Heads up:odd ant behaviour..
I saw ants today, they are collecting food, scarps of food left over outside. They dont usually do that in winter
I read a thread about squirrels doing this in the US too uncharacteristically
Input?

well I can affirm that we have ant invasion for much longer than usual, they have not gone away like they should.... they are very active now, regardless of the season; and usually they are not around now.

What do you think it means? Global food shortage due to some natural event?

Re: Heads up:odd ant behaviour..
I've always seen squirrels buring seeds and nuts in fall. Then they dig them up in winter and spring. I've seen squirrels dig through 2 feet of snow for them. The funniest thing to watch is when one burys a nut and another one waits for him to leave. Then he will go bury it somewhere else.

Maybe they won't eat what they naturally do because it's poisoned in some way? In other words they felt something was wrong with the food source they normally eat and now they feel desperate cause they were unable to collect anything and put it in storage? There could definitely be a shortage.

On a personal note we had ants in the house all summer...they are finally gone. It's definitely cold out here in NJ. I noticed bees were out a little later than normal but they are gone now too. They squirrels around here have always been nuts. LOL! We sometimes see them well into December.
