Just got test results back from Mayo Clinic, my wife tested positive for Lyme disease
She has had some many health issues for the past few years. Now at least maybe we have the cause. Do not know yet what the treatment will consist of. Just hope that it has been caught in time before any permanent damage has been done.

She has severe migraines
extreme tiredness
no energy
mild seizures
that is just the major stuff, lot of other issues come and go

I know a man who was hopelessly ill with lyme disease, I recently ran into him and he looked wonderfully healthy. I asked about his lyme disease and he said he cured himself with a ayervedic herbal supplement called Triphala. It is made with 3 astringent bitter fruits from India. He explained that lyme as well as other invaders hide from the immune system covering themselves with mucus. Triphala dissolves the mucus and the immune system kills it. There is hope!

There is a lot of good info on the web. but I sure as hell would try the natural route before I started down the road of conventional medicine. They are still guessing and will try experimentation. Check out the website, www.earthclinic.com
and depending on where you live there are good MD's that can help. Dr Lieberman in Charleston SC is an expert with this. Good luck.

Info from the CDC on Lyme disease:

Most cases of Lyme disease can be treated successfully with a few weeks of antibiotics.

Patients treated with appropriate antibiotics in the early stages of Lyme disease usually recover rapidly and completely.

Antibiotics commonly used for oral treatment include doxycycline, amoxicillin, or cefuroxime axetil.

Patients with certain neurological or cardiac forms of illness may require intravenous treatment with drugs such as ceftriaxone or penicillin.

For detailed recommendations on treatment, consult the 2006 Guidelines for treatment developed by the Infectious Diseases Society of America (see link below).

Good luck, OP.

I hope your wife starts to feel better very soon.

Was bit by a tick and got it too. Went to the doctor in the first week or so because I noticed the target like bite on me. I took doxycycline and everything went away. It was like the worst flu I ever had. Haven't had any problems since, key is to catch it soon.

My brother, his wife and their 3 kids all have Lymes. They live in PA and are big hunters, campers etc and my brother is a forester. Thanks for this info, I'm going to check it out.
A few weeks of antibiotics does not do the trick.

I had it last year. I took doxycycline for 4 months. I'm not completely sure I'm cured.

Janine 69, many, many thanks for your fabulous advice concerning Lyme and other diseases, in which the cowardly invaders protect themselves with excess mucus !
That's exactly what happens with that awful Morgellon's disease, so with this wonderful suggestion of yours, this ayuervedic herbal supplement Triphala, Morgellon's may actually be finally beaten, if these cowardly nanofibres can no longer hide behind their mucus fortress !
Lots of people suffer from Morgellon's, including me and my mother, so hopefully the solution is available through Triphala and thanks to your suggestion !

I caught it earlier this spring. I caught it before I even had symptoms...I mushroom hunt each spring and pull at least 50 to. 100 ticks off me in a 2 week period so I always get tested each spring...doxycycline for two weeks and never had an issue...I wish the best for your wife...later stage lyme is a little harder to treat from what all I read..best wishes

Here is another one-
Twenty three years ago Dr. Nancy Hart delivered my youngest son Paul. She was a brilliant OBGYN and top surgeon. 15 years later she was bitten by a mosquito in Tennesee, and had a severe headache for 3 days, but did not connect the two. Shortly after she told me she was trying to feel a woman's cervix during labor and was terrified because her fingertips could not relay information to her brain. She thought she had MS. She spent a year testing and treating for MS before an astute doctor decided to test her for west nile virus. That was it. The headache was swelling on her brain and it was permanently damaged. It was heartbreaking to see her degrade into a lost, handicapped person with no memory. Western medicine abandoned her. I had done her hair for almost 20 years, but she disappeared. 5 hears later She walked on to my salon and was every bit as perfectly healthy and whole as before. She told me that an ayurvedic doctor in seattle spent a year working to restore her damaged brain. Now she is travelling the world sharing her research. Just this very minute, she was here getting a haircut and I asked her specifically what ayurvedic herbs she was given. She said "Triphala, High kola, Bramini and gee." She recomended looking up Vasantlad Ayurveda and a book about basic ayurveda by Vivek Shan.

I took the antibiotics for it one time...found the "bulls eye" mark after a tick bite and went to the doc...the test for Lyme's is more than the course of antibiotics so I went with that, but after a certain point I guess the A/B don't work?

Re: Just got test results back from Mayo Clinic, my wife tested positive for Lyme disease
Lyme disease is case specific. A/B may help some people tremendously, but may help other people little to none. I had lyme for five years before I was finally diagnosed. I didn't use A/B to treat my lyme; I used alternative medicine. (Oil of oregano, purchased at a health food store, was extremely beneficial to me.) Some people use alternative medicine in addition to A/B. Like I said, the disease is case specific. Your wife needs to see a lyme disease specialist. Most doctors in America are very ignorant when it comes to understanding/treating lyme disease. It is a very complex illness, especially when a person has had it for several years. But it is treatable, and it is beatable! I suggest that you thoroughly research lyme disease so you will know what you are dealing with. Knowledge is power. Buhner's "Healing Lyme" is an excellent book. I also suggest that you join an online health forum for moral support--healingwell.com is a good one. Best of luck!

Re: Just got test results back from Mayo Clinic, my wife tested positive for Lyme disease
OP My husband was diagnosed with Lyme last April after being sick for about 6 months. You are lucky you got a positive test so quickly. We didn't get it until the 3rd try and the doctors thought we were crazy when we kept pushing for it.
He has been on ABX for 7 months now, and is still pushing through some tough symptoms. Each case is different though.

Please check for co-infections! Ticks that carry Lyme usually carry other infections as well. From the symptoms you listed, I would look into the possibility of a Bartonella co-infection. My husband has Bartonella and Babesia infections in addition to the Lyme disease from the same tick.

I wish you and your wife luck!
