Re: Goodbye free health care, hello 30 hour work week
It's funny how short sighted people are.

Companies aren't going to pay this bill. They will just lower the hours of employees under the limit so they are exempt from Obama's slacker tax. We will become a part time nation which will probably be the death blow to our economy. 30 hours a week max as an employee. If you want 40 hours a week you'll have to juggle two jobs.

It's gonna be hilarious. As a business owner I am definitely going underground. All my employees are going to 30 hours. Screw it. I'll dissolve my company before I pay that commie shit. And most business owners I know feel the same.

It is not about that.....

IT IS ABOUT MIDDLE CLASS WEALTH REDISTRIBUTION!!!

Forcing businesses to fire 1 person full time to hire 3 people part time. The result is 2 extra jobs are created with ZERO additional wealth in the middle class.

Wally Mart is already doing this, pretty sure they are the largest company in the world so others will have to follow suit to compete. The libtards will have kill their babies or go to obamaville to survive. At least their military age children will be fed until they die in the obama wars.

I recently got a job at a steel casting foundry in Wa state and they made all the new hires sign a paper that they agreed that they were 30 hour a week employees. You would get 40+ hours a week if you signed the paper and only 30 if you refused.

Finally we have an affordable system and they don't even want that for you.

Employers should be doing back flips now that they can provide healthcare for their employees.

US companies are supposed to compete out in the world with this kind of noose around their neck???

US people will soon be digging with sticks for bugs in the dirt just to find something to eat.

Why do you guys keep electing turkeys to be your leaders?

sheepsheepsheepsheepsheep

Nearly one-quarter of all seniors rely on Medicare Advantage, the private health care option in Medicare. However, Obamacare makes such deep cuts to that program that half of those covered will no longer be able to keep the coverage they have.

New taxes on drug companies ($27 billion) and medical device makers ($20 billion), as well as new reporting requirements and regulations imposed on physicians, will make access to health care and services more costly and difficult for seniors under Obamacare.

Buried in the ObamaCare law is a tax on medical devices. This month, we learned that 205 employees of medical device maker Welch Allyn will lose their jobs because of it. the new medical devices tax will hit employers at 2.3 percent on their sales. So a company with $100 million in sales that turns a $10 million profit will fork over a brand new tax of $2.3 million just to cover the ObamaCare tab.

Many businesses that have 50 or more workers consider themselves (and run their operations as) small businesses. These businesses will now have to pay a penalty of $2,000 per worker if they do not offer healthcare coverage and have workers who access the exchanges. This penalty has nothing to do with affordability and everything to do with punishing businesses for something the government has decided businesses should be forced to provide. Worse, with new mandates like these, what incentive is there for a firm to grow any bigger than 50 employees when it means employers may face such stiff fines? This approach is the exact opposite of a recipe for incentivizing job growth.

A nearly $1 trillion bill that the president says “will not add one dime” to the deficit has to be paid for somehow and that means taxes. The President’s proposal includes even higher taxes and fees than the Senate bill, and they fall on small businesses, including a new $60 billion tax on health insurance, increased Medicare payroll taxes and a new Medicare tax on investments.

The new $60 billion tax on health insurance is an especially egregious tax, since it directly and specifically hits small businesses and individuals. Big businesses and unions were specifically exempted. The penalties of $2,000 per worker levied on small businesses with more than 50 workers who can’t afford to provide healthcare (and who have workers accessing the exchange) is another indirect tax, but a fee no less. Medicare payroll taxes will also be increased by .9 percent as well as a brand new 2.9 percent Medicare tax on non-wage income like dividends, interest and capital gains.

What will happen is that the rules will change so benefit provision is calculated pro rata against a 40 hour baseline, rather than with a binary requirement at 40 hours "full-time". In that case, benefits will be paid against the full set of hours worked by employees, whatever that number turns out to be. A 30 hr/wk worker will get benefits 75% of a 40 hr/wk worker. It depends on the business, but some businesses will be better off with more workers working fewer hours, and vice versa. In any case, businesses won't be able to duck the intent by part-timing everyone.

Ya know I didn't vote for Obama but you are a real piece of shit! You are willing cut your employees hrs. because you will have to pay more in health insurance premiums. I can understand if you close shop because you will start to go under if you had to pay. But if you are profitable enough to sustain your employees and pay the extra for insurance then to hell with you! Fucking Leave!

