USMC requires males to be able to do 3 pull ups...... 3?? | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 18260563 United States 11/06/2012 12:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | That is the minimum. I am fairly thin/athletic and guys built like me can slam out pull ups. One of my best friends is an ogre of a man, 6'5", 260lbs, he is pulling a LOT more weight than I am. I doubt he could do more than 3. But at the end of the day he could dead lift circles around someone with my build. Yes pull ups are important. Yes, after conditioning you better be able to do more than 3. But I can see 3 as a minimum requirement. Only doing 3 doesn't mean your not strong. I don't think I could do 3 with 80-100 lbs on my back. Just trying to give an alternative prospective. |
AFGW User ID: 21140569 United States 11/06/2012 12:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It used to be that they had to do at least 7 (kipping allowed), but that was when males and females had different PFT's (physical fitness test). Females used to be required to do a chin-up for as long as they could, a minimum of 11 seconds. Now that females have to run the same exact PFT as the guys, they had to alter the test in order to be fair, so the minimum requirement for pullups was reduced to three...dead hang, absolutely no kipping. As a female Marine, I saw only three females that could do three dead hang pullups...and I'll tell you what...those chicks were BUTCH...and just built like a guy. Even in my best shape, I couldn't do more than 1 dead hang pull-up. Female Marines should still have a sense of femininity in my opinion...the female recruitment and retainment lately must be as low as it can get. |

It may just have been a bad group I was with. But If I had my choice, I'd rather have an army ranger, SEAL, or regular army infantry with me. Too many bad experiences. All the marines I met just never shut up about how great they were, and that is always a bad sign. It's like when guys try to tell you how tough they are and can kick ass. Anonymous Coward User ID: 27140247 Germany 11/06/2012 02:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | When I was in Airborne school (circa 1983) we had 2 or 3 marines there, in my class. From the minute they arrived at Ft Benning, they started running their mouths, bad-mouthing the army as a whole, and just having a generally shitty attitude about how great they were, and much the army sucked. We really just let it go, as we were students there, too, and we knew if you got into any sort of fight or trouble, your ass would be booted out of there in the blink of an eye. But these marine guys kept running their mouths, and the Black Hats (airborne instructors) over heard them, on more than one occasion. They were quickly thrown out after that, and thru the grapevine I heard that the airborne school CO (or XO, somebody high up the food chain), made a call to the marines CO about the problems and bad attitude that the marines had who the Marine CO sent to Benning, taking up valuable student slots in the school. I would not have wanted to be those marines when they returned to their Camp. God only knows what their CO had in store for them. I mean, what soldier or sailor or airman would go to a school, at another post, of another branch of the military, and then shit in their living room?? Common sense should prevail. |

The mortar shit is computerized I heard, etc. My story was long before this high tech stuff started. And today, I'd bet they rely on the high tech stuff for land nav, fire direction center, etc. Problem is, that could all go away while in combat, and one has to know how to do land nav, at night, with a compass and so on.
