is I really think something shitty is going to happen in LA, but we all have to wait and see. "Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid."
