America is screwed and the rest of the world knows it.

So Americans, you have re-elected the world's most incompetent and economically backwards politician (since our very own unfortunate Gordon Brown) as your president. Oh dear. But then what choice did you have? Romney - ok, so he had more of a clue economically, but his social values were somewhere in the Dark Ages.

For all of Europe's problems I can honestly say, for the first time in years, that I am very glad I live on this side of the Atlantic. Something is seriously wrong when the most powerful nation on Earth has created a situation where it's voters can only realistically choose between a pleasant but simple black man and a white religious zealot.

Maybe its the fact that you guys have turned politics into a freak show of epic proportions that has totally lost sight of what government is supposed to be (i.e. a body that guides the nation in the interests of the people), or maybe its the fact that you have turned electioneering into a big money business in and upon itself? Either way the US elections are always a farce to watch, but this years was more shocking than usual because the stakes were so high.

Americans I truly pity you. I've lived over there, and I have a lot of family there. I was a kid in the 80s and remember the 'American Dream'. I've seen how friendly most Americans are, and how they are entrepreneurial and creative. But I've also watched as many have regressed into greed and intolerance, how religious extremism has reared it's ugly head, and how selfish 'me, me, me' entitlement culture has been encouraged by some in the political establishment.

In the United States there now seems to be so many greedy, selfish, single-minded, incompetent morons who are using religion, race and wealth as tools to whip up anger and further their own ends - politicians who are just playing good honest Americans as pawns. I don't see any future other than civil war. How else can it end with such ferocious polarisation.

The question is which will be the first state to have the balls to secede from the rotten union, and who will back them up?