Exactly how I feel. If you are willing to let your company go so easily, ciao! I hope you saved enough to never have to work again. Otherwise, you will be in the same position as your employees.

I also love when people threaten to move out of the USA. Go ahead! Make sure you are fluent in the language of the country you are moving to. Make sure you can afford to even live where you move. Most Americans can't afford a pot to piss in let alone live in another country. Sure some attractive benefits such as health coverage are available abroad but they pay for it!

What you are sying is that employers dont want to insure there staff, well then nobody will want to work for them, then company folds, owner loses out. Off course they will pay, it all gets adjusted.

Employers are too cheap.

Papa Johns don't want to charge 15 cents a pizza in order to provide healthcare for their employees.

This is during a time of records corporate profits and huge cash reserves.

They have already been doing this because corporation HATE paying benefits and have always tried to avoid this expense.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7061022

Papa Johns pizza is already to damn high! They charge a $3.50 delivery fee. Then I always tip 3 bucks. Right there is almost $7.00. Luckily there's a Papa Johns about 5 blocks up. I just drive up and get take out. They always have the deal for $10.00 any large/specialty for take out.

Also fast food type jobs sold not be ones choice for long term employment. Unless you work up to manager or something. There fore, places like Papa Johns I'm okay with them not offering health care. If that is even true, I didn't do research on it.

OP it sounds like you are part of the problem and not part of the solution.

Personally I'd love a 30 hour work week where I could have a better work-life balance rather than being a corporate slave 40+ hours a week.
 Quoting: Mr. E 5439566

But, could you do it on 25% lower salary and no benefits (not just health insurance but sick pay, paid holidays, overtime, etc.)? "Part-time" employees rarely qualify for these, and many employers have operated this way for years, keeping their employees just under the line where all of that would kick in. The employees are aware of this ahead of time, but the need for SOME sort of income keeps them there. A lot of these jobs are entry-level, service jobs, or require lower skills or educational levels to perform adequately.

I think the issue here is that the companies which ARE solvent enough to offer and support 40-hour/week jobs, ARE able to pay a decent wage and concurrent benefits, are now considering a reduction to 30 hours/week in order to even stay in business and dodge a bunch of new taxes, fees, and fines. And if that strategy doesn't work, they will close up shop entirely.

BTW, have you seen the Stock Market today? It's down over 300 points. I'd say that there are a whole bunch of companies right now who are re-assessing their employee structure.....

Blame the cheap employers. Why blame the guy who is trying to provide affordable healthcare for you and your family.

Get a clue.

Actually, I think YOU need to get a clue. You are clearly a sheep and uninformed. It was NEVER Obama's intent to provide affordable healthcare to anyone! That is evident by the law itself and the regulations that are being implemented to carry out the law. Did you read the bill? If you had you would never have made this statement. It will take this country from its knees and put it face down in the mud. We are likely over. This healthcare bill is all about the gov't taking over that huge chunk of the economy and controlling the populace all in one piece of crap legislation. It is all about HUGE government and new taxes, one of which will destroy our struggling real estate market.

That said, the healthcare issue is only one of many. What about the NDAA? What about Solyndra and others like it? What about Benghazi? What about his failure to even attempt a solution at job creation? What about his failure to cut spending? What about his refusal to offer a reasonable budget that even ONE legilator could accept? What about a deficit of $ 1million back to back to back? What about.....and the list goes on. Sorry, as much as I wanted to, this is not a President I can get behind. "Forward" he says----but to where?

I, too, am a business owner. I am a female. I come from abject poverty and I got my education the old fashioned way, I WORKED AND PAID FOR IT--it took me 25 years to pay for it because I got and PAID for a student loan. I invested in and started my own business over 20 years ago.

As a small business owner, I am facing a HUGE increase in taxes and the cost of my overhead is increasing, however my income has changed very little. There may come a time when I just move Forward, close my doors and go for whatever the govt will give me--food stamps, welfare, phone, section 8 housing, etc. But, alas, my mother (yes, I was raised in a single parent household) raised me to be self-sufficient, to pick myself up, stop the whining and do what it takes to take care of myself. We need more mothers like her instead of this Nanny state.

Sorry, didn't mean to get carried away......
