Why is it that most of the "inland States" are "red republican" when it is the democratic party that supports the workers

Why is it that most of the "inland States" are "red republican" when it is the democratic party that generally supports the working class citizen (in a corporation), and the republican party generally supports the executive staff (in a corporation) - but still the inland States are for the republican party? is ignorant prejudice that wide spread still in the inland States/heartland of America?

p.s. I am 80% positive that the democratic party will still win with the swing States and large electoral States like California - but still, it's odd to me that the working class citizen in inland States don't support that party that would support them most? ignorance?
