Point being a USGS unmarked green van pulled up to a beach in fairhaven MA ... Two men one wearing a lime green jacket and one with a red one. Both marked USGS.

They used a bunch of rulers and measured a distance from the rock/clif point of the beach up to he Larkin lot also ... Then they took pictures and left I don't think the license plate was MA

And has anyone else see anything like this?

Walked up to where they were there is a huge metal stake nailed into the ground they spotted the top of the stake and grass area with a spray of orange spray paint and an orange tag on the stake

I used to be a land surveyor. I don't know, but if as the first poster says - there's issues with the cliffs holding up, this is almost exactly how we did it.

We'd concrete a wooden or metal spike into the ground, and measure the distance to the cliff edge on a weekly basis. They'll have measured back to the parking lot, or a manhole cover in the parking lot because they appear on Ordinance Survey Maps. That way they can mark up their drawing with the location of the peg in the ground for future reference.

69 mph winds are not to be sniffed at when it comes to cliffs.

I saw two NOAA vans full of crews in Delaware yesterday, staying at a local motel

They are most likely measuring high water marks. Common practice here in the coastal south. USGS has a large wster resources division.

Hey guys before you call bullshit you should know that on our Canadian Broadcasting channel the ticker tape said their was an earthquake In New Jersey or just off shore. It never said how big it was just a quick across the screen ticker tape thing about an earthquake.
