I want to start a religion. how do I do it, legally?

First thing you need is a messiah..what can you do for me,lets talk.

I can save your soul when you die. Saving it from negative entities and from random reincarnation.

I can grant you entrance into heaven when you die.

I can save the souls of your loved ones.

I can give your life purpose and hope.

I can give you a strong community and social life.

I can give you knowledge that allows you to utilize your own energy more efficiently, thereby increasing your personal power.

You're going about this all wrong. First you need to incorporate as a church with a 501C3. Then all you do is find a meeting place that is either offered free of very low priced.

Then you put out a sign and invite everyone to come.

Once they begin to attend your "special" and "only true church" you easily convince them that this message is vital and that "god" needs funds to do this.

Now you're home free........no more taxes for you, 'cause all you need are living expenses. The gullible people will come and see you as the messenger for the world.

Lo, and behold.......you've just started your own religion and with just a little luck you will prosper in the process.

Don't bother. From your writing I can already tell you're too weak-minded to establish anything other than a retirement house.

Start writing a book. You know what kind of book I'm talking about right.

Well you could find some tablets that only you can read with the help of an angel. You can promise eternal life on your own planet with your multiple wives and an infinite number of spirit children. You can steal mason rituals and call them your own....oh wait that one is taken.

On a 2nd thought build a temple and they WILL come.

That's right, a Messiah is what you need. A couple used ones are probably to be had. You would need to accept some class-warfare rhetoric, spouse, kids and dog also; it's a package.

Five is all you need for it to be recognized. You'll get tax exemption too which is a plus. Lay out the basis of the religion with some core beliefs, do's and dont's and see where it goes.
Whatever it is it can't be any worse than what's going around already!

Already wrote a book. But it has a lot of philosophy and science in it. The first half is pretty much instructions on how to determine if something is credible. Pretty hard for average Americans to follow.

I've found that most people don't want to know why it's true. They want an intelligent person they trust to do the thinking for them, and tell them that it is true. Kind of like getting a mechanic to take a look at a car and tell you if you should buy it or not.

The average person doesn't know the difference between a radiator and a carburetor. So they just try to find a mechanic they trust, and they go with his advice.

Most Christians have never read the bible, much less thought about it.

The key to salvation is working for the survival of the church, as it is the church that will save your soul.

Just like you contribute to your society and friends and loved ones, as they are the ones who help you when you cannot help yourself.

It's all kind of simple really. Takes a whole lot of brainwashing to blind people to the truth.

Hey, thanks for the informative post. The democrat party is a great example of a modern religion that has managed to call itself something else. It has devils, prophets, dogma, true believers, people it would like to burn at the stake. OP, do you have those all figured out yet? Ask the poster above for more detail.

The more fantasy bullshit you include the more chance it has of going somewhere. People don't want science or reality!
They want angels, demons, wars, plagues, miracles, heaven and hell'and one massive fucking fireworks show at the end of the soap opera.

You are describing a 'society.' All societies have those.

All societies have goals. All societies have enemies. All societies have rules. Leaders. Traditions. Symbols.

A church is a society based on the idea/knowledge that life goes on after death.

We intend to influence politics as much as possible. Just as every other major religion does, despite what they say.

I've been looking and looking. I guess there isn't any real legal way to declare a religion. Weird. Seems like such an important thing.

It takes nothing whatever to be a religion except you, yours (if any), and God.

Imo, if you're not already a religion, then becoming one just to influence politics would dilute your message, whatever it is. Does that make sense?

If you claim to be a religion, I guarantee you will be a magnet for hopeful, thoughtful people who want to help others and seek betterment for themselves.

But if you're all about politics, and want to use religion as a vehicle to advance politics but ignore the kinds of things people *seek* in a religion, then you will stand out like a bunch of political activists disguised in face paint. And people may laugh (a lot) at those. But clowns sometimes cry, and if you do, then THAT'S when you may *get religion* in the best sense.

Imo, it is a personally traumatic event in a person's life that makes him/her seek religion, see through the veneer of ritual and dogma, and really start looking for God.
