The economy collapsed because of capitalism, not in spite of it.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17152779

you are completely brainwashed. How do any of Obama's give aways create wealth? Do you realize you are parroting Communist slogans? An education is soon in store for you. You want to see the future? Read Russian history.

I am not anti-capitalist, and in fact neither was Marx. Capitalism is necessary for a while, but it also has the fundamental flaw of inequality that ultimately destroys itself. It cannot work as an economic system forever, that is an indisputable fact. Believe it or not, socialism, when applied smartly, can actually extend the lifespan of capitalism significantly.

None of us are equal. There is no equal outcome possible without equal input of effort. If wealth inequality exists, it isn't the fault of the wealthy, it is the fault of those who were not willing to do the things the wealthy did to become that way. No one is stoping you, but you.

Re: Here's how this election will hurt the economy
I am really shocked to see how many people here are so proud of being losers. Just like the whole Occupy BS. "Look @ me, I'm a loser and it's some successful guy's fault"

If I was dependent on a govt freebie I would be ashamed of myself. If I got more tax return than I paid in I would be insulted. Why do some here think that they are beating the system by contributing nothing to society? They are the real problem with capitalism. They contribute nothing but expect to still have things they want.
 Quoting: TDJ

Why is being dependent on any employer any better than being dependent on the government? I would rather have a society dependent on government than on private business anyday.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17152779

DING, DING, DING - we have the winning attitude right here! Now you know how the loser really thinks. Why have a job, why work for your earnings, why contribute to society as a whole - hell sit on your ass and just be dependent on the government. Your way of thinking makes me sick!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1578696

You have presented a false dichotomy. There is, in fact, a third way, if you read between the lines.

At that point, one is completely independent from another.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26490972

Explain this corruption to me from Obama. Because on GLP knows that the economy crumbling in 2008 until now was a direct cause of President Bush. People who deny that are Republicans or uneducated individuals who are having a hard time coming out of the closet.

Romney would have been no better in helping solve our debt; hell he wanted to ADD MONEY to our military budget that wasn't even asking for it (do people realize we spend more on our military than the next FIFTEEN countries COMBINED?!)

Romney also mentions how he would have created "12 million new jobs" -- guess what? According to data trends and people who study numbers better than anyone on here, and certainly better than Mitt, have said that if we DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FROM THIS POINT FORWARD, that we would create 12 million new jobs anyway.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14541046

Gladly, e-migo.

4 basic problems occurred under Bush to put us in the predicament we are in today:

1) Cutting taxes (Read: Bush Tax Cuts)
2) Spending TWO TRILLION on unwinnable wars we should not have been in in the first place
3) Adding large amounts of entitlement benefits
4) Doubled discretionary spending

Glad to actually teach someone on this forum something; as the majority of them seem to this this was all, 100%, Obama's fault.

Re: Here's how this election will hurt the economy
I own a business, and the four new folks we were planning to hire next year are going to be disappointed. I will also stop my yard service next spring (I like the exercise anyway), and I'm certainly going to discontinue most other needless services.

Finally, I will make it a point to identify retailers of similar mind in my area, and will only purchase my necessities from them from now on - come to think of it, I dont need much of anything except food, and I have a bunch of farmer friends. Looks like I will be getting healthier to boot!

Oh, and I had planned to purchase both a nice new car and a vacation home early next year, but have now decided that my paid for vehicle should last another 150k miles, and I will just continue to rent when we go to the lake.

Here too OP. I've cut about $1800 out of my personal monthly budget and the housemate is doing the same. My business will do much deeper cuts, including some borderline deadwood trimmings. We were planning on hiring in the next six to twelve months...that won't happen now. We do okay without needing to expand, wanted to, but won't now.

And please pay attention to which local businesses you support. Pick the right grocery, dry cleaner, drug store, gas station, and restaurants when you do eat out, etc.

Your a better parent for taken away that Xbox subscription too. Your kid might actually learn to be more productive with his/her time.

