I think I'm diabetic. Diabetctards please advise!
OK so my father in law just found out he's diabetic last month. He has the testing stuff so had him check my blood sugar. It was 323 and normal is between 90-115. The only flop about the test was it was after dinner but my wife checked hers as well and it was 116. I am really tired all the time and crave sweets a lot! never used to. I don't have insurance so not going in unless I really start to feel like crap. Any input from experience appreciated. peace

Sure sounds like it to me. That is very high. I check mine from time to time since my mom was type I, but it has never been nearly that high. Go see your doctor.

Re: I think I'm diabetic. Diabetctards please advise!
My mother was a three shot a day insulin dependent diabetic...and now she's completely cured.

All she did was put cinnamon in her coffee EVERY morning without fail. It took about 14 months...little by little her blood sugar came down down down...until she was finally able to stop taking her insulin all together.

She hasn't had a shot in about 7 months now...and her sugar stays level and low. She still takes her cinnamon daily.

My two cents.

Re: I think I'm diabetic. Diabetctards please advise!
the 90-115 is on the high side of normal

For most people it can vary between 75- 100mg/dl

A fasting blood glucose level (at least 8 hours) above 126mg/dl is considered to be diabetic

Postprandial (2 hours after eating) should be under 180mg/dl

A random reading taken at any time should be less than 200mg/dl

Re: I think I'm diabetic. Diabetctards please advise!
I'm diabetic, and yes, that's high. What will really tell the tale is a blood test that will give you your last 3 months' average HA1C (average blood sugar value for the last 3 months). But given that reading, I'd put money on you being a type II diabetic.

If you don't have insurance, there are patient assistance programs available. You will need to be diagnosed first, of course. Check with your county health dept.; they should be able to give you some options.

In the mean time, the following will help lower your blood sugar:

1) Cut out all simple carbohydrates. This includes almost all sugars (obviously), potatoes, and refined white flour, including "enriched".

2) Eat carbs that are complex. This includes whole grain bread (check ingredient label: if the first words are not "whole" or "stone ground whole" then it's not whole grain, regardless of what it may say elsewhere on the package) and non-starchy vegetables.

3) Most fruits should be off-limits at least for the time being, but strawberries and blueberries are okay, provided you do NOT sweeten them with sugar (try Stevia instead). The natural fruit sugars in strawberries and blueberries are nearly indigestible and will have practically no effect on your blood sugar.

4) Eat more protein and avoid excess fats. Beware of "low fat" and "fat free" products, though; check the ingredients and compare it to the regular version. Very often the "fat-free" version has more sugar than the regular version. In a case like that, stick with the regular version.

5) There are some natural things that help balance blood sugar. Believe it or not, plain ol' cinnamon is one of them, but you'll need a LOT more than what you might sprinkle on your oatmeal. Chromium is a trace element that helps, too. Many health food stores will have cinnamon + chromium already made into capsules for ease of swallowing.

5) Treat this one with caution! Alcohol will scrub sugar out of the blood stream, and the higher proof it is, the more effective it is. A shot or two of straight vodka is what I use when I need to bring my blood sugar down in a hurry. I probably shouldn't have to say this, but I will anyway: do NOT rely on this to keep your blood sugar down in place of actual treatment! You don't want to add alcoholism to your problems.

There's a lot of good information online; a Google search will give you a lot. And I also recommend checking out Earth Clinic; lots of good, natural advice there.

The atkins diet is your friend. Give up all white bread, potatoes, rice, and sugar.

I know that many will tell you to use artificial sweeteners, but avoid these like the plague. These will actually raise your blood sugar.

Hope you like green vegetables and meat, because that's all you should be eating.

It wouldn't hurt to get a lot more exercise. Don't go nuts and train for a marathon, just take up walking and do lots of it.

Check out cinnamon and chromium picolinate combination....

I'm looking into this myself right now as my doc suspects I'm diabetic and we're waiting for the results of the blood tests....

So far, cinnamon and chromium supplements look a whole lot better and cheaper than drugs and shots....so I'm going to try those as well as the meds to see if they really do what the research says they do for reversing blood sugar issues....my hope is that the meds won't be necessary, but I'm not letting go of my doctor's advice or treatments to try it....

Good luck, OP.

Just be aware that when you lower your carb intake, your hair will fall out. Seriously.
There were some links to Diabetes and hydrogenated fats. Theory out there if you cut those out of your diet for at least 6 months that will take care of it. Check your labels, it is in everything.

Good advice. My daughter is T1D and she barely requires insulin on the Paleo diet. The key is to eliminate grains especially wheat and eat low carb overall

Re: I think I'm diabetic. Diabetctards please advise!
I was diagnosed with diabetes 12 years ago. I have been taking insulin for 9 years. Pills in the am a shot at night. It has been a little difficult, but it has forced me to be more healthy. My weight is normal and I look and feel younger than my age, 51 years last week. The key, in my opinion is limit your carbohydrate intake. Eat protein and never drink any soda, diet or hi calorie. I drink low carb beer and drink water, tea and coffee. I eat well and am probably healthier than I was 15 years ago.

Really? Mine didn't, and my carb intake dropped like a stone after I was diagnosed.

(I was diagnosed on Friday of the same week as 9/11... definitely NOT a good week.)

The hair thinning is a real problem. (I am female). I used to slice and dice every carb I could, (with low fiber counts), and now I don't, where it fell out is growing back in. My ex boss - could see her scalp.

One word: sauerkraut. Find a good, natural brand that is crispy, and not oversalted. Icy Mountain is a good one. Eat it raw, or cooked. Actually most any fermented vegetables work at some extent.

Diabetes is not an illness, it is a temporary condition.

reduce your calorie intake, plenty on the web about it, may take a month yet it will kickstart your pancreas.

You will feel exhausted, find a doc who knows this remedy, there are a few about these days.

Good luck.

I am 37 and not overweight at all but I admit I eat like crap and drink a big gulp usually daily. I read somewhere also fasting can cure diabetes as well? Gonna start the cinnamon right away. I'm not crazy thirsty all the time nor do I have to urinate frequently. I think I will have some blood drawn at least to see where I am. Thanks for all the helpful replies!

Just retested without eating. Score is 87! I'm so relieved now, gonna test it again just for safe measure. I also drank a gallon of distilled water for 3 days before testing. Did the research so for anyone with the disease it is totally curable (not saying I had it) but big pharma loves diabetes!

Cut your fat intake, especially during a meal that's higher in carbs, and start drinking Green Smoothies.

Eliminate processed sugars.

The sticky fat coats insulin molecules making them harder to attach to sugar molecules to drive them into your cells.
