Even if we had a candidate like Ron Paul up there, I'm not sure it would make a difference. Quoting: Super Bowl Dave SBD - I usually read your comments because I enjoy them and often find your points reasonable and agreeable. Based on my prior experience with your postings, I am writing to respectfully disagree with you on this one. The GOP lost it by trying to cobble together a coalition that had no natural affinities other than a profound (borderline pathological) antipathy towards the President. I feel that the GOP was remarkably and intentionally DISRESPECTFUL to Ron Paul and his base - a base that was energized around constitutionally based rights and duties rather than pure animus. I think that the GOP threw away this election with the nomination of Mitt Romney - try as they might they just could not turn him into a Reagan nor Obama into a Carter. |

No Supreme Court (even if it had 9 Antonin Scalias on it) would ever repeal a women's right to have an abortion. First, riots would ensue. Secondly, whichever political party initiated that, they wouldn't see another victory for a generation. So GOP...enough kissing up to the Evangelicals, drop the abortion plank. You have absolutely no intention of playing that card anyway, even if the opportunity presented itself. The GOP must choose between the social conservatives (the most ridiculous criteria upon which to vote for a CIVIC leader) or a fiscally responsible, yet more progressive, GOP. Apollo astronauts couldn't have passed through Van Allen's Belt. Van Allen wore suspenders. |

The country has officially rejected the party which has encouraged its adherents to openly give vent to the darkest aspects of themselves, things they should be exorcising from themselves, not proudly shouting from the rooftops. These qualities which we see expressed here daily, the overt racism, approval of murder of doctors who dare to perform abortions, the branding of women who would abort their diseased rapists embryo, the requirement that you not on disagree with those of differing political persuasions but you must demonize them and detest them and consider them your enemies. Republicans, you have allowed yourselves to become truly anachronistic within a civilized, modern society. Not sure if they can continue this strategy much longer before they are even less relevant than they are today. The United States House of Representatives is the only reason the country MAY avoid collapse and that is a big question mark. |

Quoting: Super Bowl Dave GOP could have run a tree stump and I argue Obama would have won. Even if we had a candidate like Ron Paul up there, I'm not sure it would make a difference. This isn't about Romney. Yes, he fucked up and the GOP fucked up, but Romney ran a fairly effective campaign that focused on Obama's failures (and not attacking him personally) and gave himself a chance to win in the closing months. Romney was assaulted by a billion dollar character assassination campaign as well, as would have been any other candidate. Romney's background was comparatively fairly clean and free of scandals. The country's changed. We saw that tonight. I argue it's been gone since Reagan left office, but now it's officially dead. I blame the GOP far less and the voters far more. It wasn't so much that people just hated Romney and voted against him, what we saw were millions of people showing up because THEY LOVE OBAMA AND THINK HE'S COOL. If the GOP goes CENTER it has a chance to win elections in the future. It sure as shit won't ever win the presidency again if it's bringing in 30% latinos and 3% blacks, and losing women by an almost 60% to 40% split. The answer is in the CENTER |

Americans will never allow our country to become a theocracy. Americans are uncomfortable being told they must hate their fellow human beings because they are a different color or nationality or of a different political persuasion or have different sexual proclivities or must label a 12 year old a murdress for the need to abort her rapists embryo or......Americans, as they truly evolve spiritually, are rejecting blind, omnidirectional hatred. |

Correct, the GOP gave the finger to Ron Paul, thus losing an opportunity to bring more people in under that inclusive umbrella of libertarianism. I argue Romney made a pretty effective closing push, but up until the last month, he had squandered miserably. He was evasive in interviews, failed to squelch questions about taxes and Bain. All this should have been put to rest long ago, and they just let it fester. Romney should have made a big fuss about NDAA, civil rights, Bush era policies continuing under Obama. Should have talked about Monsanto. There are a LOT of things he should have talked about, but he -- as a man -- isn't informed. How the fuck could Romney complain about those things when he favors them more than Obama?? What you're really saying is that Romney was the wrong candidate. Not only that, but your GOP SUCKS ON THE ISSUES. THAT I can agree with!!! |
