work for yourself and create your own company /close corporation etc and become a contractor ... if they want to reduce your hours ...

then, there are no benefits etc, but the hourly rate increases to compensate for this

get a very good clever accountant, and get your own private medical aid, etc and your accountant will juggle the figures and screw the system to your advantage

if you are good at your job, the company will need you to work longer hours .... if you are shit, find another profession as if you are not worth the money paid to you, the company will dump you

this is how the skilled people in South Africa operate and I worked that way (as a close corporation) for more than 20 years....

it actually works out much better, as your take home pay after taxes and expenses is a lot more

I will never work as an 'employee' again, and even here in the UK, I work for myself

The new trend in Britain I do believe is a zero hour contract. Employers expect complete flexability from employees..we will get a contract for one hour a week, or zero hours, then have to work when required. This sucks. No paid holiday anymore, and how can anyone expect to keep up mortgage payments etc? The big companies are now laying ppl off to get new more flexible employees in to completely exploit. Gotta love the tories.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26988385

Rings true, new CEO at my job is British and since taking over he has cut hours, capped pay, slashed paid holidays and new hires start at minium wage, are required to have open availibilty and are hired on at 16 hrs a week. Future so bright I gotta wear shades.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25058761

I can see paid vacations being a thing of the past. There is no need at all to offer any perks when so many people are looking for work. You only offer perks to highly valuable people and not to the masses. If people don't like it they can alway self employ themselves and start there own business. No paid holidays then.

I recently got a job at a steel casting foundry in Wa state and they made all the new hires sign a paper that they agreed that they were 30 hour a week employees. You would get 40+ hours a week if you signed the paper and only 30 if you refused.

So, emplyees will have to buy personal coverage to the tune of $500/ month or $6000 a year.

How are we going to afford this? I guess we pay the fines, I mean taxes.

It's funny how short sighted people are.

Companies aren't going to pay this bill. They will just lower the hours of employees under the limit so they are exempt from Obama's slacker tax. We will become a part time nation which will probably be the death blow to our economy. 30 hours a week max as an employee. If you want 40 hours a week you'll have to juggle two jobs.

It's gonna be hilarious. As a business owner I am definitely going underground. All my employees are going to 30 hours. Screw it. I'll dissolve my company before I pay that commie shit. And most business owners I know feel the same.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18380503

Commie shit?
A system that is trying to provide health care for all so that a woman (a grandmother, mother, daughter, sister) with breast cancer can get it treated rather than it be a death sentence.

So that from the time it is diagnosed to her death (if left untreated) the cancer does not break through her skin, weeping.

Commie shit?

I can take off for vacation for a week, a month or 6 months. As long as I work, save and plan ahead! Have been doing this for 10 years. If I had to work for a corporation again as an employee I would laugh in their faces about 2 weeks vacation time, sick time, etc. Being an employee to me is akin to being used as a lab rat.

All while providing a higher quality product than the other fast food companies at a cheaper price.

It makes sense really. Technology has made us more efficient workers. So our wages should have went up in just.

I can't afford to be a stay at home mom. I can't stand not working. As for hiring in my town, I am over qualified to bag groceries, can't work a production line b/c I have been in an office environment for 10 years, so I find work cutting yards, cleaning houses, etc. I don't want welfare. I want to work. I cried last night b/c I feel like Obama is just driving everyone to welfare. A person should not have to fight the gov't for a job.

Honestly, how will Obamacare lower costs when more rules and regulations will require more administration and oversight, requiring more personnel, requiring new salaries that will require raising costs to cover, which will be passed on to you and me, the consumer?

If x number of people didn't have health coverage because they couldn't afford it prior to Obamacare, how will x number of people now suddenly be able to pay for the fine levied against them because they cannot afford health coverage that they're being forced to purchase...that they couldn't afford in the first place?

