since when did we start naming every storm? winter storm ATHENA? overkill?
i went to see the weather online and i see they are naming this winter storm to hit the east coast "athena"

are they purposefully trying to freak every out?

should we start naming tornadoes,too?

this naming of this storm seems weird to me.

no doubt it is serious because of the hurricane preceding it.

but do they really need to name it ATHENA?

it all depends on one thing

is the name sourced from an original thought of ego or spirit?

can never get enough of the amazing athena

she is so much more than all of the labels attribute to her

a magnificent infinite eternal being of energy and consciousness who does so much for earth and all life connected to her

It is simple, op. When you create something you have a desire to name it. They are actuallly and finally in total control of the weather??

Just a thought.

Re: since when did we start naming every storm? winter storm ATHENA? overkill?
here is actually found the weather channel why they are naming this. as a winter storm has never been named before:

[link to www.weather.com]

Winter Storm Athena: Why We Named It

" The main reason for naming the storm is due to additional post-Sandy impacts."

", I want to reiterate that without Sandy, we may not have named this storm. However, one of our main reasons for naming events is societal impact. With so many people still under recovery efforts -- even well inland -- the combination of heavy, wet snow and wind prompted the decision to name this storm. The decision to name was based on a trend in models toward a colder pattern with additional snowfall along the Northeast Coast."

so it's for ratings. which is gross.
but also i do think it is a ritual thing.

no one needs a name for this damn thing. we all know it's impact.

here was an interesting comment from that page about the graphic:

What I don't understand is why the graphic has the mountains being overturned? Is this a continental crust impact event?

Re: since when did we start naming every storm? winter storm ATHENA? overkill?
Why The Weather Channel is Naming Winter Storms

During the upcoming 2012-13 winter season The Weather Channel will name noteworthy winter storms. Our goal is to better communicate the threat and the timing of the significant impacts that accompany these events. The fact is, a storm with a name is easier to follow, which will mean fewer surprises and more preparation.

when multiple weather systems are about, it helps the public distinguish which one they are talking about.

it isn't uncommon for our continent to have three or four cycones affecting it simultaneously or for one area to be hit by multiple storms in a week or two.

we only name them when they hit cat 1 though.

When blizzard Xerxes comes rolling through this winter I shall stand before it and proclaim "Molen Labe"

I hope to see Geraldo standing on my corner with film crew during one of our typical blizzards with 70mph winds and heavy snow to show the world just how devastating these now named storms are. I will be looking out the window, secure and warm in my home as he plays the fool.

They are out of Western Names. They started using the Greek /Roman Alphabet Today. Go read the Article an exclusive by a well known Meteorologists at Yahoo News. He explains it all and also gives his WINTER forcasts for everybody.

Does everything HAVE to be a conspiracy. Give it a break why don't you already. It is what it is. Whats in a name.
