Republicans will never again win a presidential election with less than 3% of black voters and with 30% of latinos. The demographics have changed. Or, they could enhance their appeal to the middle class while giving up the Grover Norquist pledge and being willing to tax the rich a bit more. If the GOP would make that simple tradeoff, they could win a lot of states. No need to pander to blacks (impossible against a black candidate; blacks will vote on color) and hispanics (again impossible without giving up all principles and becoming another Dem. party.) Good. I agree. I would also throw in getting in on comprehensive immigration reform. Latinos are the single fastest growing voting demographic. That's what I mean by pander, though. Opening the border and letting latinos jump the line and skip the qualification check is a very bad unprincipled idea. Might as well call ourselves Democrats then. If we give up on the Norquist pledge, we could retain our principles on immigration and, I think, get massive amounts of white middle class votes, because we would offer them an unequivocally better deal. Well Romney did that already, but I think the no-new-taxes-for-the-rich idea pisses off a lot of people, with some justification! You might be right. Thanks for the back and forth.
