She's probably crying because she won't make as much money. Boo boo.

I'm sorry, but the cost for healthcare in this country is INSANELY to expensive. There is absolutely no justification for the extreme costs for healthcare and pharmaceudicals.

Every single one of you know this as well...!!!!

All of you...!!!!

So we should hand over control to Big Pharma (which controls a lot of our govt)

Re: My sister called me today, she's a doctor.
My sister is a doctor (OB), she called me today and said she had been crying since last night. She is beside herself. Now that the final nail has been driven into the US medical industry it's hit her hard.
Main issue for doctors is that they are being mandated too and regulated like never before. Most of Obamacare focuses on regulations, not the patient. That's what most people don't get. It's all about reporting back to the government. They will be determining your treatments and watching every facet of your "care".
This is scary. Take some time and dissect the bill. It's a whopper, makes our tax code look like 1st grade reading.
 Quoting: N3m3s1s

Well ... she always has the option of switching jobs and doing something else (like those in the rest of society have to do a couple of times in our lifetimes)

Maybe she could become a management trainee for Krogers or Wal-Mart. They pay well. If you become an assistant store manager (at about 70 hours of work a week) you can make $40,000 to $60,000/year. Store managers "can" make $80,000 to $100,000/yr, but to do that you basically have to live in the store.

She has options. She doesn't have to remain in the health care field if it is that bad a situation for her.

Re: My sister called me today, she's a doctor.
I have a doctor who is a doctor who isn't my sister. He anticipates no change in the current (albiet shitty) healthcare system. However, I went to the ER with a kidney stone roughly six months ago and in the pre-screening/triage process I was asked if I had ever had any thoughts of harming myself or others. No of course was my answer and the Dr. said they had to ask this all the time now as protocol. 5 minutes later I was administered a monster shot of dilaudid, sat in the ER for about 4 hours not givin a fuck, got another monster D shortly thereafeter and then was admitted. At the tim I thought maybe they were just screening me for mental instability or drug abuse before they gave me the D. But in retrospect I'm not so sure.

So in another somewhat related incident sown the road I was at a rheumatologist because I have been having hip pain that is getting pretty nasty. He asks me the routine blah blah about the nature of the pain etc. Then he asks if I feel depressed. I say hey suffering through pain 24/7 can have a way of sucking the joy out of your life, but I'm dealing OK. So suddendly he's typing his fingers bloody on his laptop and I say what the fuck is that about. Well we have to keep a record of people who suffer from depression he say. Doing my best to keep my composure I say who the fuck ever said anything about any sort of clinical depression? I said being in pain sucks, thats all. Well he said as he closed his laptop we are required to document all patients who suffer from depression. I grabbed my jacket and split and will never go back but I suppose that is now on my 'permanent record' But hell they can go fuck themselves.

For the sake of full disclosure I really do feel that something needs to be done about the current state of healthcare in the US. As it is the people who pay for insurance also pay for all the people who don't have insurance. Obviously that can't go on forever because in the end nobody will be able to afford insurance.

But yea, I feel I have some pretty good first hand knowledge that there is some hocusfuckingpocus going on with the new Gov HC that wasn't going on prior.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26997426

So, per your examples, it appears they are - for some reason - focusing on the aspect of depression and mental/emotional issues . . . but WHY? To generate a nationwide database of people they identify as having some form of mental or emotional disorders? Again, why - to what purpose?

I was talking to a friend who said that she's been to three different doctors . . . she asked questions and to one, she said that part of the exam was causing her some pain - each doctor documented in her file that she was being "non-compliant" . . . WTH?!!!?!

Re: My sister called me today, she's a doctor.
Do you really have to pay cash to get fixed in the hospital in America.

What if you are severly injured or dying and you dont have enough money to pay them, what happens, or do you have to pay first.