That is entirely beside the point. Late-stage capitalism creates such an extreme inequality that it ultimately undermines society to the point that capitalism fails. It destroys itself. As a matter of pragmatism, socialism actually makes capitalism workable for all of society rather than only a few, thereby allowing capitalism to exist for longer than it could otherwise. Personal wealth is of limited value in the absence of social wealth.

I don't have much to cancel but I did just get rid of Netflix after reading these posts. I live for college football and basketball so cable is a must until spring. I have a company watching my credit report for me that's about $90/month, but that's kinda important.

I will definitely find something to quit. Maybe sell the Harley.?.?
 Quoting: TDJ

Not even worth selling right now, I collect cars and bikes. They are dirt cheap right now, got my 2003 mustang with 16k miles for 8 grand. Got my forty-eight sporty NEW from the dealership, list price $10,500, I paid the dealership $8,500 cash counting taxes. Picked up a katana 600 with just 3k miles in mint condition paid $1,200. I’m up to 9 titled vehicles, Buyers market because people are so desperate to sell.
I'm only human, it's my biggest flaw.

We must all realize a sink a chair and a pillow are all luxuries of home and a soldiers helmet takes the place of all three.

So the housing crisis and the repeal of Glass-Steagell had nothing to do with it. GWB's total deficit in 2007 was only 250B, or about 1-1/2 months worth of Obama's expenditure. Bailing out the banks was a result of the housing crisis, which was caused by Congress and the Fed.

I realize that the economy will collapse sooner or later. You can't spend twice as much as you produce. I started taking what little saving I have out of the bank. I got little or no interst on the money anyway. In greece when there were runs on banks, they close the doors and it very diffcult to get your money if every. The FDIC states they will insure your money but they never stated how long it could take to get it. Banks only have a small amount of cash on ahnd relative to deposits.

Yup, it also had a part to play. But that wasn't during the GWB era, that was 1999 if I recall.

And as for the debts each President accumulated here is an interesting statistic:

GWB:
Took office: 5.7 bil total debt
Left office: 10.6 bil total debt
% change: +86%

Obama:
Took office: 10.6 bil total debt
Total debt (as of last year): 14.2 bil total debt
% change: +34%

It's ALWAYS been this way...it's only out in the open in the past decade. Are all you people telling me you didn't already know this??? Not a lot of business people here, I guess. lol.

Yep. Once we move into a new house in 2 months, I'm going to have to explain to my wife and kid why we can't afford to have premium tv channels, why we can't go anywhere, why we'll have shitty Christmas, and so on thanks to libtard family members wondering why we won't visit them much in the future.

Yeah, we're watching and plotting how to cut out things too. But I'm not giving up our internet service yet... how could we stay attached to you guys without it?

Christmas will be handmade this year. We've been working towards that for a few years now. Of course, our kids are grown, so we don't have that stress. The grandkids will get a few small things, and nonna will add some crocheted hats and scarves for the little ones. Opa will make wooden bowls and candle holders. He's getting pretty good at it, and so far still has all 10 fingers attached (although his hands are somewhat scarred). bump

pfft...yeah right. Good luck with that. I totally agree with you...the problem is getting people organized.

Everyone's an expert. Everybody knows everything. And with this, you get 50 million opinions and 50 million different opinions are all "right".

So you can stop paying if you want to. You can even get people who'll say they'll join you. But in the end, you'll probably end up alone, and being arrested for tax evasion.

That is the answer, but only with the entire populace behind you.

Keeping the slaves misinformed is one of the benefits our rulers capitalize on.

Pussy.

Stand up like a real man and tell the government to fuck off.

Tell them you aren't paying any fuckin' taxes to pay for lazy welfare pot smoking bums.

Otherwise shut the fuck up and take your ass pounding like the bitch you are.

Well, jump in the free stuff line while there's free stuff to be had. Wait too long and their will be no capital sources left to pay for all the freebies.
