| Thor's Hamster User ID: 25506378 11/07/2012 08:03 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Because the coasts have the major ports (now airports, too) receiving immigrants and visitors from abroad, bringing different ideas, culture, food, traditions, languages, religions, etc. with them, which exposes Americans in those port cities and states to lots of knowledge of different cultures around the world. As you go inland, Americans are further away from these port cities on the coasts, and hence, are less exposed to other/different ideas, etc., thus they "double down" on their own tradition as they see the coastal port cities and states evolve. Conservative inland. Liberal at the coast. It's the same in every country. And I don't just mean politically. Culturally, too. Apollo astronauts couldn't have passed through Van Allen's Belt. | Thor's Hamster User ID: 25506378 11/07/2012 08:07 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Generally, when you're exposed to more ideas, knowledge, etc., that's going to give you a more informed and realistic outlook on the world. Quoting: Thor's Hamster You don't have to agree with these other ideas, knowledge, traditions, etc., but it's important to be exposed to different things. It allows you to make more informed decisions and understand why you believe the things you believe. Apollo astronauts couldn't have passed through Van Allen's Belt. Van Allen wore suspenders. |

| Thor's Hamster User ID: 25520460 11/07/2012 08:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's the same reason university campuses (yes, I know...it's campii in Latin lol) are generally more liberal than the population at large. It's because different ideas, theories, hypotheses are being bandied about by people who've done quite a bit of research in their fields, often times having studied abroad, or even having been born overseas. That's what gives college campuses their intellectually stimulating atmosphere. The mind is presented with alternate ideas, theories, traditions. Of course you don't have to embrace all or some or even any of them, but it gives you a wider, clearer world view when you consider them. | Thor's Hamster User ID: 25525459 11/07/2012 08:22 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Sometimes I feel bad for Americans who've lived for several generations inland in rural areas. Some of what is perceived by some as hate or xenophobia with regard to race, religion, and politics is, in my opinion, like a dog who fear bites. The biting dog seems a purely mean, aggressive animal. In reality, its biting is droven by fear. That's how it manifests. And as these people continue be feel intimidated by the fast changing culture at the coast, a fear of change sets in, and they remain where they are and "double down" on their safe, comfortable traditions (ex: Evangelicals going, imo, overboard on many issues in the name of conservative tradition), and they raise their kids in the same atmosphere, so the cycle perpetuates. I think some of the people in that 8 minute video of Romney supporters in Ohio being interviewed are an example of that fear of the new, the different, and it can manifest in anger, hate, and apathy. Apollo astronauts couldn't have passed through Van Allen's Belt. Van Allen wore suspenders. |

It's simply why the coasts tend to be more liberal.... Intelligence. Let's look at the coasts, shall we? Beaches, better weather, higher costs of living, more jobs, MUCH hotter women, I can go on forever... The point is that it generally takes one of higher intelligence to live in such prime areas. Repukes are generally lower IQ, sister/sheep fuckers, so obviously, they don't have the intellect to survive in such expensive areas. The jobs are much more complex...technology, centers of higher education, engineering, medical..all of the epicenters are on the coasts. Repukes are only capapble of fucking their sheep, goats, and cows. Repukes have zero logic, would be entirely out of place in such richly diverse, wealthy, pristine areas. Sorry Repukes, you lose....AGAIN! LOL! ![]() |
