One thing you learn to do when you live on a farm or ranch is improvise. I would imagine this guy would've bought REGULATION gas cans if they had been available, after all they aren't that much more expensive than paint buckets, but perhaps with the situation being what it was, they weren't available...I mean have you seen the pictures of people lined up at gas stations with gas cans in hand!!! And many of those gas cans look brand spanking new, so I bet the store was out of REGULATION gas cans...

You have no idea what you're saying.

First of all, there are no gas cans to be found ANYWHERE, even around Boston. I work with people calling me all day asking for gas cans and I can't find them anywhere.

Why? Because all the stores and Home Depots can't find them anywhere.

Why? Because the warehouses that supply this area are in NY/NJ you fucking fool. YOU CANNOT FIND A GAS CAN AT A STORE RIGHT NOW.

On top of that, go fill a gas can shake it all around and tell me if it leaks. If it leaks, there's a vent. If it doesn't leak, then there's no vent.

Guess what? It's not going to leak.

Why? Because there ARE NO GAS CANS WITH VENTS. WHY WOULD YOU VENT GASOLINE? THE VAPORS ARE MORE FLAMMABLE THAN THE LIQUID GAS ITSELF. THE IDEA IS TO SEAL OFF THESE VAPORS MORAN.

Also, the only law he was violating was that he didn't label the containers with "Contains gasoline: flammable liquid." Had he done just that we would't be reading this story tonight.

I dont belive he collected money from his neighbors for the gas. If they were out of gas they should have empty gas cans to give him not home depot buckets. I think he was going to sell the gas to desperate people for $25 a gallon. If they didnt catch him, He was probably going to lite a cigarette on the way home. As long as no one else got hurt it would have served him right to burn in hell.

I once saw an old guy pumping gas into a clorox jug and nothing was said to him by the station and another time I pulled up and a fool was leaning over filling a regulation gas can and puffing on a cigarette at the same time, needless to say I drove right off without stopping to get gas!

Besides the improper containers, he was driving thru blacked out areas without street or traffic lights....I seen numerous collisions thru Sandy...a accident with this guy would ave been quite the spectacle....

If his neighbors were out of gas for their generators wouldn't they have given him their empty gas cans instead of their home depot buckets?

I think he was going to sell it to stranded motorist for $50 a gallon.

The Police should have locked him in the van in a remote location with a pack of cigarets and a lighter.

The problem with 5 gallon buckets with lids is the vapor pressure from the gas will push off the lids and vent vapors, let alone being prone to spilling.