Ya know I didn't vote for Obama but you are a real piece of shit! You are willing cut your employees hrs. because you will have to pay more in health insurance premiums. I can understand if you close shop because you will start to go under if you had to pay. But if you are profitable enough to sustain your employees and pay the extra for insurance then to hell with you! Fucking Leave!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23990831

Exactly how I feel. If you are willing to let your company go so easily, ciao! I hope you saved enough to never have to work again. Otherwise, you will be in the same position as your employees.

I also love when people threaten to move out of the USA. Go ahead! Make sure you are fluent in the language of the country you are moving to. Make sure you can afford to even live where you move. Most Americans can't afford a pot to piss in let alone live in another country. Sure some attractive benefits such as health coverage are available abroad but they pay for it!

When I was growing up employer paid part of the insurance for their worker but that was back in the 1960s to the 1970s.
The idea change when Nixon was president, the money was back by gold and silver, it was taken away during that time. After this happen prices got higher and higher with each year that passed. Then it was just in time inventory, next trade agreements, step by step they toke made in America away. They have made use a service economy, people who work in service jobs, except doctors, lawyers, politicians, make low salaries, they can't pay any on insurance and the business can't afford to pay it, by the most part, so we all are caught between a rock and a hard place.

The problem is your scapegoat/savior mentality.

You complain about people who herald Obama as a savior- but you herald him as a scapegoat- SAME THING

Obama is just a figurehead of an entire system that needs to change so radically - its not going to be a comfortable one. Its not going to be a coddling one, because you fight change so rabidly - change is gonna kick your ass and leave you crying like babies...

And then comes THE LIGHT...

you cannot experience the benefit of change- without experiencing change itself.

Pluto in Capricorn - means the death and rebirth of old structures...

sit back and relax - it hurts like hell to be in labor with a baby - but when its over its a beautiful thing.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24425839

Blame the cheap employers. Why blame the guy who is trying to provide affordable healthcare for you and your family.

Get a clue.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7061022

Actually, I think YOU need to get a clue. You are clearly a sheep and uninformed. It was NEVER Obama's intent to provide affordable healthcare to anyone! That is evident by the law itself and the regulations that are being implemented to carry out the law. Did you read the bill? If you had you would never have made this statement. It will take this country from its knees and put it face down in the mud. We are likely over. This healthcare bill is all about the gov't taking over that huge chunk of the economy and controlling the populace all in one piece of crap legislation. It is all about HUGE government and new taxes, one of which will destroy our struggling real estate market.

That said, the healthcare issue is only one of many. What about the NDAA? What about Solyndra and others like it? What about Benghazi? What about his failure to even attempt a solution at job creation? What about his failure to cut spending? What about his refusal to offer a reasonable budget that even ONE legilator could accept? What about a deficit of $ 1million back to back to back? What about.....and the list goes on. Sorry, as much as I wanted to, this is not a President I can get behind. "Forward" he says----but to where?

I, too, am a business owner. I am a female. I come from abject poverty and I got my education the old fashioned way, I WORKED AND PAID FOR IT--it took me 25 years to pay for it because I got and PAID for a student loan. I invested in and started my own business over 20 years ago.

As a small business owner, I am facing a HUGE increase in taxes and the cost of my overhead is increasing, however my income has changed very little. There may come a time when I just move Forward, close my doors and go for whatever the govt will give me--food stamps, welfare, phone, section 8 housing, etc. But, alas, my mother (yes, I was raised in a single parent household) raised me to be self-sufficient, to pick myself up, stop the whining and do what it takes to take care of myself. We need more mothers like her instead of this Nanny state.

Sorry, didn't mean to get carried away......
 Quoting: livnlife2day 27239792

Give it up sister. You are casting pearls before illiterate swine.

Employers are too cheap.

Papa Johns don't want to charge 15 cents a pizza in order to provide healthcare for their employees.

This is during a time of records corporate profits and huge cash reserves.

