My Musings on a Bleak albeit Historic Day

A new chapter in United States history has been confirmed by the majority will. Obama won reelection, defeating Mitt Romney decisively in the Electoral College, and his victory stamps the United States as a "Post-Christian" nation. Obama was reelected by overwhelming majorities of gays, pro-abortion men and women, and anti-Christian Americans.

The truly shocking political reality is that Republicans could not defeat a sitting incumbent who had presided over the worst economy in 70 years, saddled with catastrophically high unemployment, and a weak foreign policy. If the GOP cannot defeat a president under these circumstances, how can they hope to win the Presidency when times and conditions improve?

Romney soon would have probably disappointed Conservatives / Christians had he been elected. Romney, during the time he was governor of Massachusetts, established himself firmly as a liberal, Rockefeller Republican. His policies were pro-gay and pro-choice. He started "moving toward the center" only as he shifted into high gear for the 2012 election campaign.

Distressingly, we would likely have seen Romney repeat the G.W. Bush disappointment when Bush refused to reverse any of Bill Clinton's policies when he came into office. Remember this? Bush was so pro-gay that, in 2002, Concerned Women of America issued the alert that Bush's gay policies were identical to Clinton's policies.

Here's the reality: The country that we grew up in no longer exists. Requiescat in Pace (Rest in Peace).

My thoughts…

The musings of this retired KSU History Professor have certainly had a sobering and saddening effect on me. It is very hard for me to believe that the election turned out as it did. On the eve of the election I felt quite confident that the good people of America,,, the truly patriotic, freedom-loving, morally-sound Americans would turn out en masse to let their voices be heard so that the travesty that we have endured for the past four years could finally be brought to an end. My confidence was further bolstered when witnessing the great voter turnout at my local polling precinct.

Fully expecting to witness a resounding Romney victory as I watched the election results, I found myself slowly slipping into a sense of disbelief at what I was seeing. To say the least, when it was finally announced that Romney had lost the election a great sense of sadness came over me,,, but that sense was not as strong as that which has come over me after reading the professor's words.

From a national perspective, it is apparently true that the "country that we grew up in no longer exists." But I don't think the "American spirit" that we hold so dear no longer exists as I'm sure,,, no, I KNOW that it still exists in the hearts and minds of many, many Americans scattered across our land. Perhaps the best that we can hope for now is to align ourselves with those like-minded individuals and share with each other the goodness that is in our hearts,,, and, perhaps, find some peace, joy, and contentment in the process.

The age-old battle of good vs. evil is still being waged, and at this point, it certainly appears that evil now has the upper hand. The question remains,,, What will the future hold?
