I come from a medical family as well (I'm the blacksheep banker of the bunch) and they are all extremely upset and worried about this, there are going to be a lot of unintended (at least you hope they're unintended) consequences to this boondoggle...

Community healthcare clinics are already shutting down.

There is already an extreme shortage of doctors taking medicaid and medicare, this is only going to get worse.

People are now finding out that the insurance plans they've had for years aren't going to meet Obamacare requirements, so they are being shuffled to more expensive policy's...

It's a nightmare...

There's a shortage of doctors, period, and it's just gonna get worse. My dad is a retired surgeon and he's very concerned about how few specialists the medical schools are graduating now. It's not worth it to work your ass off and sink yourself hundreds of thousands in debt...who knows if it'll pay off anymore? Rural areas are getting hit the hardest. I have elderly relatives who have to drive 200 miles to see a specialist when they used to have plenty within 30 miles.
I don't know where you get your delusions, laser brain.

America is about "Look at that beautiful home, I am going to work and have one like that also"
but this attitude of "you should not have anything until I do" or
" I should have a nice home and you should be my servant" has been growing like a cancer.
Why are we tolerating this crap?
And why are we not addressing it for what it is.

Many Doctors that have a practice in TJ, also have their main practice in San Diego. They are well educated receiving their docorate fromt Ivy league schools and doing their residencies at hospitals like Cedar Sinai in LA. The care is excellent, though you have to pay cash.

The meds are 1/8 of the cost you'd pay in the US, due to big pharma jack.

A friend of mine gets her husbands heart meds in TJ (pays $60.00) for a three month supply, in SoCal, the cost is ($500.00) for a 30 day supply).

I know many people that cross the border for excellent medical care and pay cash, having already checked the credentials of the Doctor from their San Diego practice. Though, you cannot sue if you get fucked up.
 Quoting: Scully 23255362

Some people have gone to TJ for treatment and allegedly been ok, others not.

But what anyone has to consider is the extreme violence going on there which is a risk in itself.

We're going to see more and more doctors taking cash only. Can't blame them really. Insurance is a big headache from hell. I'm happy to pay cash for my primary care physician. In and out at $75.00 for great care. No co-pays or hidden costs mandated by my insurance company. It's the best way to go.

The reason we have this level of health care and advanced procedures is because WE PAY, once you spread the wealth the quality of care goes down and R&D slows tremendously, to pay for these free loaders that would't have insurance per say, but could have life saving procedures performed without paying upfront. This may ruin their credit but people now think they are entitled to this with no responsibility, which is crap, own up to your debts instead of having government take care of you.

It's Capitalism, and capitalism is freedom, it's the right to live your life as you see fit, do what you want, choose your own profession, take risks for gain, seize oportunity, it's the system that advanced civlization around the world, IT'S NOT ANTI-AMERICAN...IT IS AMERICA!!!

25 years in the medical field. I am OUT.

What can patients expect?

Expect LONG LINES for EVERYTHING. Once in, you will NOT be able to see a doctor. NPs and PAs will fill the gap. *IF* you're lucky enough to see an MD, he will most likely be a Turd Worlder who doesn't speak English.

If you're over 55 and going into a hospital, you'd better hope it's not serious. If it is, a cost-benefit formula will be applied to your treatment. If you're elderly, there is a very good chance you will be admitted to the hospital and not come out alive. Your family will never know what happened to you because of "medical privacy." That's why HIPAA was passed under the Clintoon administration. Not even your family attorneys can see what's in your chart. That is for a REASON! You will go in and not come out alive.

I hope the fucking US medical shit system goes down in flames. I worked my ass off for 25 years saving money and was then forced to go to a foreign med school after being told by US medical schools that "I lack Diversity". Got an MD degree and passed the USMLE exams. Sorry, this is not your world anymore is what I have been told by the Arab and Hindu doctors that I know( referring to the US Med system). Every residency I went too, I was shown the door and I noticed that every doctor there was a Paki, Indian or Arab. When studying abroad, I constantly heard from docs that I considered to be friends "Your government is Shit and we will get into the US medical system and You will not AND we will fuck your women". They were right and now I'm stuck with minimum wage and a giant student loan I cant pay back. I was hoping captain O would get in to push this socialist agenda to fuck all of the foreign doctors that are flooding into the US system taking all of our residencies.

You're sister soon will be crying again when she realizes that as a specialist with all those extra years of education, Obamacare's going to pay her the SAME as a GP.

Because all doctors will receive the same pay, they'll be no incentive to specialize.

Think about that. Why put all that effort into being a surgeon, anthesiologist or OBGYN?

Re: My sister called me today, she's a doctor.
Listen, I Know everyone is upset about obama, but I agree with this last post, it can't get any worse. Insurance companies dictate our care now. I was born with rare type of cancer in 81. Had kemo and radiation. Have dealt with insurance companies my whole life. When I was 21, was hospitalized a total of 2 months, because the insurance company in NH, would not approve my dr. In boston because it was "out of network". After a series of hospitalizations, they finally agreed to one visit with my Boston dr concerning the issue. I have not spent a day in the hospital since. The bill the insurance company got was over $100,000 for the 2 months in the hospital. Had they approved the 1 visit initially, they would have figured out the problem from the get go, and saved $999,700. I have also had many instances where my doctor would prescribe me a medication due to the numerous issues I have as a result of the treatment I had as a child, and insurance would refuse and say "well, that med is for someone over 80." The way I see it is they are already dictating our care. If I were to make an appointment with my kidney dr. tomorrow (only have 1 kidney due to the radiation I had as a child) would have to schedule 3-4 months out to get an appointment. Can't get much worse than this. By the way, Iam a self employed attorney and pay for a plan with Harvard Pilgrim, not welfare.

