I find it more than a little ironic that, when Juvenal coined the term "bread and circuses", he meant to frame the distraction they provided the people as antithetical to political involvement, which he held in high esteem. Nowadays, politics is just another circus. Maybe it's THE circus. Fuck politics and all it's come to stand for.
