Colo, Wash, recreational cannabis/pot now legal! how long will it take?
Now that Washington & Colorado have legalized recreational use of cannabis, how long will it take for the rest of the states? 5-10 years? I think this fact alone will speed up other states legalizing it, andthe medical marijuana wil also gt into high gear. Makes no difference to me, it is exciting though, I can live with it or withut it!

Why is it when I post a new message it has my name as anonymous coward? there is no place to add a name?dance

Think of cigarettes. It's legal now to be grown and manufactured and whatnot. not just by your average citizens but also by companies (dispensaries) and such. It's a standard argument that I have a hard time arguing with as a former smoker myself.

The quality will/may drop, the government will be sure of it and tax it much likke cigs (as in... continually raising taxes on it...) and regulation will be more and more red tape.

NOT TO MENTION... just because the states did this... means all of Jack and Shit to the FEDERAL government and the DEA and such who still classify it as an illegal substance regardless of what the states have decided. It's why here in CA they are still raiding dispensaries and shutting down grow ops and what not.

im pretty interested in how the law about weed works in colorado and washington. i mean here in the netherlands its ok for coffeeshops to sell weed. they have to pay big bills to get a permit. thats basicly the tax they pay. but noone is allowed to grow more than 5 plants. and only with natural light. so basicly you got a store selling stuff legal. but there is now legality about how the store actually gets its weed.

im pretty sure that wouldnt fly in the usa

I'm glad Oregon voted no. It would have given the whole industry over to the state. It needs to be legal but remain in the private sector. Besides, we already have some of the best pot laws in the world here, and it really wouldn't have been an improvement.

We were the first state to decriminalize less than an ounce back in 1973, a law that is still on the books. We also have medical marijuana, and cardholders may grow their own or appoint a grower for them. Each grower can have up to 24 plants and 24 ounces per patient.

If you don't have a medical card the police can confiscate it and impose a fine, like a speeding ticket. Much of the time they just look the other way if you aren't causing a disturbance. A medical card isn't hard to get, and there are nearly 60,000 Oregonians with a medical marijuana card. Our total population is around 4.5 million, about the same as Ireland.

I live in Texas too and from what I've come across we have a huge population of bud smokers here. Texas definitely is one of the top consumers of bud in the US, I imagine that it will be legal in the next 3-5 years. I still want to live in Colorado either way, its freaking amazing there.

Seattleite here, I wouldn't touch store bought weed with a ten foot bong. I will acquire it privately. This law makes me wary.

Decriminalization would've been enough.
