I know, cause I use to own a business myself! Unless you're sending jobs to China to save on labor, good luck with that. It's time to end the scare tactics. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18718744 Why do you say that? Where I work I'm a part-time manager and guaranteed 25-30 hours, but the regular employees are only guaranteed 4 hours week (though they may get more), and it's been this way since the recession hit....last year where their highest revenue ever with a 12% increase. Many companies are already doing what he's talking about, no reason not to think the trend will continue. |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 1329407 11/07/2012 12:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's funny how short sighted people are. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18380503 Companies aren't going to pay this bill. They will just lower the hours of employees under the limit so they are exempt from Obama's slacker tax. We will become a part time nation which will probably be the death blow to our economy. 30 hours a week max as an employee. If you want 40 hours a week you'll have to juggle two jobs. It's gonna be hilarious. As a business owner I am definitely going underground. All my employees are going to 30 hours. Screw it. I'll dissolve my company before I pay that commie shit. And most business owners I know feel the same. lots of companies have already started making the move to all part time employees Obama will just pass laws to make it nearly impossible to do that. He will pass stiff penalties if that is the game they want to play. You, madam, are an idiot. Obama can't pass laws. |

Quoting: Mr. E 5439566 Personally I'd love a 30 hour work week where I could have a better work-life balance rather than being a corporate slave 40+ hours a week. Why don't you go to your boss then and tell him/her that you want to give up your health coverage, and go part time down to a 30 hour week. I guarantee you they'll do it. I own a business too. I put my house and all my assets on the line with the bank to establish the cash line of credit to get the business going. My wife and I risked everything we have to get going. I now employ 42 people. None of them would risk shit to start their own business. But they think nothing of trying to tell me how to run mine. It's people like YOU who are just as much the problem....the ones who think they are entitled to a job, entitled to the same pay and benefits of the ones who risked everything to build it. This healthcare law, best as we can tell, is going to cost my company an additional 68,000 dollars next year. That's a lot. That's two more people I could have employed if you want to look at it that way. I'm near retirement. I think every day about selling out. The only reason I don't yet is becuase I have 42 people counting on me for ther families and livelyhood. Fuck you chum. Why not start looking now for someone who will buy your business and keep your employees on. |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 1550123 11/07/2012 12:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well, you do pay for it through taxes but at least it is not tied to employment. And this is how it should be. I would gladly pay more in taxes to know that if I was not employed that I would still have heath care. And then people can switch jobs when they want(or not work) and know that there will be no problem with getting healthcare. Too many people work a sucky job just so they can get healthcare and that is no life. |

Just give up and go survive off the money your mommy and daddy prolly gave you to start your business, or if by some miracle you did it on your own, you can just take your savings and live off that till you go broke and have to be on welfare. When Austrian economics talks about people taking their money and shutting down operations because of regulations, it's talking about millionaires and billionaires, most people can't afford to shut down their business because they don't like legislation that gets passed. As a single Mom with 3 kids at the time, I desperately needed my job. Every employee signed the paper. A couple of years later, EVERYONE lost their job when the boss closed the place. |