I hope they crash, completely.

They have destroyed the pharmaceutical industry in this country. They have banned good drugs (because they are too inexpensive) and are pushing dangerously addictive drugs as replacements, which have a much higher potential of bad side effects, which will cause you to need more drugs, and etc, etc. A never ending cycle just to line their effing pockets.

We need to go back to more natural medicines anyway. But I forgot - big pharma is what made a lot of it illegal to start with.

Re: My sister called me today, she's a doctor.
The problem is not the insurance companies, as much as liberals like to say that. One problem is tort laws that allow lawsuit for ridiculous things. If a doctor has a patient with a pain, and 99% of the time it can be diagnosed with simple procedures, but there is an infinitesimal chance the procedure might miss something, they send them on to the cat scan or MRI to avoid a potentially devastating lawsuit. This often costs the insurance company thousands of dollars. Obama stated early on he was against tort reform, because lawyers contribute heavily to the Dems.

Another problem is the welfare people that check in with "stomach pains" to get a clean bed, color TV with remote, free drugs, and three squares a day. Dozens did this on a regular basis at his hospital in a major city. It costs tax payers tens of thousands every day.

The final problem is that Medicare sets the standards that all doctors have to comply with. My oldest son is in his second year of residency. They are literally working him to death. He was a great kid, Eagle Scout, worked 40 hour weeks while going to college. Graduated college in three years.

In his first year of residency he saw the truth. In his internal medicine rotation he could see one patient every 30 minutes. 7-8 minutes seeing the patient, 20 minutes filling out redundant forms, required everywhere because of Medicare standards. He has 200,000 of med school debt, and now his future is being stripped from him by obamacare.

I highly advise potential premeds to think twice about going to med school. Mountains of debt, delayed income, then a mountain of government regulations, now obamacare.

I don't write this for the hard headed liberals on here. I write this for the real people who live in the real world, that really want to understand the problems.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26085824

No liberal tried to refute my post, so I'll bump it. Maybe at least one of them is open minded enough to learn something from some who has actually heard first hand what is going on.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26085824

Still no liberal snide comments on this truth. It's my family's truth and I despise liberals for wrecking my son's future.

Potential pre-meds. DO NOT GO INTO MEDICINE. My son would not make the same choice again if he had the chance. He made 99% on the STEP 1 exam. And now his life is miserable. Do not let these f'g liberals ruin your life. Choose a different path. Do not be suckered in.

It will be funny when all the libtards realize that by law they have to buy health insurance and if they don't pay up they are fined a minimum 695$ or 2.5% of their income whatever is higher. Then they are going to realize that their taxes are going way up in January and that medicare is getting robbed and many hospitals cannot afford and will not accept new medicare patients.

These are just a few things that the libtards voted for. We'll they got them and they have no one else to blame except themselves. Most of the libtards have no clue what they voted for, they are in for a very rude awakening.

Do you really have to pay cash to get fixed in the hospital in America.

What if you are severly injured or dying and you dont have enough money to pay them, what happens, or do you have to pay first.

In America if you go to the doctor for a headache you are looking at a $500 trip. First they have to bring in a phlebotomist to draw blood and determine if your liver can handle the toxic effects of Tylenol. Then they bring in a Registered nurse to take your vitals, height, weight, eye color, blood pressure.

You then get to see a doctor that prescribes you a $50 dollar Tylenol pill and schedules you a follow up visit.

$500 total.

You will be happy to know though, that on the follow up visit the doctor will happily push statins on you, so long as you get blood drawn every other month...
$500
$500
$500
$500
$500
... (till you fucking die)

It's fucking retarded. I'm actually banned from a local doctors office for refusing to play this game. Since he cannot extract money from me, he refuses to treat me for typical shit you see a doctor for, like the flu or rash or whatever...

If you are going to die on the spot, hospitals are required by law to try and save you, the $100,000 bill comes later, and is typically never paid, especially if your name is Jose.

Nothing will change, except the amount of money extracted from the American people will increase, while the quality of services decreases.

I call total BS on your crap story

I'm not a doctor, but I have quite a few friends who attended medical school, and after nearly $400,000 of expenses, tuition, startup costs to begin a practice, for them to earn what you want to pay them is a travesty

You guys sound EXACTLY like the idiot Russian marxists in 1917, who similarly fixated on doctors and their pay

Those braintrusts decided to pay doctors the same as tractor drivers, to make it clear that they didn't value their high falutin education, and to break their spirits a bit

Great..so for about 5 years tractor drivers felt superior to doctors and doctors were ground down in salary and prestige

Guess what happened...over time the doctors who were trained under the Tsar either fled the country or died out, and fewer and fewer people wanted to become doctors because it simply wasn't worth the trouble and long hours...never mind the lack of pay

end result: chronic shortage of doctors

You petty envrious small minded retards want to insist that doctors go into a highly demanding profession which requires intelligence skill and discipline...and you want them to almost donate their time like they're saints

Meanwhile, you see nothing wrong with a Rap star making millions or a sports thug earning tens of millions and going into it for the money

THEN, when he got an insurance settlement from the accident (he's pretty much vegetative for life) he had to pay his insurance carrier back the $350,000 his critical care had cost. That was in Florida and may differ by state.

Also, the lawyers in forida can only make a certain percentage after the first million. Here's an additional tidbit, the injured guy's family contacted an attorney friend, she referred them to attorneys in the state the accident occurred. Turns out their "friend" made several hundred thousand dollars just for giving the family a contact phone number, several hundred thousand!!!!!!. Whats wrong with this picture?