I'm keen to understand how the system works now, and what affect this new system will have, could someone explain for me please.
 Quoting: Doommincus Maximus

You got it! No cash, no health insurance, sorry, we'll give you treatment but the bills will roll in and just a few days in the hospital with severe injuries can rack up more than some folks make in a year.

America has a barbaric profit driven system - docs are poo poo'ing and boo hoo'ing cause the gravy train is going to be less. Instead of a Bentley they'll have to settle for a mere Mercedes - OH NOZ!

What docs should be doing is demanding Universal Health Care for ALL Americans regardless of financial status, like most civilized countries have.

More so they should be working towards the government subsidizing medical school - they graduate with $100,000 to $250,000 or more in student debt, that's why they are so anxious to make big bucks. If the government made medical school affordable there would be so many more doctors.

Anywho, the OP is full of beans. Her sis is just worried her standard of living will be reduced to the likes of us widdle people.

As for the law - it didn't go far enough, we knew we were a ways from Universal care, but we at least wanted a public option. I'll accept it for now. In 2014 I will finally be able to get insurance that's affordable. With my low income and preexisting condition, I can get full coverage for around $150 per month. That I can afford.

Re: My sister called me today, she's a doctor.
look up the history in Canada. When they made a switch from private to gov. run all the docs went on protest, and it was a big problem in the rural areas where doctors left their patients sick and refused to treat them ... why? because they were protesting a lower income ... it turned out that more than half of the doctors in the country prefer better income as compared to a system where more people can afford/use/depend on their basic right to health care. Canada was hiring yankee doctors during this Canadian doctors protest.

sorry AC, you are just another democrat obama shill, and you NEVER had the option of going to medical school, nor did you go to Wall Street

I call total BS on your crap story

I'm not a doctor, but I have quite a few friends who attended medical school, and after nearly $400,000 of expenses, tuition, startup costs to begin a practice, for them to earn what you want to pay them is a travesty

You guys sound EXACTLY like the idiot Russian marxists in 1917, who similarly fixated on doctors and their pay

Those braintrusts decided to pay doctors the same as tractor drivers, to make it clear that they didn't value their high falutin education, and to break their spirits a bit

Great..so for about 5 years tractor drivers felt superior to doctors and doctors were ground down in salary and prestige

Guess what happened...over time the doctors who were trained under the Tsar either fled the country or died out, and fewer and fewer people wanted to become doctors because it simply wasn't worth the trouble and long hours...never mind the lack of pay

end result: chronic shortage of doctors

You petty envrious small minded retards want to insist that doctors go into a highly demanding profession which requires intelligence skill and discipline...and you want them to almost donate their time like they're saints

Meanwhile, you see nothing wrong with a Rap star making millions or a sports thug earning tens of millions and going into it for the money

fuck you AC: go eat a dick

I must have struck a nerve, you sound like a fine fellow with a chip on his shoulder. I sense that from the anger you give off. Perhaps you were one of the many that were unable to have such an option put forth by your anger and projection onto me. You not could be further from the truth with your judgement of me, but that is a moot point given it is impossible to prove or disprove in an anon forum such as this.

I did in fact attend law school before making my way to into hedge fund world. I exited my schooling with close to the same amount of debt as your supposed friends only to work for close to nothing for three years while paying my dues, I made my wager on my future coupled with delayed gratification. So in fact I do know the feeling of having significant debt and agree it can be a deterrent in one choosing a profession. When one seeks higher education they are making a wager on their future, this does not guarantee they will become rich although most of these jobs offer the incentive of excellent pay.

You assume I meant to pay these doctors an improper wage, what I am putting forth is that they should be paid a fair wage but a wage not so significant to attract people for the incorrect reason. These incorrect reasons are solely for money, instead of the doctors that become doctors for the proper reasons you are attracting talent that really does not have a true interest in the subject matter to begin. Although these potential doctors might have sufficient grades and intelligence their mind is not there. The abuse of insurance companies, incorrect billing practices, and the over prescription of drugs have become more and more evident in the past decade.

