Re: Goodbye free health care, hello 30 hour work week
I'm an employer and I would rather not provide healthcare. To be honest, I have no idea why we provide health care. Everyone calls it competitive benefits and it is a big waste of time and costs a ton of money.

Healthcare costs go up 15% to 20% a year for the last 7 years.

Coverage goes down every year.

No one is using the healthcare we are paying for. Only a few use it.

If people want the government to own it, they can have it. Just tax the 1%.

Crap, I'm the 1%. I better sell my firm now...

Suck

Go for it. I want to blame Obama for this mess.

I am so upset that he won. DRATS!!!!!!!

Get a clue.

Ideally, we should work less and get paid more. How about a 20 hour work week but keep my paycheck the same... That's what we need

Employers are too cheap.

Papa Johns don't want to charge 15 cents a pizza in order to provide healthcare for their employees.

This is during a time of records corporate profits and huge cash reserves.

They have already been doing this because corporation HATE paying benefits and have always tried to avoid this expense.

Read it your self. This is structured so that after a "few" years the fines companies would pay are LESS than the costs to insure their employees.

I run my business without employees. I hire independent contractors(IC) and "sell" them the merchandise the deliver to my contracted customers. As payment for product I accept the invoices they generate at point of sale. The difference between what I charge my IC for merchandise and the invoice cost given my contracted customers becomes their "gross pay." I refer to this amount as "reimbursement for overpayment." It is on the checks for all 43 of my IC's.
 Quoting: IIIIIth

You are correct, this will be the model moving forward for me too. I run 45 employees and 15 contractors in the technology services area. I will be moving to less employees and more contractors because of all the government forms and taxes you have to do for employees.

When you are a contractor in IT consulting, you are 1099 and own everything. income tax and healthcare.

Makes my bookkeeping cleaner.

And, when a project ends. I don't have to carry them on the bench either. Cut.

It's funny how short sighted people are.

Companies aren't going to pay this bill. They will just lower the hours of employees under the limit so they are exempt from Obama's slacker tax. We will become a part time nation which will probably be the death blow to our economy. 30 hours a week max as an employee. If you want 40 hours a week you'll have to juggle two jobs.

It's gonna be hilarious. As a business owner I am definitely going underground. All my employees are going to 30 hours. Screw it. I'll dissolve my company before I pay that commie shit. And most business owners I know feel the same.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18380503

Yes indeed.

Today I will be firing 12 employees. Damn shame, they are all very good, but the profit margin on my business after Obamacare doesn't allow me to be charitable.

Unlike Obama, affirmative action doesn't hand me everything I want.

So, goodbye America. I quit. No more business, no more production, no more paying taxes.

Gimme my Obamaphone, and then fuck off and die.

You need to be in a high paying job to get healthcare. Making minimum wage does not even come close for your employer to pay your healthcare tab. Each person can run between $500 to $1,000 a month on health benefits.

Do the math

This is where you people are wrong. It is NOT the employer's responsibility to provide people 'benefits' or healthcare. THAT is the entire crux of the problem.

You slackers want to the government to tax business to pay for your hypochondriac tendencies. If I have to pay that then I reserve the right to dictate what you eat, how much alcohol you drink, and if you are allowed to smoke.

The entire health benefit enigma is a fraudulent scam. The government can not force this. We will revolt and punish the employees. That's just the way it is. You think you are entitled but you are not. You slackers are dillusional. You think that businesses are an inexhaustible pool of money when in truth most barely get by. Just because the company owner makes a couple dollars does not mean the company is raking in money. And even if the owner reduced his own salary to minimum wage it can never amount to paying healthcare for all the employees. It quite simply will not work.

Even if it could work, the healthcare you would receive would be a nightmare like military style healthcare with death panels and mandatory vaccinations. You people fucked up. Get ready to pay for being greedy.

Form another EIN company and pay employees with both. 20 hrs each. That is what we are doing to keep our (4) employees at 40 hrs! We already did not offer insurance because we could't afford it, and we (as a family) don't have it either.

I was told yesterday that I would no longer receive a cost of living raise I have topped out. I don't make alot of money $33,000, and I can only assume this is due to mandatory health insurance. Some other changes, 4 new positions opened up, we need more people, these positions are posted for 16 hours. Really 16 hours a week? You would have to have at least 3 jobs to live on this, oh and they want open availability so basically it would be impossible to have another job since your hours will be all over the place. Welcome to the new economy.....

So what? 25% less salary won't make any significant difference. Just purchase a smaller house or cheaper car or stop eating out and start cooking your meal (you will have time to that). If you give people 25% more of their free time to spend with their families, it is a very good sign. Who said that people should spend all their lives on somebody's wealth and not on their families? There are many countries with salaries 10-100 smaller than in US (with the same prices for food and goods) and people sill live there. Russia had at least two financial crashes. Nothing terrible happened. Bankruptcy is OK, hyperinflation is not that bad too. Working less on somebody and spending more time with your family is even better. Americans are spending too much on all sorts of junk, if they lose even 50% of their salaries they will simply buy less junk. Why do you need 2000+ sq feet for family of three when in most countries you will be happy to have 500 square feet for the same family? You got used to live in luxury but in socialism it is only the privilege of those in power, general population should live near poverty. Saving 5 years to buy a TV, saving 20 years to buy a car.

America chose the socialists path yesterday so get prepared for it.
