Collecting rainwater isn't illegal here in the east and it probably cannot be made illegal, because the property owner's rights extend to the sky and include everything including mineral rights too. Here when you buy land you get a lot.

In the west, esp. the arid west, when you buy land you get the right to use the surface and that's about it. No mineral rights, and your rights don't extend upward either. So that rainfall isn't necessarily yours, and they can pass a regulation saying it's theirs instead.

Of course BO is a puppet, the most obvious one (imo) that America has ever had. But, I also saw a black woman in the voting lines shouting to the reporter that obama gave them a free phone among other things. So those people were voting for him, because he gave them a free phone, & I'm sure there were many like her with the same sentiment. So between the fraudlent voting & the naive/gullible voters, now you got another 4yrs of continuing on with the Agenda. My heart goes out to you all. But, it wouldn't have mattered if Rommney had won, he too would have to toe the line & carry out the agenda. It's all a charade to let the people think they actually have a choice. What a sick joke.

Yeah, but at least it wasn't snowing on them. Told my husband, who wants to move to Florida, that we might as well cause at least hurricane are warmer down there.

Perhaps, I met my husband at Bethany Beach, if they get the road by the Indian Point bridge (or something like that) fixed then perhaps we'll go down there next year.

As a Canadian I'd like to voice my opinion that the US ... oh never mind.

Why would the people who are ANTI hydrocarbon energy be in any sort of rush to restore HC generated energy?...they won't be...They also won't be in any hurry to rebuild or restore any homes that were along a shore or beach, they would much rather see those properties never rebuilt.

They will be much happier seeing these places never return. So they will have the insurance companies and the Federal govt pay the people off and have them go elsewhere, like it or not. No utilities the properties will be condemmed, the former owners either bought out or paid off, shuffled away and in a few months it'll be more difficult to return than stay wherever they are.

Big gov't in action...it's what people asked for, so it's what people get.

The barrier islands in New Jersey were informed of this last week! They have no power, no natural gas, no water. The residents have evacuated as of last Friday. It might be 6-8 months until they can return.

As someone who actually lives in NJ and has seen the destruction from Sandy first hand, part of the reason for the second evacuation is that a number of trees and buildings were weakened significantly in the storm. There wasn't enough time to fix everything after the damage the first time around, so they're telling people to go further inland and wait it out.

The damage is already predicted to be significantly less than first thought because of the path of the storm. The storm front going up the coast has moved further east, meaning it won't directly hit most of the area. It will increase winds, which has the potential to knock over loose trees and power lines.

Now, I have serious questions about the speed of the initial response compared to what was actually accomplished in the week since Sandy. In my town, the schools were the last area to have their power restored. Trees are still sitting in the middle of the street on major roadways and the mayor is dictating what everyone in town can or cannot do. Friends and family in other parts of the state were told they'd have power back by Friday, then told on Friday they might get it back by Thanksgiving because they were no longer priority neighborhoods.

But at least Mayor Bloomberg, Andrew Cuomo, Chris Christie, and Barack Obama got nice photo-ops for such a quick response to the storm. Apparently, the new gold standard is not taking as long as FEMA took to respond to Hurricane Katrina. Hooray?

I'm from New Jersey and I used to like Christie. I'm angry now. I guess he thought if he praised Obama during the many news conferences and interviews given every single day last week, Obama would come through. He was wrong. Obama came for the photo op, and now he's probably planning a weekend of golf and another exotic, warm vacation with Mooshelle, the girls, the mother in law, the brother-in-law and his kids, their friends.....

In my area, Westchester County NY, we had tons of trees and power poles down. Power poles broken in half by the wind, I've never seen that before. In my very small town we had 118 power poles down. We had 10 from Irene. The damage from this storm was vastly, vastly greater in our area, especially to electrical infrastructure. I was told that only 12 power poles can be replaced per day. It is a lot of work to get it delivered on site, erect and anchor it, and wire it up, for each single pole.

I think the road crews, the sort of people who move and remove trees, are needed to assist with electrical restoration. And/or maybe they are constrained from working because of down power lines; if they move trees they could pull on wires and pull down even more power poles.

I hope those are serious answers to your serious questions. These guys are working their asses off. We have cops down from 20 miles away up north who are not even driving home at night, to increase police presence during the recovery; this is surely true of other responders as well.

Officials who slam these guys doing the actual work deserve to have their nuts cut off, or if female, some other gruesome thing, in my opinion.

He may also have been clued that Obama was going to win, and this was his chance to get on the winning team. Wonder if he'll suddenly see how the Democrats are really about true conservative values and that NJ needs to join in bipartisan implementation of Obama's agenda ...

I remember watch a documentary some fifteen years ago about what would happen if a hurricane hit the New York coast. It is rare but I thought who would build a house where the sea can take it away. Islanders do, but they accept the risk. It seems the coastal New Yorkers wanted to be blind to the danger.