This type of abuse has occurred in other high paying professions such as Law and Finance. We saw rampant abuse in the 90's and 00's in finance which stems from the best and brightest pool looking back at the highest paying jobs for the largest pool to be in finance and law at the time. There was reform in both but it needs to be further refined.

Now I propose there needs to be a trade off. Doctors need to be protected from frivolous law suits lowering their insurance which will allow them to need a smaller gross to obtain a similar income as prior. Although given the free market we are all making less even the truck drivers you so seem to hate with the current cost of gas. Once again you really need to look into what groups of doctors are up in arms. Many are worried, there is cause to have fear to change, although it is the ones that own the medical groups that are taking a major portion of these young doctors pay that are most upset. They know that in order to keep the adequate talent flowing there is a desired level of pay which they might actually have to take less of a percentage to keep that talent there.

It seems to me you assume one deserves insane wages although in essence they are not taking a major risk. They are putting time in for a craft that provides a long an well paid career with excellent job security and little risk of ever being put out of work. That along with it being a persons passion and interest should be more than enough to attract the proper talent. Anything more will bring nothing but abuse. I know that for a fact, I hated law as did a few of my compatriots in law school, the ones that hated it went on to abuse the profession those that loved it prospered. Thankfully I knew better and went into finance than to actually practice the profession.

Good luck and try to keep the negative energy at a minimum, is it no good for your health.

I would really love to start looking at this type of thinking more critically,
I think it is at the root of most of our problems.
America is about "Look at that beautiful home, I am going to work and have one like that also"
but this attitude of "you should not have anything until I do" or
" I should have a nice home and you should be my servant" has been growing like a cancer.
Why are we tolerating this crap?
And why are we not addressing it for what it is.

These people risk years of their lives to go to school, they work long hours and get paid shit for being an intern, they rack up hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. It's called making an investment in your future, it's called taking a risk and hoping for a return.

It's Capitalism, and capitalism is freedom, it's the right to live your life as you see fit, do what you want, choose your own profession, take risks for gain, seize oportunity, it's the system that advanced civlization around the world, IT'S NOT ANTI-AMERICAN...IT IS AMERICA!!!

Main issue for doctors is that they are being mandated too and regulated like never before. Most of Obamacare focuses on regulations, not the patient. That's what most people don't get. It's all about reporting back to the government. They will be determining your treatments and watching every facet of your "care".

We're going to see more and more doctors taking cash only. Can't blame them really. Insurance is a big headache from hell. I'm happy to pay cash for my primary care physician. In and out at $75.00 for great care. No co-pays or hidden costs mandated by my insurance company. It's the best way to go.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19490298

Same here. We have "catastrophic" coverage, but mostly pay cash. Last year my hubby and I both had bronchitis, and our primary care physician saw both of us for the price of one, $80 cash. Cash is instant, no paperwork for them, no fighting insurance to get their pay, no guessing as to how much the insurance company will refuse to pay, no waiting months for payment. No wonder we always get a better rate when we pay cash.

It's called Competition. The public, or patients at large benefit from it in the long run.

Re: My sister called me today, she's a doctor.
I would wager a bet that at some time during the next four (4) years, there will be a lot of doctors that start making house calls again for the following reasons.

> No paperwork record of an appointment that the Feds can track.

> Pay the Doc with cash or barter (No credit card or check tracking for D.C., er, I mean Kremlin to see).

There's a huge difference between pushing for profit under Capitalism vs. pushing for control of the populace under government thugs.

So pushing for rights of the patient is wrong ?, Holding the Hospitals and doctors accountable is wrong ?, they have hidden behind their HMOs and Insurance companys for years making millions of your healthcare. How can you have the patient in mind when all the Hospital your working for is concerned about is profit margins.

Added bonus: People would only see a doctor when they really need it. No hypochondriacs burdening the system. I know a lot of mothers who take their kids for every sniffle; since they are on Medicaid it's "free."
