Thunderstorms blazing in NSW until Saturday
November 6 2012

thunderstorms hit southwestern Sydney, but these were only a taste of what is to come for New South Wales this week.

Tuesday morning thunderstorms kicked off over central New South Wales between Bourke and Griffith

Storms will spread across southern and western NSW

Wednesday the trough will trigger thunderstorms from Bourke to the South Coast, with the heaviest falls likely on...
the Blue Mountains.

On Thursday the trough will trigger storms as far north as the Hunter as far south as the Victorian border

Friday the trough will begin to move a bit quicker and become more defined

These storms have the potential to become severe with flash flooding and large hail a risk with some storms.

Severe thunderstorms unleashed on SA
November 6, 2012

Thunderstorms blazed from Tasmania to the WA Kimberley last night in a fiery display of nature's power.

Thunderstorms have dominated South Australia's weather for the past two days with over 100 000 lightning strikes.

On Monday afternoon and evening a line of storms developed along a low pressure trough which stretched over 3000km from Tasmania to northern parts of Western Australia.

However the focus of the severe storms was in South Australia where almost every location experienced lightning.

There were almost 30 000 lightning strikes within 200km of Adelaide

Many enjoyed the frequent flashes of lightning in the night sky, however these strikes left some people in the dark.

Lightning strikes and wind gusts of up to about 90km/h caused damage to powerlines, leaving tens of thousands without power.

Lightning also caused many grass fires across the state.

Thousands without power after SA storms
Tuesday November 6, 2012

It could be another day before power is restored to all affected properties across South Australia

Wind gusts of up to 96 kilometres per hour brought down trees and powerlines, cutting electricity to more than 80,000 properties.

storms affected Adelaide, Eyre and Yorke Peninsula, the mid-north and Kangaroo Island.

"It's been really violent storms. It's left damage across the network from the far west coast, Ceduna, right through the city and into the hills and beyond,"

Re: thunder down under!
I remember childhoods days, on a station 80kms west of Bourke - the red dirt the roads that go forever, a dance at the townhall in Yantabulla such a big deal. Reading Henry Lawson and Banjo Patterson, witnessing the slaughter of animals and the stench of blood under the blazing hot sun. And the storms the thunder roars across flat plains like no other sound. The first time shown how to shoot and kill a rabbit - which I could not do. Opps sorry Xen,so easy to conjure thoughts of long ago , today.

I live on ANZAC HWY. There was a massive crack in the sky around 8pm last night and knocked out several blocks without power for a few hours.

Re: thunder down under!
been raining off and on in melbourne today, getting heavier now

was looking at the hourly rainfall around adelaide last night

was strange, a few areas received over 40mm in 1hr yet the areas directly adjacent only had 0.5-3mm at the same time
