With the cold weather and people heating their apartments with their ovens, this could get out of hand quickly

how can an oven start a fire?

Doesn't take much for something to fall in to it if the door is open. Now imagine a whole apartment building full of open ovens. Add candles for light this evening, and this could get out of hand fast.

"fall" into an oven?

An oven is safer than a wood stove.

Putting a large pot of water in the oven will put moister in the air and make it seem a lot warmer.

Any iron pans you have could be in there holding the heat, which will make it less expensive to run the oven, as well as the hot water, and also there is your hot water for dish washing etc.

I only run the oven full time at a 200 degrees. Turning it up seems to make no difference. You can only get so much heat out of an oven and that is it. Putting pots of hot water on the top burners could drive the heat up, but i never did that because of children or animals in the house. Although i have used the top burners of a gas store for light to light up the kitchen, while i was right there watching it to cook and do the dishes etc.

At night be sure to close the oven door, but first take out the water, as it could go dry and ruin the pot you had the water in. Donot go above 200 at night.

Also thereis no wasted heat going up the cimney, so you get it all.

During the day, i leave the oven door on the catch: that is where the door is caught partially open. That way the stove holds heat, and acts as a radiator. The kitties like to gather around it.

Just keep all paper etc. away from the stove, and itis safe as any wood/coal stove, propane space heater, kerosene burner (actually safer than kerosene). The oven is even safer than an electric space heater.
The oven has been around since the beginning of man.
