Goodbye free health care, hello 30 hour work week

People shouldn't have to work more than 30 hours a week anyway. Life is much too short to put up with that crap.

Let's be honest, you'll never go to 30 hours a week per employee, you'd never make any money. I know, cause I use to own a business myself! Unless you're sending jobs to China to save on labor, good luck with that. It's time to end the scare tactics.

Obama will just pass laws to make it nearly impossible to do that. He will pass stiff penalties if that is the game they want to play.

Why don't you go to your boss then and tell him/her that you want to give up your health coverage, and go part time down to a 30 hour week. I guarantee you they'll do it.

I own a business too. I put my house and all my assets on the line with the bank to establish the cash line of credit to get the business going. My wife and I risked everything we have to get going. I now employ 42 people. None of them would risk shit to start their own business. But they think nothing of trying to tell me how to run mine.

It's people like YOU who are just as much the problem....the ones who think they are entitled to a job, entitled to the same pay and benefits of the ones who risked everything to build it.

This healthcare law, best as we can tell, is going to cost my company an additional 68,000 dollars next year. That's a lot. That's two more people I could have employed if you want to look at it that way. I'm near retirement. I think every day about selling out. The only reason I don't yet is becuase I have 42 people counting on me for ther families and livelyhood.

I work 20h a week AND I have free health care. Sweden rules.

My employer is a great guy, gives me 37 to 40 hours at least and isn't talking about reducing hours and pay because someone who didn't have healthcare now has it. This is just more scaremongering from a few businesspeople on the right. Plain and simple.

Companies aren't going to pay this bill. They will just lower the hours of employees under the limit so they are exempt from Obama's slacker tax. We will become a part time nation which will probably be the death blow to our economy. 30 hours a week max as an employee. If you want 40 hours a week you'll have to juggle two jobs.

It's gonna be hilarious. As a business owner I am definitely going underground. All my employees are going to 30 hours. Screw it. I'll dissolve my company before I pay that commie shit. And most business owners I know feel the same.

Here in Brazil, it is almost impossible to open a small business. Taxes, bureaucracy, regulations.

We pay 40% in taxes, most of them hidden in the price of rice and beans, for example. A cheap car costs US$ 40K (Civic).

Government has become huge, and all promotions and raises are based on political standing. Huge corruption, the capitalists with ties to the government are getting richer and richer like in China.

Try to get a medical appointment in the government medical system: 3 months for a consultation, one year for surgery. Pray that you don't die. Everybody buys private insurance if they can.

Obama will destroy America. Wait and see.

So you're saying that people in Canada generally work 30 or less hours a week and still have to pay hundreds a month for insurance policies? I didn't think so.

Are you guys even reading the post? People WANT/NEED to work full time, but can't. Most of the jobs lost in the recession were full-time high wage jobs, nearly ALL of the jobs created this year (in the private sector), are low wage Part-time jobs.

It has already started. I work part time but due to my husband recently being diagnosed with a serious illness, I need to find full time work with benefits. A trend I have noticed is that most of the jobs are part time without any benefits and I imagine it is only going to get worse.