They have already been doing this because corporation HATE paying benefits and have always tried to avoid this expense.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7061022

This is where you people are wrong. It is NOT the employer's responsibility to provide people 'benefits' or healthcare. THAT is the entire crux of the problem.

You slackers want to the government to tax business to pay for your hypochondriac tendencies. If I have to pay that then I reserve the right to dictate what you eat, how much alcohol you drink, and if you are allowed to smoke.

The entire health benefit enigma is a fraudulent scam. The government can not force this. We will revolt and punish the employees. That's just the way it is. You think you are entitled but you are not. You slackers are dillusional. You think that businesses are an inexhaustible pool of money when in truth most barely get by. Just because the company owner makes a couple dollars does not mean the company is raking in money. And even if the owner reduced his own salary to minimum wage it can never amount to paying healthcare for all the employees. It quite simply will not work.

Even if it could work, the healthcare you would receive would be a nightmare like military style healthcare with death panels and mandatory vaccinations. You people fucked up. Get ready to pay for being greedy.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18380503

Here in Canada, many of us pay for our own coverage which is deducted from our paycheck... the employer doesn't pay it!
Also;
- many of us have forfeited raises in order to have our employer cover a % of the coverage costs
- over time enough raises have been forfeited for some that they now have the employer pay the full coverage amount
- some of us have a choice of coverage, and depending on our choice of coverage depends on how much is deducted from our pay.
- many of us have also fought for better coverage in exchange for a raise or as part of a raise.
- many Canadians choose where to apply for a job, based on the coverage provided by that employer and the % of employer paid coverage if any.

Wow, everyone is so busy arguing pointless details to see the big picture.

I posted 3 times and no one gets it?

That or I am being intelligently filtered................

It is about job creation and redistributing wealth.

If we have 100 jobs working 40 hr/wk

We could have 200 jobs at 20 hr/wk and make it look like jobs climbed 100% with 100 new jobs.

But, there is no additional wealth put into society with these job gains. So the wealth is redistributed to the newly employed part timer.

The result is even more jobs created when the previously employed at 40+ hrs has to get a second job.

Suddenly no body has insurance because the employer doesnt need to provide insurance (30 and under hrs)

Now Obammy can force you to purchase insurance out of pocket.

I can not believe America fell for this great rip off!!!

Re: Goodbye free health care, hello 30 hour work week
It's funny how short sighted people are.

Companies aren't going to pay this bill. They will just lower the hours of employees under the limit so they are exempt from Obama's slacker tax. We will become a part time nation which will probably be the death blow to our economy. 30 hours a week max as an employee. If you want 40 hours a week you'll have to juggle two jobs.

It's gonna be hilarious. As a business owner I am definitely going underground. All my employees are going to 30 hours. Screw it. I'll dissolve my company before I pay that commie shit. And most business owners I know feel the same.

lots of companies have already started making the move to all part time employees

well, here's an example for you, read the article and find alot more, sorry to burst your bubble but this will be the new job market...

Ken Adams said his 10 Subway restaurant franchises in Michigan have about 60 employees who work 30 hours or more in a given week. Before year-end he plans to cut their hours to below 30 and, in some cases, to reduce positions altogether, he said. A Subway corporate spokesman said it was up to individual franchisees to make such decisions.

and yet other western nations that provide health care seem to survive

They have a far lower standard of living than the average American. A lowered standard of living for America seems to be the end goal of all Obama's policies. Think about it: a one world NWO must of necessity take from those who have more than most (the American middle class, among others) and give to the ENORMOUS number of people in the world who have less. Of course the rulers, overlords, elite or whatever you want to call them will exempt themselves from any redistribution of wealth.

The result is even more jobs created when the previously employed at 40+ hrs has to get a second job.

Suddenly no body has insurance because the employer doesnt need to provide insurance (30 and under hrs)

Now Obammy can force you to purchase insurance out of pocket.

well not exactly your you get some money out of others pockets to but ya it's a total sucker punch.....

I can not believe America fell for this great rip off!!!
