I crave meat too but I don´t eat it...there are some very tasty alternatives, you just have to look some more. But if you really can´t resist the craving, just have a very tiny piece of meat...don´t just say "fuck it" and stuff your face with dead animals...Good luck! |

You will no longer want to kill them, chop them up into little pieces, cook and eat them. It's pretty cool when you start to know a cow's individual personality. Anonymous Coward User ID: 3737813 United States 06/30/2013 11:42 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Went to Hawaii for my high school spring break (2004), attended a PETA conference, and swore off meat. I managed to be vegan for about a week, then passed a Burger King and did a U-Turn to stop for chicken fries. *sigh* I grew up in a single mom household-and she's a vegetarian. Now that I'm all grown up I eat meat on a weekly basis. If you're looking for a meat substitute, try Morningstar products. I'm not a fan of their burgers (tho my veggie friends like them), but the sausage and chicken patties taste pretty darn good. In Hawaii there was a deli/supermarket ('Down Beyond Earth', I think) that took slices of tofu rolled in Mrs. Dash and baked them to the crispiness of nuggets- mmmmmmmmmm. And don't knock tofu! There's a lot of meat eaters who turn their noses up at it- it's a really good source of protein and can be blended into soups or chopped up and thrown into pasta sauce. It's supposed to take the flavor of whatever you're cooking. You could try a once-a-week meat fest...and you wrote 'I know the animals suffer' but there's no need to have to eat KFC or Tyson meat- check with your local food co-op. Most have beef or chicken shares where the meat is organic and animal killed humanely. At least you'll feel better about eating it! |

Quoting: valenn how do you vegers cope with the temptation? I know the animals suffer... but FUCK! You're just not ready to become one. I have been in your position, OP, and I couldn't fully commit until it really hit me at the level of my soul that this was what I truly needed and wanted. The needless suffering of animals struck me one day with such force that I sobbed all day. I haven't eaten meat since then and I have been a strict vegan for long enough now that I hardly notice or miss meat. When I see it, it's like looking at an inedible item, like tree bark. It's just not food, and what's more, it's like looking at human meat to me. In spite of this transformation I have not projected my veganism onto others, nor would I encourage you to become vegetarian. You aren't ready to do it, but you are conscious about what you eat. Eat consciously and in a way that does not make you uncomfortable, and when or if you are ready to become vegetarian or vegan, you will find the transition very easy and you won't look back. Another anecdote, if it helps-- I was vegetarian (eggs and milk products) until I found a ROUNDWORM in my POACHED EGG. I was so incredibly grossed out that if I even smell eggs now I want to vomit. When you are ready it will be easy. Until then don't condemn yourself for not being ready to make the transition. Hang in there! |
CitizenX1 User ID: 40577204 United States 06/30/2013 10:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is a tough one for me. I have seen what goes on in slaughterhouses, I feel sorry for the animals and what happens to them. I know about the test tube chickens they use for fast food like KFC, McD, and the like. I know about the cancer risks in red meat. Hormones and the like.... etc. But when I see a nice big juicy steak in front of me, like a delicious filet mignon, or New York, or rib roast.... man. My mouth starts salivating and all I can think of is just sinking my teeth into them. DOOM! always near, never here. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24942232 dont forget. you are craving more than just the taste of meat. meat is prepared and seasoned to taste "nice" real meat, uncoocked and unprepared meat is revolting. would you see a carcass on the side of the road and think, hmm yummy!? you cant eat meat uncooked. your intestine is not designed for meat. you can get all you protiens, minerals from a plant diet meat and diary increase the risk of cancer. when eating meat you take in the adrenaline and fear of the animal slaughter houses are the 2nd contributer to "global warming" if we stop eating meat we will end global food shortages compassion for animals? our teeth are designed for eating a plant based diet. and just because something tastes good doesnt justify it to be eaten. you wouldnt eat human would you. or dog? where do you draw the line? guys if you study hard enough you will see that this, just like every other aspect of society, is corrupt. its a money making scheme to make people ill and unhealthy. look around, theres a KFC and macdonalds on every corner. people are fat and unhealthy and cancer rates are off the chart. so why do people still eat meat? brainwashed what a load of bollocks! we are not designed to be vegitarians, we are, and always have been, omnivores. a balanced diet is part of our natural make-up - lots of plants, but also some meat for protein. veggies have to go all out to replace what they don't get from meat. this is not to excuse the inhumane treatment of animals for food. one thing does not equal the other. tell our cavemen ancenstors that they shouldn't have eaten any meat. if you want to be a veggy, it's up to you. but don't shove it down everybody else's throats. (and btw, raw meat, well seasoned, is yumm) to the OP... veggy or not, stop eating fucking burgers. |

Quoting: valenn how do you vegers cope with the temptation? I know the animals suffer... but FUCK! You could purchase meat that isn't mass produced in a slaughterhouse. I'm a huge animal advocate but I also recognize that our bodies were built to digest animal protein. So I buy meat from local farms. Soy is a natural testosterone killer, plus it will give you man boobs. :smokin1: |

Quoting: valenn how do you vegers cope with the temptation? I know the animals suffer... but FUCK! If all you worry about is animal suffering but your meat locally and ask them how they harvest the animal. Animals don't have to suffer to feed us and most local farms treat their cattle good. It's all about moderation of meat to veggie ratio. |

But I don't see what is wrong with eating burgers, as long as the meat is grass-fed. 1) We have K9 teeth for eating meat 2) our stomachs create enzymes specifically for digesting animal protein. Any vegan or vegetarian I've seen is scrawny and weak. You need to eat muscle to build it. If you choose to be vegan then fine, but don't you dare think for a second that our bodies don't need meat or aren't designed for it. That theory has been debunked 1000 times and back. :smokin1: |

Just look at the animal on your plate that you are about to eat and repeat "dead animal" several times. Have you ever been driving down the highway behind a truck hauling dead cows , watching their legs bounce around when the truck hits a bump in the road? Or behind one of those truck hauling chickens in open cages cramped together off to be slaughtered, their feathers flying everywhere? It really is not a temptation for me to eat animals. I haven't for over 30 years. Not an option. |
